Sheesh Mahal (1950)
A musical film that also teaches a lesson!
This B+W movie was my favorite because of an excellent cast, story and music. In the cast, Prem Adeeb, whose name has been missed by error, plays opposite Naseem Bano, the female lead or heroine. This charming and beautiful actress was given the title of "Paree-chehra" (fairy faced). Sohrab Modi in the character role is impressive, and is also successful as the director. Though his style is theatrical, his powerful dialog delivery and face impressions make an impact. Pran as villain is also OK. Vasant Desai's music is great and 2 melodious songs "Dhoop chhaa'on hay duniyaa" (title song if I rightly recall) and "Aadmi woh hay museebat se pareshaan na ho" were popular. The film is simple in technique yet effectively communicates the message. Overall, it is didactic and motivates the viewers. It is free of any obscenity, vulgarity or violence and is thus safe even for children.
