Mindcage (2022)
The Malkovich magic is strong in this one!
Gave it a pass at first glance with its rating @ 4.2.and after reading reviews that really, hated its guts. Then a buddy said I should give it a shot.
And this movie, like Street Kings that started IMDB @ 5.1 and is now closer to 7, is actually a good watch. Its a good Malkovich watch, like Street Kings was a good Reeves watch. Give this movie an unbiased chance.
Planned to end my review here, but IMDB says I must write more words, so here goes. Silence of The Lambs fans, and who isn't, should not be told to hate this movie. This is not a bad attempt to remake SOTL. This movie has its own back story and creates its own other worldly reality as it fully unveils itself. And as it unveiled itself it never became boring, dull, or padded to me. It made me more interested. I admit I liked Malkovich a lot in this. I can visualize him licking his lips as he first read the script. But the rest of the cast is solid as well. The rotten reviews seem to me to be way off point. I enjoyed Silence of The Lambs. This is not trying to emulate Silence of The Lambs. Watch it with an open mind. It demands your attention, so if you go for snacks while watching at home, be sure to put it on pause before leaving the room. Silence of The Lambs was a true horror experience. This a magical mystery not a horror show. The gruesomeness is all done off screen. Yet is still manages a good number of twists and spooky moments as it slithers along to a surprisingly well crafted end. At any rate, I liked this movie much, much more than a 4.2 rating. That rating is just sad. I'm happy I heeded my friends advisement to give it a watch. And I highly recommend you give it an unbiased watch as well.
Shade (2003)
A movie that pulls you in and doesn't let go.....
Expectations were low to start(no real theatrical release)but it grabbed me from the opening credits and didn't let go 'til the last credits rolled off the screen..
Tight, full of twists with great casting, and really good energy this movie was a hellova lotta fun to experience. We watch a lot of DVDs off Netflix (5 a week) but this was the best experience on a 45inch home screen I've had from a movie with no marketing and no advance hype since Interstate 60. How sad if true that it only made $50,000 in theatrical release. (previous review)... I'd give it 9 out of 10...And Stallone's performance was the cherry on top.
Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road (2002)
Brilliantly imaginative! Immensely satisfying! A real hoot!
Blockbuster failed to list this movie as a new release. Shame on you Blockbuster. A magical vision, brilliantly acted, directed and written, and a wonderful movie experience that combines a touch from The Wizard of Oz, a pinch from Alice in Wonderland, and a sprinkling from The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. Gary Oldman's performance alone, well worth of price of admission, is only one of many wonderfully satisfying elements. Skillfully casted and with great cameos by Michael J. Fox, Kurt Russell and Ann-Margaret, we get swept up and taken down an open road of imagination, constant surprise and great fun. Intensely inventive and magical, this movie is a tightly crafted joy to watch and a true 10 out of 10!
