Trading Places (1983)
How funny is this movie
I had watched once when I was little but what a joy to see it again. The cast is brilliant and carry this film so well. It is silly at times but the fun they had making it shows.
What I find amazing is how bizarre some of the scenes are, there is a corporate Christmas party, gorilla rape, eddy swallowing a joint... It is full of stereotypes (the butler with the heart of gold, the evil brothers...) but again it works and is fun to watch and please lets not forget Jamie Lee Curtis getting naked. Twice (!). I have to get on DVD that is for sure.
Ninja Man (2002)
So Charming
I really really enjoyed this.
It didn't take itself to serious and I loved that. Ninja Man's character was original and refreshing. The story lacked a bit but again I didn't mind cause there was always a scene around the corner that either gave me the giggles or distracted me with its weirdness.
I saw it in a little cinema and the atmosphere was wonderful. There was comedy before and drinking throughout and it all added to a wonderful night.
Underworld (2003)
Oh sooo disappointing
I saw it yesterday I left the cinema feeling that a) I needed a seriously strong drink and b) that I should have not paid GB 8.10 !!! for this. What a shame I was so excited about the story. It sounded so great the love that cannot be. Romeo and Juliet with Vampires and Werewolves. What a fantastic concept. But there was no love story. Did I miss it? Why does she fall for him. It is obvious why he fell for her. Kate in latex is NiCE.
The plot was far to overblown for my taste. Everybody seemed to be betraying someone. I don't think it needed such a convoluted plot when the original concept is so strong. Less is more...
There were no changes of tempo in the whole film. It was action from start to finish on such a high level that when they reached the climax there were no more gears left and I was bored.
The set up of a sequel was ham-handed, I am sure there will be more to come. What a shame...
