Instinct (1999)
Much Better Than a Rating of 6
I was surprised to see this movie was ranked so low on the IMDb. I know this is not a great film but it certainly wasn't a bad one. For the most part it's gotten mixed reviews- some loved it, others hated it. I myself thought the film was very good- the story was a good one, the acting was great especially by Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding Jr. As someone noted the film is very similar to One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest which is one of the greatest films ever made. Both incorporate the same ideas and have similar characters. Both center around a main character who is seen as crazy but really isn't and is abused by an institution that doesn't understand him and what he believes in. If you like movies with strong meanings and good acting I would highly recommend this film.
Dances with Wolves (1990)
Incredible
"Dances with Wolves" is without question one of the greatest films ever made, it is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. The acting is terrific (especially Costner), the story is brilliant, the effects are great (the buffalo sequence), and the films meaning is incredibly powerful. Many people look at this film and say that it's boring or it's too long, these people don't understand the meaning of this movie or anything about great film making for that matter. I was shocked when I saw this film was not in the IMDb top 250. It should be in the top 20. The film was a power at the Oscars winning 7 awards from 11 nominations and deserved everyone. Costner probably should have won the best actor award as well but oh well. If you like historical films, epics, or just great movies I strongly recommend.
Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1983)
Terrible
Alright I am a huge fan of horror movies, especially slashers from the 80's. Having said that that this is extremely low budget, cheapness at it's worst. Originally made in 1983 it was dumped and later picked up in 1986. The film itself follows a similar storyline: victims in a secluded area stalked by a killer, this time an elderly deranged woman. As for the movie it is pretty bad even for a slasher and doesn't offer much in terms of entertainment. The story is sluggish and boring, the acting is hammy, and there isn't much killing and hardly any blood or gore. If you have an hour and a half to kill, take a walk and skip this movie.
Disorganized Crime (1989)
Hilarious
I first saw this movie on cable about 5 years ago and I could not stop laughing. Everything about this movie seemed to click, the storyline, the characters, the setting. As far as film is concerned I wouldn't call this a great movie but for what it is supposed to be it is fantastic. It gets it's meaning across. The cast is maybe as good as any ever put together in a comedy movie. Corben Berbson, Fred Gwynne, Ruben Blades, and Ed O'Neil are hilarious. For this who haven't seen it, I will give you a brief synopsis: Four Criminals meet up in a small town in Montana after receiving a letter from their friend about a bank heist. However when their friend is arrested by two cops who chased him from New Jersey, they try to figure out whats going on and all hell breaks loose. The film is truly a great bank caper comedy and is sort of like a poor mans version of Oceans Eleven, only with four criminals who can't stand each other, and in Montana rather than Las Vegas. All in all if like to laugh I would strongly encourage you to see this movie.
Psycho Santa (2003)
Bad, Bad Movie
I bought this movie for 3 dollars and feel like I was robbed. As a huge horror fan I thought this film showed promise but I was terribly wrong. I could go on for ever about why this film is so bad but I will just give you a few details. First of all the movie is supposed to be set during Christmas, but there is no snow and it appears that it's summer time. Next the film is just terrible, the storyline is thin, it drags along (every scene seems like it's twice as long as it should be), and the acting is downright awful. In addition the film quality is cheap and looks like it was made on a budget of about 10 dollars. As far as gore, there is really only one scene in which you see a person killed by the Santa and the effects are almost as bad as the acting and the storyline. Well I won't go on anymore but will advise you to please avoid this movie at all costs. For true Christmas horror I would recommend either Black Christmas or Silent Night Deadly Night.
