The Flash (2023)
So much fun
It's just what these movies are supposed to be - fun and fast and pure entertainment. They take it the extra mile with all the fan service and cameos, that's fore sure, and they're all enjoyable and take you back down memory lane. And Batman is just wow, both versions! It's like they finally remembered how to write him being cool. Obviously it will be quite bitter sweet with the announced "reboot" - but hopefully there is still a chance to incorporate some of these charters. Although I hope not Supergirl - by far the "weakest link", could have been just fine without her and can't say I was particularly fond of how she came across or how they portraid the character.
The Last of Us (2023)
Very boring
And quite a bad bad choice with the casting of Ellie. Comes across as annoying and in the end becomes unbearable to watch. This together with the generally slow pace and jumping up and down between tones really doesn't do it any favours. First episode was actually ok, but then it just became more and more boring with each week. It's a zombie show after all, I was expecring to get some more excitmemt from it. You are for sure better off playing the game or watching the cinematics for it if you like something more engaging and thrilling (nd I guess that revisiting the game recently made the tv show even worse in comparison). Each will have it's own preference in the end and for sure the show does not have to be a mirror image of the game, but for me personally is a huge fail. I abandoned it mid episode six and this is it.
Black Adam (2022)
Surpasses expectations
It looked good from the trailer, but it surpasses expectations. Great, great fun. Never a dull moment, it's like 2 hours long but time flies by. Introduces quite a number of characters but somehow manages to keep it uncomplicated, makes you like them all, highlights where they all shine and what's cool about each of them and you become invested in them quite a bit by the end. I want to know/see more about all of them now. And I hope they eventually adapt a Shazam/Black Adam story - or even beyond that. And that post credit scene? Although I went in knowing what it was about, it still managed to create in a couple of seconds so much giddiness and excitement for the future.
The Accursed (2022)
Great fun
Accidentaly run across this and love it. What you read in the imdb synopsis is pretty much the movie, but yeah, watching it at night with the lights off will make you want to bring your crosses near:))) It's one of those horror movies that does not rely heavily on gore and blood (although there is quite a bit of that also), but on creating a really creepy tense atmosephere and a sense of terror (the one you get with small reflections in the mirror or shadows passing by caught by the corner of the eye and jumpscares). Bonus points for my favourite setting - characters stuck in an isolated location with evil lurking. Coherent plot, and although there are some holes and dubious decisions from the characters, they are not silly enough to make you roll your eyes and take you out and away from what is going on. Cool ending. Take it for what it is - a fun horror movie and the experience will be great.
Dracula (2020)
It is really good (as long as you skip the last episode)
The first episode is indeed great - the old story with just enough new elements and twists to the characters to make it really, really captivating. I loved the second episode as well - I do not believe I have ever seen in a movie how Dracula's boat journey to England took place and I am an absolute sucker for the plotline "a group of people are stuck together in a place they cannot escape from and then they start dying one by one" - although this time around you know who the murderer is, it is still entertaining. The 3rd episode was a big let down - I did not mind at all the modern times settings, but the story was boring and meah and the ending absolutely awful.
A Christmas Carol (2019)
Loved it
I loved it. Yes, it is different and way darker than any adaptation I've seen before, but what would have been the point in having another clone of this story? Obviously, if you want a feel good family Christmas movie to watch with children - this is not it (turn to Hallmark for those). But if you are an adult, give it a chance - it is well done, visually stunning and the 3 hours will pass in a heartbeat
Joker (2019)
Amazing!
Just as expected to be and what the trailer made it look like - an absolutly amazing journey to madness/freedom and personal power. Unpredictable second part of the movie but just wow! You will gasp, cover your mouth, laugh (not something I would have expected) and jump a lot! Joaquin is great (as always) and the role fits him like a glove. Obviously, I loved the movie :)
