See You Next Christmas (2021)
Solid choice for my new favorite annual holiday film
Watching See You Next Christmas catapulted me into the feeling of a warm, honest family tradition at the holidays. I loved the way this community of characters celebrates each year through all the many and massive changes in their lives. It doesn't shy away from the real, awkward scenarios that can present themselves during times of holiday stress. The close knit relationships definitely go through some realistic conflict, and the portrayal of strangers at a party definitely reminded me of some I've attended myself. The characters are fun, nuanced, and compelling, and the movie breathes a refreshing air of authenticity I want to see again next Christmas.
The Weirdos Next Door: What About Vi? (2016)
Great new character and artwork!
The Weirdos Next Door is generally an amazing trip down memory lane for those of us who grew up watching things like Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock or Labyrinth - either when released or on DVD. There's a sweet, somewhat complicated but wholly present air to the series that, despite Wellington's predisposition to technology, almost feels pre-Internet era.
The character of the therapist is a fun and interesting step outside of the series' usual setting at the homes of Jen and "the weirdos next door." This season takes some interesting risks that I think are truly worthwhile, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the plot leads with Jen and Wellington, in particular.
This episode tries out a new character and some great comic-book artwork. Without spoilers, I can honestly say I love the new spin and think the writers are using their "imaginations" in a wonderful way.
