Thrilling fast passed drama that is excitingly accurate historically
20 December 2013
Great Series ! Meticulously researched as to historic accuracy. 1864 NYC.

The sets and costumes are fantastic and truly represent the period. We think of these people living a distant past yet we see through COPPER that their lives are very much like our own. A rough and tumble period it was; civil war, crime, class and race struggle and just good and not so good folks trying to survive.

This series is so well made I am surprised it did not win more awards. I can't wait for the next season.

Don't miss it. If you like COPPER you will enjoy RIPPER STREET (BBC) very much as well.

Sound Crew Production & Ending
20 August 2012
Wonderful movie. I get the impression that many parts have been overdubbed by the sound crew. Was this decided at the time of filming or afterward for technical reasons. Sooting without sound in 1967 was acceptable on certain locations. this was to save production costs. Anyone else notice this. The soundtrack is more than perfect for the action at times. Plus the lip sync is often a bit off with the actors in some scenes. I Found it a bit disconcerting at times. Bates was just great and should be on the cover still of the movie. Finch was outstanding as well. The ending was just to truncated vis-a-vie the book and a bit to pat. But that's Hardy for you. Still I loved the production as a whole.

Unsung Actor
22 April 2012
I remember seeing this movie as a kid on Channel 9 in NYC as part of their Million Dollar Movie series. They always showed the same movie various times for one week. I thought it was great when I was a kid, 9 or 10, and have loved seeing it a few times over the years. My old friend sent me a email saying he saw this great movie and did I ever see it. I felt like the cat that swallowed the canary. Tone is one of our great actors but many don't know his name. Some time after seeing this movie I saw him on the Ben Casey MD TV Show. I knew it was him although he looked different. My wife said her mother loved Tone but my wife had never seen his photo. It's good to have IMDb !

Linked to Riverboat General Slocum disaster
13 January 2012
Raule the Director was definitely affected by the terrible tragedy of the Excursion Ship The General Slocum that burned with great loss of life in the East River of NYC in 1904 This film's riverboat seen is directly linked to the disaster of the excursion steamship General Slocum 6/15/1904 along the East River NYC.

Over 1000, mostly women and children, lost their lives due to criminal negligence. At the time of the making of this movie the tragedy was still fresh in the minds of most Americans. People may want to examine info available about this tragedy on the internet. It was NYC's largest loss of life in one event until the 9/11 tragedy.
