Great Expectations (1998)
Fantastic
It's always difficult to make a film stand up to a classic book and I'm glad this film didn't even attempt to do so. The setting was all it's own and really transported me into the multiple worlds of the story. The acting was fantastic, how could it not be with Chris Cooper involved. If one is in need of some escapism, then this movie is the perfect medicine.
No Postage Necessary (2017)
Interesting film
I wasn't quite sure what this film was about in the beginning, but it really settled into a surprisingly nice ride. The characters felt real and reminded me that we all have our own issues to deal with and nobody is beyond redemption. My one complaint is there seems to be a bit of confusion with multiple genres in one story but perhaps that's because its dealing with new technologies that are hard to understand, at least for me. Nevertheless, I loved the music, the romance was more realistic than your typical Hollywood movie, and I left feeling positive.
Lady Bird (2017)
A Great Indie Story
I always appreciate independent film and admire when it is done so well. Everything about this film was spot on - the story, the acting, the beats, the nostalgia. When a film can transport me into the world of its story and I can feel what's it's like to live there, to ask questions, to lock into the relationships, then that film has attained mastery from my perspective. Great film, enough said!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
It's Holiday, it's meant o be fun!
I watched this again last night and love the story and this film's telling of it. My only complaint is the world of the film sometimes seems a bit closed in. Otherwise, the performances and the score really stand out. And it puts me in that holiday spirit, which was the original intent of this film.
Les Misérables (2012)
Love this movie!
So Les Mis was the first play I ever saw on Broadway and I instantly fell in love with the story and the music. It even inspired me to read the book. Although I'd give the play a perfect 10, this movie isn't far behind. Great performances by Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway provide the emotional heart-tugging moments of the original play. Highly recommend if you want to watch great storytelling.
