Un Actor Malo (2023)
Good actors badly edited.
The story is not easy but you have to be careful to do it well. Fiona's impressive performance is what almost saves the film. But the director/writer does not have the skills to tell a terrible event with a strong but delicate dramatic course. They make Fiona bring out her talent but it's a melodramatic abuse that makes the key scenes almost unbearable. They waste such good actors and actresses with scenes so long that they become tedious and kill the little rhythm that is barely achieved.
You have to be tactful to be able to tell a story like this efficiently and without going overboard. The story is lost in overemphasis and melodramatic exaggeration.
Star Trek: The Alternative Factor (1967)
The writer is lame, bad and boring
This episode really sucks. Don Ingalls is the one of the worst writers I've ever seen. Yuk. There is no way Capt Kirk will let to wander alone this Lazarus character but then, wham! Lazarus can sabotage the Entrerprise free like an admiral from Starfleet. The storyline could have made, with the proper treatment, a very good episode but, damn, it really sucks. And the next one is maybe the best episode of all the first season, Harlan Ellison's "The City On The Edge Of Forever" And do not let me begin about the director, he is not better. He did not get the crafts to solve the chapter problems. Two of a kind. Like we say here in México: God make them and they get together...
The Beaver (2011)
-SPOILERS- This picture is a loss of time and money. -SPOILERS-
I think this picture is an essay of what could have been a good film. I see no way to describe the lack of sense of the story, the weak plot, the solution is to mutilate imagination and you have to be other person to be successful. Not mentioning that they try to say that you have no other way to get better but to go to an institution to get treated because your insanity. Mel Gibson and the director are good actors, as well as Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence, all the actors to be true, it is the only thing I could rescue of the picture but is not enough. Besides, the Latin guy is stupid and irresponsible. The subject is somehow racist and apathetic. Yes, love saves you, but we all know that and there are better ways to say that.
I love Jodie Foster's acting career but she has to improve her reading script skills. Thank you very much
Du jour au lendemain (2006)
Disappointing
I like the Merriam-Webster definition of disappointing: failing to meet expectations, a disappointing meal, for instance. We change our seats to see the new Jennifer Aniston's flick because the seats were to close to the screen and we choose a French comedy instead, expecting some French comedy time. The comedy was not present. The story is non existent and has a lack of imagination that surprises for a French director. The main character is disappointing, Benoît Poelvoorde tries to give some sense to the character and in some moments he manages to do that, but the storyline is dull. But Constance Dollé is showily brilliant, beautiful and sexy, She is the best of the whole story. Disappointing French comedy. Fatalist a little bit like Le Diable Probablement, but without the genius insight of Robert Bresson.
Joey (2004)
Funny funny funny! And it could be funnier with a visit from some friends...
This show is really funny and fresh. I love the situation with the nephew and Joey's agent and I think Drea De Mateo is so hot...! Maybe I need to see some Friends visiting Joe one of this days. Monica and Chandler could pay a visit to see how is Joey doing, Phoebe can arrive by mistake to LA or she can be on a nationwide tour in her grandmother's taxi cab with her songs, Rachel and Ross can surprise everybody with another baby... There are a lot of possibilities to make this show even more delightful... Even ex girlfriends from NY can bring a 22 minutes hell for Joey, ghosts from the past, homesickness for a peculiar restaurant in -you-name-it- NY, or a simple homesickness... Joey is a very versatile character, writers can do magic with him. Or so I hope.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995)
Dubbing of Capt. Janeway's voice in Mexico really sucks!!!!
Ms. Kate Mulgrew has this kind of voice that is sweet and deep, and makes you love the character of Capt. Janeway. In the Mexican version of "Voyager" the dubbed voice of Capt Janeway is HORRIBLE!!!! It's like putting the voice of an alcoholic smoker and a very angry person together. The poor woman that is dubbing Ms. Mulgrew's character of Capt. Janeway, should pay a fine for make such a violent interpretation of Ms. Mulgrew's sweet voice.
I'm not very happy with subtitled versions, but is always better to hear the original language in English and American TV series. There are a few companies that really can subtitle English language, like Centauro Group, and respect the feeling of the idea to communicate. It is always better when you have the option of Stereo Alternative Program. Jennifer Lien's, Kes character was lovely, innocent and charming, too bad she's out. Lt. Torres... maybe is the Klingon half that is so appealing... tough, intelligent and sexy. Thank you very much.
Andromeda (2000)
I don't really know how are they hanging...
I have seen a poll in AXN (part of SONY Entertainment Television) that is the network that screens (by cable) the series in Mexico, and Andromeda is far, by a lot, and I mean a LOT, the favorite SF series in Latin America. I really don't know why. I think the first season is better than the second and the third, the is song better in the first season than the mellow song of the others, and the stories are not cheap. The three seasons got great storyline. The second is not that bad but the third season has too, great storyline, but they are lousy made. I love the series, I think the actors are great, Laura Bertram is beautiful, scary and sexy (a nice combination), Kevin Sorbo strong and wise, Lysa Ryder all blond and sporty kickin' ass all around, Keith Hamilton Cobb big, handsome and deadly but sensitive, he can drop a tear here and there, Lexa Doig... the ship herself, accurate and omniscient, and sexy. Nice characters and nice soil to grow an incredible series but the relation between cause and effect is lame and stupid, the storytelling by the image and the dialogs is not connecting with the core of the story and there is a divorce between the strength of the premise and the center of the stories. There's not a real leadership in the screenplays, and probably the money is not enough for that much Sp/Fx. So the story suffers. Not a choice!!! Star Trek solved this lacks of production with imagination. Is too much very easy to see and if the Producers do not improve the purpose of the Andromeda Ascendant, I feel that it is not going to be a classic like the other Gene Roddenberry's series. I need more conflict, more drama more suspense. That's what I need. Anyway I'm hooked, because the AXN channel 213 in Mexico City's satellite, is screening Andromeda and Enterprise together, and truth to be said, these are my favorite ones. Thank you very much.
Scorchers (1991)
One very nice picture about a father, a daughter, an unusual wedding night problem and some issues about being married.
This picture was a nice surprise. I saw it in 1994 and still can remember the warmth of the language, the smooth narrative timing and the nice feeling of the story. And I'm not taking about James Earl Jones, Faye Dunaway and Denholm Elliot in the local bar (or tavern). Faye Dunaway at her best in years, and all the dialog between Denholm Elliot (the local drunk) and James Earl Jones (the bartender) are delightful. Jennifer Tilly gives an extraordinary performance. The director, David Beaird, has a skill to direct actors. The beginning of the film is also something I remember as exceptional. If you have the chance to see this picture, do it.
