Reichsführer-SS (2015)
Himmler goes to Hell!
Nazisploitation is back with a vengeance!! Director David B. Stewart III and Producer/Cinematographer, John Martineau have crafted an indie gem with Reichsfurer SS that will be a serious treat for fans of old school Nazispioitation. The story is a humanizing character piece that focuses on Heinrich Himmler and his trip into hell. Director David B. Stewart III also portrays Himmler and he brings serious humanity to the character and I definitely enjoyed the moments of black humor that he brought to the character and to the film in general. The film is a beauty to look at as well with fantastic camera-work by John Martineau and production design that goes way beyond what one generally expects from indie cinema. All in all an excellent film that delivers the exploitation, sexploitation, horror and nazisploitation goods as well as having a really fun, and fascinating story. Highly recommended!
Pick-up (1975)
The GREATEST flick....... EVER.
I gotta be straight up and just tell anyone reading this that PICK-UP is a favorite film of mine. The movie (in it's most basic sense) deals with two hippie chicks (both hot as hell by the way) who hitch a ride across Florida with a cool hippie dude. They take a detour and ultimately find themselves lost and stranded out in the Florida Everglades (props to the actors for dealing with what had to be miserable conditions out in those swamps).... Anyway.... Once out in the swamps you get lots of sex and nudity as well as a bunch of odd flashback sequences that give hints as to who the characters are etc.... I won't go into any further details because like a 'dream' or a 'trip'... It's best to just 'experience' THE experience... There's lots of stuff going on for the viewer to try to interpret if they so choose... Anyway....
In closing.... PICK-UP is incredibly difficult to get hold of but it's worth the search and is highly recommended to fans of trippy/weird/surreal type flicks as well as fans of early 70's exploitation.
This flick NEEDS a special edition DVD release!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nutbag (2000)
the Slasher Film is....... BACK!!!!
Nick Palumbo's debut film NUTBAG provides a peek inside the world of an of a serial killer. The film basically just follows the "killer" around while documenting both his crimes and his thought process.
The "killer" whom is played by Mack Hail (whom is also the director of SWITCH KILLER) is an excellent character. Mack Hail totally brings this guy to life and deserves MUCH credit for his performance. He really keeps your attention at ALL times and hopefully we'll see him resume the role in the rumored NUTBAG 2.
NUTBAG is a loving tribute to films such as MANIAC (without coming off like some fan-boy tribute film) and I think it's an excellent debut for Mr. Palumbo. Their are some areas that are lacking (mainly some of the obvious filler) but ANYTIME Mack Hail is on screen it's great stuff. The dialogue is fantastic, the locations are great..... The actress's are beautiful.... The story is very cool and the directing is top notch... Miles ahead of most no budget underground films.
Anyway...... As mentioned, it's a very solid debut film for Nick Palumbo! He's a director who's looking to get horror BACK to what it once was and I think NUTBAG is an excellent 1st step towards accomplishing that goal. He did a LOT of things right in this film and casting was probably his BEST move as Mack Hail REALLY gets the job done as the KILLER! The character is a total psycho but ya still can't help but root for him!
Shock 'Em Dead (1991)
the BEST!!!
This flick RULES!! A modern day exploitation classic that is highly recommended to fans of 80's metal and horror!
Everything a B-Film should be! Crazy, violent and filled with many beautiful actress's! Oh and yes, lead actor Stephen Quadros is excellent as the ultimate 80's Metal God! A great job turned in by him!
I won't bother talking plot details as they've been discussed (to a point) in the other reviews. My advice is to seek this film out, kick back, relax and ENJOY a truly classic little flick!
Great actors!! Great Music!! I hope director Mark Freed gets this film out on DVD soon with tons of extras! This film needs to get a second life on DVD SOON!!!!
Hey Mark, if ya read this.... How bout re-uniting the cast and doing a sequel! Angel Martin needs to return!!!!!
