Damsel (2024)
An entertainer
When I watch a movie, I watch it for fun. When I rate a movie, I only consider how much it was capable of gluing me to the seat.
I am not a movie critic. And I do not pretend to be one. All those reviewers giving low ratings to this movie must be very intelligent, have great knowledge about movie making, and so on. I am stupid enough to understand their arguments.
Millie Bobby Brown has done a good job, in my opinion. This was a fantasy movie, and I guess fantasy does not require any logic to justify. That is why it is fantasy. All actors, as for me, have done their jobs decently. The camera work was good. We got to see breathtaking locations, and I personally loved that. The film was not slow, the story was sufficient to establish a fantasy world. I think it was a job well done.
I liked the villain-turned-hero kind of sentiment, I am a big fan of Disney animation movies, and I like the moral-oriented storylines. I understand when things come to the protection of children, situations can go haywire. So, the hero's perspective was good, and so was the villain's perspective.
Watch the movie. Definitely recommend it. Do not look into the poor reviews. Every good endeavor would face criticism.
Peppermint (2018)
Expectations unfulfilled
I am a big fan of action movies and I waited a lot for this flick to come, specially after I watched the trailer. Honestly speaking, the trailer was better than the movie.
For the first 45 minutes through the movie, I was worrying probably I will end up moving away from watching till the end. The first half had nothing of "Action" and it seemed like a pure Drama, and a good Drama. I do not like Dramas personally, but for it's goodness I rated it 5 stars. the additional one star is for the final action scene that was somewhat good, predictable but okay, no harm watching something I've seen several times in many movies before.
I still wonder how she killed the the real killers of her family, no one knows how, we find them dead real soon. And in the opening scene of the movie, I do not know why she killed that man, what he did, no backdrop on that. She managed to find out all hideouts and whereabouts of all her enemies, nobody knows how without having an ally.
It was a charm watching the Feds working happily with the local PD. The police looked more active than the Feds. Wow. The filmmakers did a great job glorifying the bad cop and maligning the good one to build up the climax. They actually tried too hard just to manage making the story more predictable and ruin the suspense.
Jennifer Garner did a good job as we can expect from her. The rest of them are like passersby. The main villain seemed like a street thug, who added the genre "Tragedy" to the movie.
Finally, my suggestion to all movie lovers is to watch this movie, cause its entertaining. But, to typical action movie lovers, I must say no, don't watch, cause there is neither pepper nor mint for you.

A good one time watch
I did not understand why the rating is 4.2. I won't say this is a great movie but I found it entertaining, and time well spent. I expected a better and more thrilling end though. The escape plan of the bank robbers did not look like a plan. The storyline is also more or less predictable. But still I liked it for the way it was presented. I liked the characters too. I recommend watching the movie.
The Condemned (2007)
Confused between good and bad
In spite so many negative reviews, I watched the movie. I am glad I did, cause till end, I had a good time.
First with the good things. I have seen "Tournament", "Death Race", Hunger Games" etc. before and I kind of like these movies. When I started watching this, I did not expect much. But I was surprised to find out that the movie had elements, that were quite entertaining. The story was good enough. The performances of actors were more than what was expected. The cinematography was good. The speed was satisfactory. Lastly the direction was great, and I would love to see a few more from Scott Wiper.
But there were a few loose ends too. The story line had great opportunities for Breckel, our villain no. 1, but I feel he could not be as cool as there was scope. And then, if he was so choosy about his contestants as we could see at the beginning of the film, what made him select Paco and his wife and Yasantwa? I don't know. Also near the climax, Jack died on camera, but came back off camera. Then how come his wife seemed expecting him when he returned at the last scene? Also I feel her character did not deserve that much of screen space. Lastly, during the fight scenes, I did not understand why there were so many cuts, why the camera shook so much with so many close shots.
Zashchitniki (2017)
NO WAY this should get anything less than 5
Yes, the ending was gross, abrupt and poorly crafted. I expected a better boss fight. And how did they figure out how to combine their powers and how was it going to work? That also in few seconds!!! And one simple question. If you were so desperate to fell the hanging antenna, why not appointing our swordsman to cut the cables with his pair of enormous blades? If these parts were up to my level of expectation, my rating could have been easily 7/10 or better.
The rest was fine. I watch movies for fun, not to find flaws in them. And I believe "The Guardians" team has done excellent job. In the beginning they were in a little hurry to get into the plot, but later that was fixed. I wont complain about the acting. I have seen the acting skills of many great action heroes. The powers of the heroes seemed to be loosely copied from some previously known ones, but still they managed to establish their own styles. The CGI was pretty convincing. The script never seemed to loose focus. So, I found this movie worth watching.
No, I don't think I will watch this movie another time, but rating below 5 seems to be a bit biased. I recommend watching this at least once, for FUN.
