Fantastic Four (2015)
A misunderstood Gem.
With Disney's Marvel putting out 2 to 3 films a year it's easy to understand how this one got lost in the shuffle. The movie was plagued with countless reshoots and a real terrible wig only don't let that detract that as a starter film that wasn't all that bad. It had a strong cast unfortunately the story was all over the place and just couldn't find its own voice. Unfortunately next to the films produced by Marvel Studios this retelling just didn't stand a chance. But if we're honest to ourselves it's no worse than Thor: the Dark World or Captain Marvel. It sadly suffered form trying just a bit too hard to be something it wasn't.
Almost Friends (2016)
Almost Friends a cure for the common teen romance
If you are tired of the same old teen romance done to death for the 90th time then this film is a God sent. I loved it. The characters are fantastically complex and not two dimensional. He was awkward and she was completely unavailable. The film had a great ending where they both had good endings while not winding up together. As in life not all endings are perfect.
The Green Mile (1999)
One of the absolute best of King's adaptation to film.
An unbelievable story that would make any amateur writer feel a fraud this film stands shoulder to shoulder as one of Kings finest Works put the screen. If you haven't seen it The Green Mile is an absolute masterpiece of fiction and cinema only made complete by an Unforgettable cast. Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan give oscar-worthy performances in a Unforgettable story about death row inmates and the guards sharing in their day-to-day. King captivates in a story that is very grounded sprinkled ever-so-slightly with the supernatural that will give you chills. The Green Mile is modern-day classic and must watch for any fan of the one true King of Horror.
American Pie Presents: Girls' Rules (2020)
Hard to watch.
The movie wants to be the first American Pie crossed with road trip. I get that American Pie movies are meant to be trash but this film tarnishes the good name of trash. This coming from a guy who sat through American Pie Book of Love. It's got girls trying to be boys and boys acting like girls. Its
A complete mess with no real direction. If you want to watch great teen woke film I recommend Book Smart but avoid this one like the plague.
The New Mutants (2020)
Its worth a try. It's not all that bad.
:: Quick note for comic fans. What I will be reviewing is the New Mutants film itself not the comics nor it's inaccuracies from the demon bear Saga of New Mutants.::
The New Mutants for me was a breath of fresh air from what can only be described as a bombardment of the same story in super hero films. Whether to save money or just trying something new the film sets it focus on six characters unraveling each of their dysfunctions slowly. It Centers on Dani Moonstar being put into a kind of Institution after her father and her whole tribe is wiped out by some unseen force. In the institution she's put with mutants like herself who have all suffered because of their new mutant abilities. Teenage Drama ensues as Dani finds a love interest in Rayne Sinclair (Maisie Williams) another patient/prisoner with the ability to become a wolf. Then everything is turned on its ear when the Institutions only doctor tries to murder Moonstar and the whole Hospital suddenly becomes Hill house complete with Smiling men, blood ash raining from the ceiling and a Demon Bears. It turns out Dani was born with the mutant ability to manifest everyones deepest fear. Giving it hands and legs so I can hurt them. The Demon bear feed by all of Dani's adolescent insecurities and fears destroyed her tribe and killed her father. After ripping the whole institution apart and almost killing her new friends Dani confronts her fear sending it away. Anyone who is tired of the same old thing done to death will find this film an absolute joy with a touch of horror and just a pinch John Hughes. If you give it a chance you might be surprised.
Moms' Night Out (2014)
I loved this film!
This movie took me by surprise. My wife rented it. Made me watch it. I faced it like a man facing a firing Squad. I was pleasantly surprised to find it both warm and heartfelt. If you are a parent I promise you will laugh that much harder. A simple family film with not a single moment of CGI combat. A wild card in a hand full of Duds. A simple way to say it, "I loved this film!"
Underwater (2020)
A refreshing horror for 2020.
I enjoyed this film though it did move quite fast. Character development was left on the side of the road but if you remember the film Alien you don't get to know half the crews name before the bodies start hitting the floor. Although this movie has many similarities to Ridley Scott Alien it wouldn't be fair to compare the two as Alien is a sifi horror classic. I love the look of the films tech. I loved how claustrophobic they made me feel. Compared to some of the garbage they're releasing today Underwater is a refreshing change. If you give it a chance It won't disappoint.
