A House on the Bayou (2021)
The people that hated this are probably the same glued to their phones in a theater
Living in the south, I really enjoyed this one. I love movies that keep you guessing. The suspense was great as well as the atmosphere. Definitely check it out.
The Guilty (2021)
Ridiculous
I don't believe that anyone involved with this film consulted anyone involved in law enforcement at all. If they did they would have discovered nearly every premise of this story to be inaccurate at best, wildly laughable at worst.
Officers under investigation are placed on leave, not reassigned to dispatch. Calls don't follow you around. They drop in like any other call center. When you recall 911 you can and most likely will get a different operator. My head spins at the potential lawsuits involved with his refusing to help and hanging up on an overdose and an accident victim.
Police would definitely respond and do all possible to help an abduction victim with even just a vehicle description and general location. They would also definitely respond to a 6 year old and infant left home alone. No argument, no hoops to jump through. Done and done.
I have also never seen a dispatch center without a terminal messaging system. They don't run around telling other operators they have a call for them. They handle the call and message the other operator if need be because they are most likely now on a different call.
The lack of knowledge on police and dispatch procedures is laughable, lazy, and insulting. I would have expected more from the team behind this.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Too long
This would have made a much better movie. I am a fan of Mike Flanagan but this one fell short for me. As many have pointed out it is verbose. I don't mind a slow build and usually love the atmosphere of his projects. This one felt dismal. Not in an eery way but a gray boring way. I had to struggle through and would probably not recommend.
21 Again (2019)
Dismal
I gave this show two stars for addressing the disabled girls struggle with confidence and acceptance. Most of the others seem to be desperately searching for uniqueness by incessantly labeling themselves while escaping any sort of responsibility.
Most of these mothers look young for their age but none of them look 21. I found it a little hard to believe that anyone bought them being in their early 20s. All of that aside it was boring. They could have condensed this show down to one episode.
L'Agence: l'immobilier de luxe en famille (2020)
Not enough properties
It seems like this show is trying to be Million Dollar Listing by spending more time focused on the family behind the business. Unfortunately they are not as interesting or entertaining.
Death of Me (2020)
Misunderstood
I have seen some refer to this as a Wicker Man rip off but I think the mention of it in the film makes it more of an homage. I found this to be reminiscent of Midsommer. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Wow
I was legitimately surprised by this movie. I wasn't sure of what to expect but it was a good old school action movie in the vein of Die Hard. Solid performances, especially from the protagonist and the villian. Thoroughly watchable and engaging. I would highly recommend.
What Happened in Vegas (2017)
Waste of time
One sided conspiracy laden snoozefest. I feel like I need to make a documentary now on being subjected to this film.
Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)
Disappointed
Being a big fan of the first two books (after that they get a little redundant) I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I never got a chance to see it in the theater and in spite of the bad reviews and poor box office I still had relatively high hopes for it. I didn't mind Hugh Dancy being cast as Luke and the other actors I was not familiar enough with to judge prior to seeing. That said now that I have seen it I found most of the acting to be pretty over the top and in some cases downright bad. Krysten Ritter was especially terrible as Suze. I was also disappointed with the decision to move the setting from London to New York. Overall the movie lost a lot of the endearing qualities of the book. Becky no longer seemed relatable due to her inflated debt and out there fashion sense. I guess I would make the same suggestion as a previous poster and advise to skip the movie and buy the book instead.
