The Summit (2023)
Enjoyable
Enjoyable Aussie trash reality TV set in the stunning Southern Alps of New Zealand. Might have been contrived at times but overall good dynamics between the cast, heart pounding tests and and manipulative but enjoyable narrative.
Interesting to see Jai Courtney with his native twang and he added a cool host with a little menace to the proceedings.
Some cast acted against others early and paid dearly later on in the episodes. Some of the cast you'd think we're capable ended up exhausted. How one of the "most capable" survived to the end was a real head scratcher...
Best thing on TV in ages..... Worth a watch!
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Whew! What a relief.
I liked this film. It felt like an apology for the mess they left the characters in at the end of the 3rd film. The Matrix was always a love story, not a tragedy which was why we all felt so gutted at the end of Revolutions.
A satisfying way to end the series on a positive note. And they lived happily ever after.
No Time to Die (2021)
No Time To Die (but plenty of time to bore you senseless)
There's so may things wrong with this film and so many positive reviews I'm going to have to accept that the problem is with me.
Here's a quick test for viewers, every time Bond doesn't flich at being shot at you have to have a shot. If you're still sober at the end of the film you're watching something completely different from what I did.
- Why is Blofeld even in this?
- Bond is about hope and he just gives up. Very unbond-like.
- Why are the Aston Martins in this film?
- What the hell was Rami Malek's character about?
- There is no sense of danger. None. Zip. Nada.
- Craig seems to have just given up acting. He hardly even pouts in this movie.
- The bond girl is not very interesting or attractive and Craig is so much older than her it's cringey.
- 007 is now a woman.
Lazy lazy lazy, that's all I can say. So much money and so little entertainment.
Red Notice (2021)
Garbage
Stinky piece of contemptuous garbage. I will never get this time back. If these actors keep this up you are literally watching them jump the shark.
I couldn't even follow the plot it was so simple. Reynolds plays Reynolds, Rock plays Rock and BANG! What should be "paper scissors rock to Gadot" just shows her to be a terrible terible limited actress.
As long as overpaid actors like these continue to make this sort of copy and paste film-making we are our own worst enemy for encouraging them.
My 13 year old daughter seemed to like it - but even she said the jungle scenes looked like they were filmed in someone's back yard.
Avoid.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)
A few beers later...
Not sure what's going on with the ratings. People seem to rate or hate this movie. Having come off movie blockbusters like Black Panther I couldn't even sit through to the end I found this a solid film. A little hokey in the set-up but I think there's plenty of life in the franchise and its better than most of the rubbish Hollywood's been putting out lately. BIG SPOILER - I was gutted when BdT was killed and I thought it made the film very real. Relieved when he lived but it was a bit cheap. It's also a bit difficult to believe US soldiers have carte blanche in any territory they chose to venture without consequences and a lot of the actions of the US team in the film just seemed like plain old murder.
