Child 44 (2015)
'Snowing in June' kind of movie
No offense, but this is one of those snowing in June in Moscow movies with bears on the Red Square. If you like flicks about sadistic Russians and pseudo-soviet fiction, then you may enjoy this one. I did enjoy Rocky and I also liked Rambo in 80s, but these days quality of anti-Russian propaganda is way too low. Fact is, there was a Ukrainian serial killer who killed 56 kids, but it took place in 80s. It works as a thriller, but author tried to invent too many historical facts here. He was probably too lazy to check it against Wikipedia :) Judging by western media, Cold War has never ended and the whole movie is built in a 'Goebbels forever' theme. Pretty sad
Tri mushketera (2013)
Great acting, Great movie, Thumbs up to director!
There is a version of the same movie made in late 70s which is considered classic in Russia. Director must be really brave to do a remake on it. I think only few would dare to produce a remake of 'Gone with the Wind'. Similar story here. So, I was skeptical at first, but I must say I really enjoyed the movie. Great cast, very good acting. D'Artagnan was pretty good, Athos and Queen were great. The rest also did a good job.
To fans of the original version from 70s I must say, the movie is different, no music, full movies, not a TV series, a bit different spin on the story. Very enjoyable for the whole family.
Special thanks to director who took on this mission impossible job. Spasibo!
Stalingrad (2013)
I'm from Stalingrad and I loved the movie
I was born and grew up in downtown Volgograd (former Stalingrad). My kindergarten was next to the famous 'Dom Pavlova'. City is actually 50 miles long and battle was epic with more than 2 million fighting on both sides. Been the greatest battle of all times it was begging for a good movie,
I think this movie was waiting for a right technology. Now with computer graphics we can visualize the historical events and do things that were impossible before.
This movies has great visuals, it takes you right in the middle of this epic tragedy. In case you were ever wondering how it feels to be in a middle of such battle - watch the movie. I liked the acting in general and Pyotr Fyodorov (Kapitan Gromov) was great.
Computer graphics looks artificial at times, just like in Great Gatsby, but that's a technology limitation and it doesn't affect overall impression. I think it's the first computer generated epic battle movie and i hope will see more in the years to come.
I'm sure computer visuals will be improving in the years to come. And I really hope trend will continue and somebody would make a 'Battle of Berlin (1945)' movie. That should also be pretty interesting.
Bottom line - go watch what wars are about. WWII looks fun when you watch Captain America, but it wasn't at all. Get some original flavor. Thumbs up to Fedor Bondarchuk !!!
