The Gunman (2015)
Sean Penn Too Whacked Out to Know He's a Plagiarist
A Hit Guy (Penn) with a big, big high tech long range rifle. We give that cool looking rifle 10 points, it performed better than the one star Penn. Hit Guy hits the wrong guy or the right guy, as the story won't say in its lack of effort to win over both sides of the audience.
It's the same age old formula, Hit Guy does the hit, encounters repercussion years later, and gets the girl. Except Penn went into this movie with amnesia. He fails to politically support his anti-gun attributes, or reasons for spraying bullets all over creation. Between (((yawns))) one is left thinking that Sean is trying to dull the audience with boredom, and then kill them later with bullets. Thank God the Colorado theater shooter (Joker) was apprehended, as the Gunman would've yielded more victims in this movie. Sean wouldn't have cared as long as he gets paid with another script to shoot more people!
Ya gotta laugh out loud watching Penn shooting an automatic pistol (mac 10?) with an extended clip. He shoots it ghetto style behind his shoulder, holding it sideways and spraying bullets all over the movie set, audience, sky, everywhere except the intended target. An excerpt of that clip can be seen on youtube's movie trailer for free. Watch it before you go to the theater to sit with low-life Penn fans cheering him on to kill every black (African) guy on earth!
Cesar Chavez (2014)
Pumped Reviews: Chávez was Not a Proponent of Illegal Immigration.
As of this writing, FIVE of the "Reviewers" here NEVER rated a movie before the Cesar Chavez (2014) movie release. They apparently had an interest in the outcome. Suspect is their desire to see that "civil rights of undocumented workers" are misplaced in the heroism of César Chávez. This will goad many Americans to respond. In addition, the movie came off a bit dry possibly because the actors who knew enough about Chávez (e.g., Pena) realized the writers were off point. In real life, César had enough documented migrants, and the supply of workers were much greater than the demand.
César and his brother Richard often caught Illegals on their properties, loaded them into a pickup truck, dropped them back into Mexico, and told them never to return until they had documentation. Cesar considered the Illegals "scabs" and a host of other expletives. He had this disdain because it threatened his Civil Rights movement for documented labor of Mexican descent, threatened his relationship with the Union, and to quell the over supply of underpaid workers. César knew the Illegal threatened the success of his activism and Civil Rights movement, and he urged documented Mexican-Americans to register and vote. (Sources: The Crusades of Cesar Chavez: A Biography, March 25, 2014; and, "Hall of Honor Inductee César Chávez." U.S. Department of Labor, June 18, 2014).
In other words César Chávez was to the Mexican-American, as Martin Luther King was to the African-American, —except that César incorporated fair wages into his Civil Rights activism and Union relationships. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't fully develop this message because it had some innuendos that Mr. Chávez was okay with border jumpers for hire. He'd roll over in his grave to find out that less than "8% of Illegal aliens work in the fields," and the rest are in U.S. communities either working a job, or collecting benefits. (Source: U.S. Dept. of Justice, 2005).
For whatever reason, Hollywood having made previous movies of Chávez is still bent on blurring the lines between "undocumented workers" and "Illegal aliens." César was not okay with the Illegal alien worker, and until Hollywood gets it right it remains an unfair depiction of this man's pride of Mexican-American heritage. However, the movie did have some good aspects of advocating fair wages, better working conditions, power of hunger strikes and boycotts, and the non-violent nature of César Chávez to bring about fantastic changes. We've seen this sporadically in the past brought about in no less than three other movies, and this film brings nothing new to the table, —especially NOT addressing the immigration issues at a time in history when the release of this film is suspect. Accordingly, a lower score is just until Hollywood stops trying to rewrite history through its admissions and omissions.
Betrayal (2013)
How to Check for Accurate Movie Ratings...
We can't be too upset on how IMDb rates the movies, because it appears to all be computerized on member input. I'm not swift to convict so this movie was given a quick look see. The producer definitely needed a good sound man to cut down on mic echos, and blend the soundtrack properly. They also needed better editing to give this film more continuity. It appears nobody had heart in the making of this movie..., now How to Check for Accurate Movie Ratings on IMDb.
1) We first see that IMDb has an exceptionally high score. Take it with a grain of salt. And, go straight to the reviews.
2) Find the who "Hated It" ratings or those who gave a very low score and why. In this case we find the guy who titled his review "Beyond cheesy" gave the lowest movie score, and his belief on why. Having gave the movie a look I'll have to agree with him, but did I have to waste my time on watching the movie ~ NO!
3) All one has to do is look at the 'profile' of those who gave it an off the charts score. Here we find the guy who titled his review as "Fast paced and action packed!" Because of him IMDb's computer rated the movie at 6.8 as of this writing. But, if you look at this guy's profile he joined Jan 2014, and rate the movie on Feb. 3rd, 2014 just a few days after it's release. Moreover, Betrayal is the ONLY Movie that he RATED! An obvious shill for the movie? Read on...
We see this all the time on IMDb. People with profiles giving a movie too high a score, and it's the only movie they've ever rated. Sometimes I find a number (3 or more for example) of people with a profile that rates the movie too high and again, it's the only movie they've ever rated! These people have a vested interest in the success of the movie and used a superficial rating, because the movie can't stand on its own merits.
If it's a high budget movie, metacritic or a metascore will also kick in its separate rating at the top of the movie's cover page. This is useful, but must be balanced with good and bad reviews. Check those 'high score profiles' to see if they're pulling a fast one! With a little investigative work, one can save allot of time, money, and wasting themselves away at the movies.
BTW: If you find yourself in a bad movie, please come back, rate it, and tells us why.
Happy Hunting...
Gone Dark (2013)
A Movie for the Jerry Springer Crowd
If you like seeing people getting shot and killed for cracking a joke, getting drunk then shot and killed, getting shot and killed by dope smokers because you're not stoned, chicks with boobs shooting and killing without rhyme or reason, shooting and killing police over a meaningless traffic stop, or any and all creatures getting shot and killed just for laughs ~ then this movie is for you! Unfortunately the only people who don't get shot and killed are Pascal and his cameraman in this wannabe Tarantino B- style flick.
The only good thing about this movie is that Pascal finally learned how to use a camera tripod, but has yet to learn anything about microphone placement outside of his HD Camcorder. Apparently the full cast and crew logged onto IMDb to give this flick a 7.0 star rating (as of this writing). None of them wrote a review as they've yet learned how to do those things, or there's simply nothing to write about.
I was initially sold on the plot. A guy fakes his death, and his sister believing her brother's dead goes looking for his killer(s). Sounds like the makings of a great movie, right? But, it's pure deception to hook as many naive movie viewers into forking up their cash. It's an old and tired ploy to support the habits of LA movie backers as they exist aimlessly, and wouldn't know the difference between a good or bad script unless their own loved ones got shot and killed.
In conclusion the movie strives to blur the lines between reality and parody. As a result it gives Bike Clubs, Guns, and human behavior a bad name. It may be responsible for the next psyched-out medicated kid, playing video games and watching this drivel to go out and commit the next Columbine or Sandyhook.
Message to Hollyweed: We're watching you, but not your movies. Stop praying upon IMDb and others to deceive people into watching your waste products. You already fooled us once..., and now it's time for you to get out of the business allowing people with an actual education take over and make movies that America really wants to see.
Inland Empire (2006)
The definition of this movie is: Extreme Depression, Melancholy, and Suicidal Entertainment!
What a downer! This movie will drag you out into a bitter sleep. I rented this "thing" based upon IMDb and an exceptionally high Metascore (72/100). Gawd, what were these people thinking while watching and rating? Then it occurred to me, this movie being released in 2006 was a very big drug year. Prozac amongst others were at their peak, and this movie shows it. Its because when coming off these types of anti-depressants, people hit a brick wall into a meaningless existence. Moreover, this movie tries to drag you into their depressed mode. That's what I hate about it most. I give it two stars for the successful effort. If you're taking mind altering drugs..., then this movie's for you!
Clerks II (2006)
Straight from the Sewer Pipe from Hollywood!
Why this "movie" is getting such high marks is beyond me. If you like more F-bombs, and cum-sucking cock jokes per minute then this movie's for you! Where's the competition? This "flick" evidences that some on stage comedians should not be writing, let alone directing their own movies. The script starkly bashes Christians from a liberal Jewish perspective. You know the kind, those who want their Palestinian State in the face of slaughtering their own Jewish homage. While I do like Kevin Smith's on stage performance, and those roles where scripts are written for him, he should otherwise stay far away from movie making. But, that's not going to happen from the Sewer (crack) Pipe of Hollyweed...
