The Princess and the Bodyguard (2022)
Not believable
35 year old woman deciding if she wants to be a princess. Living and acting like she is in her early 20's. It wasn't believable at all. From the time they are born, Royalty is trained to that lifestyle. She is a gallery owner, but acts like a college student. Her 33 year old beat friend decides it's time to grow up and get a real job. The ages in the script don't match the story. This could have been interesting but they just didn't pull it off. Bottom line... not a believable story, characters weren't well developed, and the plot lacked anything of real importance. Superficially underwhelming.
The Love Club (2023)
Cheating and Lying the new Hallmark
Hallmark has reached a new low with this movie. The main character spends the entire time cheating on her new fiance. No depth to the character, who completely lacks, ironically, character. This could have been a fun new series, like the Wedding Veil movies. Unfortunately it completely lacks any substance, morals, or values. The male lead character isn't much better. No depth, along with his lies and scheming make him completely unlikable. Very weak plot. Weak acting, just no substance at all. Hallmark really needs to get a clue on who their fan base is or they will lose it completely. Not worth the time wasted to watch. Do not recommend.
A Country Wedding (2015)
A Favorite Hallmark Movie
I have watched A Country Wedding a few times over the years. It is my favorite Autumn Reeser movie and Jesse Metcalf isn't half bad in it either. The story moves effortlessly and the two have great chemistry together. The acting, script, and music are very well done. Even the supporting actors are believable, which isn't always the case with Hallmark. I appreciate the "realness" of the story and the authenticity of the characters. I wish Hallmark would get back to the quality that used to set them apart instead of pandering to the crowd. If they went back to their roots I would be watching more, that's for sure.
Snowkissed (2021)
Did all the writers move to GAC?
I typically like Jen Liley and Chris McNally but not in this movie. No chemistry between the two. Script was weak and boring. Scenery was ok, could have been better. Loved Amy Groening! Her character was great. The writers did good by her. And her acting drew you in. I'd like to see her and McNally in a film together as that would be more believable than this one. Wish Hallmark didn't use the same women for all their main rolls and let women like Groening have an opportunity to be the star. She is great! Hire new writers, build up the men more, put some effort into the cinematography and you might dig your way out of the mess you created.
The Winter Palace (2022)
Boring movie
This wasn't a favorite Hallmark movie for me. In fact it missed the mark completely. I didn't feel the chemistry between the two main characters. And the story has been done so many times and done much better than this one. Plus, the message was selfish. Do what's right for you and the rest be damned. Sometimes we must sacrifice in life, but that doesn't mean we lose out on happiness or the ability to be ourselves. Selfish sentiment for a selfish age. I have loved both actors in other movies but this one just didn't do it for me. I wouldn't recommend this movie. You can find the same story only better elsewhere.
#Xmas (2022)
Worst Hallmark Movie
I don't even know where to begin. Lets begin with the horrible storyline. Let's lie and think it's ok, as long as it gets us what we want and think it won't come out in the end. It irritates me to think we would buy into that plot. Horrible acting - overdone or amateurish. Timing was off - long, weird pauses between sentences, script was lame, no chemistry between lead characters. Should I go on, or do you get the point? Hallmark is really going downhill fast. Values and morals do make a good story. Hallmark needs to fire the writers and go back to what made them loved. I wouldn't spend your time watching this as it was wasted time that I can never get back.
Mystery 101: Deadly History (2021)
My Favorite Mystery 101
This episode is my favorite of them all, followed closely by episode 6. Love the chemistry between the 2 actors. The cliff hanger at the end has me wanting the next installment now! Hope we get more than 2 in 2022!
An Uncommon Grace (2017)
Good story, bad acting
I really wanted to love this movie. It was a new take on an old story line and the story itself was very good. Another refreshingly clean movie from Hallmark. Even though the story was great, the acting was stilted and seemed low budget for a Hallmark movie. Jes Macallan was amazing, and so was Kelly McGillis... which I didn't even realize was her until after the movie was over. But all the other actors seemed dry and rehearsed. I wish Hallmark would have put more backing into it as it could have been a 10. I have watched numerous Amish movies over the years, and I wish Sean Faris had too... the accent was awful and very distracting. And I didn't really feel any chemistry between Maccallan and Faris, so that didn't help either. Overall it was more enjoyable than most of the rude, crude, and over the top stuff that is out there today. A good break from the tedium of life. Just left with the wish that it could have been so much better!
A Wedding for Christmas (2018)
Christmas Movie Full of Snobby Behavior
The only problem with this movie is the over-the-top snobby behavior of the lead actress, which is the writers fault. It isn't believable that someone of her "caliber" would behave that way with potential vendors. It does not endear you to her, which makes the rest of the movie less enjoyable. I would have shut if off in the very beginning but kept it on for background noise as I did other work. Don't recommend if you are wanting a true, heartfelt Christmas movie.
Knightfall (2017)
Best Discovery This Summer!
Many have pointed out this isn't historically accurate. Correct.
Many have pointed out the story could have been better. Correct.
However, if you want to be entertained by a good story with some very good acting, you will find it in Knightfall.
Truly enjoyed, mainly because the actors made you believe their story.
Tom Cullen, my new favorite actor. Commanding performance, great leader, he made this story come to life!
I didn't want it to end, but when it did, I was able to stop holding my breath!!
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
My Favorite Robin Hood
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Perfect rainy day movie!
FBI (2018)
Reserving Opinion
After watching the first episode I'm reserving my opinion for this new series. The storyline was unoriginal and had obvious political undertones that are overdone. The characters lacked passion with the exception of Ebonee Noel. She was the only actor who seemed like they actually liked their job. I'm reserving my opinion and will watch again next week. Hoping it was first show jitters and the acting improves. If the obvious political undertones continue I'll move on from this show.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Big Disappointment
I loved the original show and was excited to see the remake. Huge disappointment. Weak acting, characters, storyline. Took me a bit to realize this wasn't supposed to be a slapstick remake. So disappointed. Can't believe this is a CBS show. Well below this network's standards.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Ready For The Next One
Not as bad as I thought it might be. While at first it seems like there is quite a bit of, "let's feel sorry for the poor terrorists", it does a good job of showing what those on the front lines are facing. Unlike some reviews, I thought they did a good job of casting the roles. Other than the subtle moments of pointed politicizing, it was worthy of Tom Clancy. I really hope I don't have to wait a year for the next installment.
