Run Hide Fight (2020)
The movie is ok. Most of the reviews here are fake. That's annoying.
The movie is ok. The lead actress did a good job, Some of the lines are good. Some of the plot is clunky and poor.
Quite offended by the no. Of "10/10. Edge of my seat. Don't miss this" reviews. They are too similar to each other and don't ring true at all.
Doomsday Gun (1994)
Another good tv movie
Another good example of how a tv movie can, perhaps within bland and low-cost production values, be more interesting and truthful than the standard Hollywood film.
Another respondent has described how well the film captures the creative moment within engineering, and that's all true. I think Langella's performance was also an excellent representation of a buccaneering businessman, drawing about him intelligent people he trusts and inspiring them, although occasionally haranguing them.
Good scenes .. Gerald Bull dining on the grave of a famous German artilleryman. The Israeli spy chief walking morosely around the Baghdad arms fair looking at all the hardware he would one day have to face. The nods and winks of the British establishment as they turn a blind eye to the production of Saddam's supergun.
Yes it clunks here and there. But fine acting and a literate script. More absorbing than most films which cost 10 times as much.
Seven out of ten.
In the Line of Duty: The F.B.I. Murders (1988)
Excellent, chilling movie
I first saw this TV movies years ago, and was as intrigued as everybody else by the casting of David Soul and Michael Gross.
Although I haven't seen it for some years, and didn't know the name, I felt compelled to hunt it down on IMDB to make a comment. As well as being outstanding in the action sequences, particularly the ultimate shootout, it was particularly notable for portraying the wrongdoers as unsentimental killers. These murders live with one years after having seen the movie. The makers achieve this not by lingering over the badness of the villains, but by showing them dispatching their victims lightly, unhesitatingly.
Good, skillful movie.
Runaway Car (1997)
In praise of tv movies
Yes it's a badly-made movie. The acting and script are poor, and it has got the worst continuity error I've ever witnessed - watch the car hood. The black character is from some lousy Starsky episode. I first saw the movie on tv late-night. I wanted to get to bed but ended up watching it all the way through. When I saw it again I taped it and showed it to my 8-year old daughter. She came out of the room shaking and crying as a result of the baby-jeopardy-helicopter moment. (The only movie moment I can ever remember producing this effect in her). The damn thing's enjoyable. I find this with other "bad" movies. Somehow, the effect of knowing it's cheap and has no big stars can lead to a more relaxed honest enjoyment. As someone else said, watch it with a few cans.
Top Gun (1986)
80s films. Should they be destroyed?
What was wrong with the eighties?
Shoulder pads. Dynasty. Wham. Duran Duran.
And the movies! First Blood 2. Rocky 3. Desperate Seeking Susan. And Top Gun. God! Teeth, hair smiles, Cruise, "You've Lost that Loving Feeling". People sitting in a studio in front of a lot of red and green screens pretending they're directing a battle. The awful love interest. That thwacking drum beat in the theme song. The dull two-second clips of film of two planes only appearing close to each other because of the telephoto. The "combat" dialogue where everything's said twice "He's on your tail! On your tail!".
Look at the list of "best ever" films on IMDB's, or anyone else's list. Only Scorcese was consistently excellent in the period. The eighties were a black hole. Style-conscious but clueless, Top Gun is typical of its era.
