Take your family, friends and everyone you know to see this right now!
If you go to this movie expecting some totally original new concept you'll be disappointed, however if you realize that the "original" thing is pretty hard to do now a-days without getting really out there and want to see a good plot done really well then you'll be in for a treat. It is visually spectacular (must see it in IMAX 3D!!) and blasts through nearly 3hrs with ease. I was in awe all the way through and when I left the theater I was on the phone with my bro telling him he had to see it asap. It's funny, I bought my ticket online and was miffed that it cost damn near $15, thought "this better be worth it!" By the end I immediately decided to take my kids next week and will gladly pay for all three of us :)
I loved this flick, it's in my top 5 for sure.
Bored Silly (2000)
You can see this film daily at a Furniture Row near you!!
This awful movie is the bane of many a Furniture Row employees life. That is because this is the only authorized film to show at the kiddie areas. The funny thing about it is this was partly funded by the owner of Furniture Row, Barney Visser who also got his grandson a 'bit-part' (see Ice cream kid or something like that in credits).
I have probably seen this movie over 300 times (bits and pieces at a time) and therefore may be a bit hateful in my critique. Best watch it for yourself and decide... at your local Furniture Row, the only place you can get it I would guess.
Only one condition, you need to tell the salesperson that approaches you that you are there to watch the movie, not to buy furniture. Otherwise the poor sap will be stuck lingering within 20 feet of you and missing actual sales opportunities.
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Great beginning to an outstanding series
So I had heard of this remake of the 1978 original series, mostly from commercials for it on TV, and had little to no interest in seeing it. I had seen a few of the original episodes and found them to be rather lame and uninteresting. Then one night when I could find nothing on I ended up watching an episode of the new series on Sci Fi and found it to be a bit confusing but enjoyable none-the-less. With my interest piqued I rented the mini-series the next time I was at the video store and I watched the whole 3+ hours that night.
I have to say that this is a really well put together story and while it's obviously not original (being a remake) it is something new and fresh in the world of sci-fi.
I am a fan of the sci-fi/fantasy genre and I have to say this mini-series along with the first two seasons of the show (I've seen em all in the month since I watched the mini) are on the top of my favorites list. This show looks and feels like a theatrical release sci-fi movie.
The Village (2004)
Really well put together story
I thought The Village was a very good movie but the marketing for the film had me expecting a different movie than I got. As a previous poster noted, the producers of this movie were way off with their "thriller" movie claim. I didn't find the movie to be thrilling so much as intriguing. Suspenseful at times and hair raising at others The Village left me feeling just fine about the 20 bucks spent at the theater and that is something that seems to happen less and less often these days.
Joaquim Phoenix and Adrian Brody were both very good in their roles as was Ms. Howard but the star of this film is Shyamalan's fantastic ability to tell a story on the big screen. Overall I rated it 8/10.
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Read the book, skip the movie
OK so I bought the book at Barnes & Noble for a buck because well, it was a buck. I did a little online research about it and found that a lot of people liked the book and pretty much everyone hated the movie so I decided to go into the reading of the book with an open mind.
I'm so glad I did! The book is awesome! It's a damn good read and I would and have recommended to my friends. So then I decided today that maybe the movie isn't as bad as everyone says, especially for someone who's read the book... uh wrong. The movie strays so far off from the book that it's at times unrecognizable as the same story. The scenes look like they were set up by a high school student that is studying to be in film and the acting is well, atrocious.
My advice is read the book and enjoy. Don't waste your time on the movie.
Tears of the Sun (2003)
Did I see the same movie as the rest of you people?
I thought that this movie kicked ass! (I can say ass cause they say it on TV) Tho it was not of the same caliber as Black Hawk Down it was better than that long winded The Thin Red Line, which by the way I own and have tried to watch a handful of times and have never been able to get all the way through.
Bruce Willis is one of those actors that people love to hate and there is no reason why. He has been in some great movies - Sixth Sense, The Fifth Element and Unbreakable to name a few - and some bad ones - Color of Night and maybe the Jackal - but for the most part his movies rock and Tears of the Sun is one of his best.
Escape from L.A. (1996)
Worst movie I've ever seen
I really thought this movie was horrid. I went and saw it in the theater (it was the only movie playing at the time we got there) and if it hadn't been for the fact that I was with other people I would have gotten up and left well before the end. The cheesy scenes and pitiful acting made me wince and I felt like I had somehow come out of the experience dumber than when I went in.
