True Crime Story: Indefensible (2021)
Good production value. Could be good but writers and host are terrible
The host starts off the first episode saying and then he stopped poking her. Trying to get a laugh within the first minute of a true crime series is not what anyone wants. The fact that they even thought that was funny and put that in says a lot.
The host is terrible. I mean terrible. The trying to be cool act she puts on his ridiculous. Being rude to guests during interviews is off putting. The lisp doesn't help.
This could be really good. With the production value it seems like they have some money behind it and the visuals are good except for the host. Whoever the writer is that decided on some of the way the show steers is awful. Aesthetically it's good looking and the stories seem really interesting however the way that they're presenting it is not good.
What Happened, Brittany Murphy? (2021)
Stop using random YouTubers in documentaries!!!
This documentary has some high end contributors. Amy heckerling, Kathy najimy, reporters from people but THEN they use random YouTubers . Also these are the most awkward people that they use. Ones that no one would take seriously if they walked up next to them and started talking yet they give them credibility by putting them in a documentary. Why would these people's opinions matter. WHY?? Hbo documentaries have been on a downward spiral for years but this is bad. Awful.
The Ripper (2020)
Lacks direction. Good archival footage....that's it.
Poor documentary. Is this about the victims..no. Is this about the ripper...no. Is it about the lack of resources for police in the 70's...no. Is it about the UK in the 70s..no. Changing times..no.
Complete lack of direction. Way too political and this is coming from a very independent woman. Way too much speculation and man hating. Ruins a fascinating story due to grudges and getting lost in tedium.
The Vow (2020)
9 EPISODES! total disaster.
This is so tedious. Ridiculously drawn out. Watch if you like narcissists discussing how they were drawn into an organization due to them being needy and not getting enough attention from their chose professions and people around them. Give them what they want more attention. This documentary is truly awful. Disorganized. unsympathetic and uninteresting people who I could not care less about after hearing their "story". The fact this is so long and drawn out shows how important mark thinks he is. He might have left the org by still a full narcissist.
Paranoid (2016)
Terrible.
I love itv, bbc ch 4 british procedurals. This starts off with a lot of promise, good production value but....it's goes off the rails by episode 3. Ridiculous dialogue. I can't count how many times Nina says "well didn't expect that" or some variation of. She's a police officer who is a moron. Full of stereotypes and cliches. The Germans are weird and awkward. The American is an idiot junkie. It's just bad. Looks good but terrible after scratching the surface. Kevin Doyle and Leslie sharp are great as always with what they have to work with. pass. Go see marcella, luther or river. Also all the people talking about netflix...a lot their "originals" are just bought not made by netflix. They buy the steaming rights for the US and don't have anything to do with production. That goes for all the ones suggested above.
