Very Entertaining...
28 March 2012
The Grey is a 2012 American thriller film directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Liam Neeson, Frank Grillo and Dermot Mulroney. The story follows a number of men stranded in Alaska after a plane crash, who are forced to survive using little more than their wits, as a pack of wolves stalks them. The storyline sound familiar but what makes this one different is the fact that you can feel the emotions, the fears and the thrills of the cat and mouse game as it unfolds in front of you, you feel the frustrations of the group as they are taunted and haunted by the beasts. The graphics are brilliant and are actually the highlight of the movie; you can actually feel the snow on your skin as it snows on the set. Liam proved once again acting is in his blood as he takes you in a journey of a man who is lost in Alaska and now is given a responsibility to make sure the group is safe as he is personally suffer from his demons. Overall the movie is worth a night out and is worth your time, you still feel the thrills even after you have finished it.

A Masterpiece
28 March 2012
The Flowers of War is a 2011 Historical drama war directed by directed by Zhang Yimou, starring Christian Bale, Ni Ni, Zhang Xinyi, Tong Dawei, Atsuro Watabe, Shigeo Kobayashi and Cao Kefan. It is set in 1937, Nanjing, China, during the "Rape of Nanjing", at the time of the Second Sino-Japanese War. A group of escapees, finding sanctuary in a church compound, try to survive the plight and persecution brought on by the violent invasion of the city It was named the top-grossing Chinese film of 2011. It was selected as the Chinese entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but did not make the final shortlist. It also received a nomination for the 69th Golden Globe Awards. The 6th Asian Film Awards presented The Flowers of War with several individual nominations, including Best Film and one will understand why all the hype and the nominations. This is the best historical drama that doesn't take sides of the war, who is far or who isn't, who started what and who didn't like any other war dramas we have seen. It doesn't try to justify it but it shows the evil and the results of war. This was a tearful experience both from an older kind (the prostitutes in the movie) as well as the children (the kids in the movie). This makes you ask the question on the subject of war, Japanese and Chinese war in this case or any other war you have heard of: One wonders why they had to do this? Why did Japan start the war? For what? Its obvious starting war is a shortcut to the destruction of humanity. The Japanese government has been denying there were 300,000 people killed during the Nanking massacre (well, they are not alone, similarly there are also those of holocaust denial). The Flowers of War does a great deal in reminding is of these events so that we could do all we can to prevent another war from coming. The actors and the actresses were great and I applaud Christian Bale for his role, yet again he proves he is undisputed in the way he takes his roles and make them comes to life. The graphics awesome and characters superb, script well executed to such an extent you can hardly draw a line or separate the comedy and drama in it. Go hire this it is worth your time and it is a masterpiece.

Excellent
28 March 2012
I have been on the Korean/Asians movies tip these days and the reason is simple it is hard to find a solid and an interesting movie in Hollywood, you see in a way they are doing remakes and even buying movies that are done in other countries to do them in Hollywood style. Well as a movie fanatic I found my getaway in foreign movies and man was I not entertained. This is one of the best movies of 2011 in Korea (Korean is making its mark in Movie industry) and it boasts with Four Awards The film won four awards in 48th Daejong Awards to Best Actor for Park Hae-il and Best New Actress for Moon Chae-won.) The film is about an archer who risks his life to save his sister from slavery under Prince Dorgan's rule. Other reviews have likened it to Apocalypto but this is nothing like it and Apocalypto doesn't even come close to it and I will tell you why… War of the Arrows is not your typical set battle piece it shows emotions you can see their fear, desperation and panic for example the way they portray death is sad, there is no joy in it even for your enemy, while Apocalypto showed victims and victimization this shows sacrifice and dedication and staying true to your promise no matter the situation. While Apocalypto was on Native Americans and doesn't make you relate to the whole ordeal this one makes you wonder what you could have done faced with the same situation. While Apocalypto showed blood thirsty humans turned to beasts kind of thing for their benefit this one is the survival of the fittest. The common thing in them is obviously the gore and violence. Taking this into consideration I find this one a winner. It is fast paced and will have you glued to your screen from the beginning till the end and what makes it a masterpiece is that the stunts are real it doesn't use you CGI except on the tigers scene which I will excuse as getting the real tiger could have dumbed it down a bit… Overall this is a masterpiece and worth your time

The Best in Comics/Cartoon Adaptations
9 January 2012
I am not going to say much as it has already been said, all I am going to say is that this is the best adaptation I have ever watched especially to the fans of Tintin.

When a kid I stumbled upon his comics in our old school library and I collected all of them for my personal collection, my kids even got a chance to see them and they enjoyed them, not only the comics also the animation series.

I am happy they never used live people for it could have taken away the fun and the adventure off it. I loved the battleship scene the most reminded me of Jack Sparrow - got a little bit of him... Liked the desert scene also it was so real.

It's a must see and get your self a copy once out, it's for keeps...

One of the Best of 2011
9 January 2012
Though it started as one of the usual cop series The Chicago Code changed it's paced and introduced us to the cops vs. superiors not the cops vs. criminals kinda-of-series we used to. It is the kind if series that makes you love the law again and though at first I disliked the woman figure as a commissioner but I understood at the end of it why they chose a woman role.

The cast was superb and never mind the accents of which I usually not focus on anyways but the core of the series. I liked Delroy Lindo for his cool, charm and cruelty, he is very manipulative and I don't think anyone could have pulled this role of the way he did, he is the love me now and hate me later kinda-guy and what I liked the most was a brief history of Chicago as well as of the characters.

What makes it unique from the other shows is that it is a reality of the times we are living in where we have all heard of corrupt superiors or aldermen yet there is nothing done about them... It brings a new meaning to whatever you do will catches up with you.

All in all I enjoyed the series and was somehow glad they cancelled it it should have been a bore... Running around the same circle...

It came, we saw it and we loved it...

The Pacific (2010)
War Through the Eyes of the Marines...
14 October 2011
We did history lessons on the Pacific War but never have we been taken through the eyes of it like The Pacific did. It went too deep where the text books didn't, it made us realize the war and it's scars. It made us realize those who went through it were human beings as we are. It made us see their horrors and the effects of war started by the people who did not even go and fight it. To me I saw the boys and men who were torn and were robbed of their innocence for the cause they didn't even know.

The series delivered what Pearl Harbour didn't, the intense of the war and the horrors of it.

As much as the show focuses more on the marines and the America and showed the brutality of the Japanese but I wish it could have not compromised the fact that even the Americans were brutal as well as per history.

We have seen Americans as victims of war but the reality is war is war and looking at it through unbiased eyes it is capable of changing a victim into a perpetrator of evil.

Other than that I loved the show and I wish HBO will give us the full insight of Vietnam next, to go where Platoon and Casualties of War didn't.

Aren't We Entertained??? Yes We Are (BEST SERIES OF THE YEAR)
14 October 2011
While others have focused and summarized the plot of the series I will comment more on the freshness, originality of the show and the quality of actors in it... Not in a long time I have been this entertained, this is one of the best shows in 2011 and for the next years if they decide to continue it (of which I doubt they will not - why stop a good thing???) The show though other might look it the same as detective shows but this one is packed with awesome action in fact it is Human Target with balls. I give it up for Jonathan Nolan and JJ Abram for bringing us what we have been waiting for, A BAG FULL OF ACTION. One of the nicest thing about it is that there are no many characters on the series but the main characters. Jim and Micheal are by far the best pair in the action drama.

Best show of the year and I really hope they don't turn it into a love story... We've seem more of those...

Best to date in modern horrors...
27 July 2011
I had an opportunity of watching this last night with my wife and man! I have never been this freaked out since The Exorcist and IT... I couldn't believe this day and age they can pull out one like this, it was all fun and a ride till the end, I was jumping all the way, my eyes popped out through my glasses to such an extent I could hardly sleep at night, was even scared of all dark passage and mirrors...

One of the reasons I knew I was going to enjoy it was it was edited by the director himself and right there and there I knew it was going to be worth watching as we were going to get exactly what the director directed.

This is the kind of a movie that will leave you thinking the whole time, the cast was great and convincing. Most of the horror movies especially with kids don't pull it off like this cast did. And I enjoyed it as much as I did Dead Silence and The Skeleton Key...

Forget James Cameron, this is a great movie...
25 July 2011
An experience worth watching again this movie is, forget James Cameron this is a wonderful movie on Alister Grierson's level, the reason why critics didn't like it was because it had him written all over it and I guess they expected a mind blowing experience but if you look at this from a director's point of view and the story line behind it is a wonderful movie. I liked Poseidon and I loved Perfect Storm, this is not on their level but an experience worth watching over and over again...

The cast is great too and they fit the setting and the plot, in short I enjoyed it and loved it...
