Not Going Out: Wilfred (2023)
Season 13, Episode 8
2/10
Frustrating episode
25 December 2023
Another frustrating episode, which was more like an episode of his other sitcom 'Semi-Detached', basically Lee ruuning about trying to fix a problem he could have solved by just TELLING THE TRUTH. You'll shout at the screen many times, 'Just tell her the truth'. It had a few twists, the main one, you'll guess as soon as it happens.

The dad is stiil rude and obnoxious to Lee, Toby's wife is the same to Toby and the only likeable character is Lucy....... By the end of the show I was as exhausted as Lee and am starting to ask myself, do we need another series? It's now just angry people shouting at each other.

Ted Lasso: The Strings That Bind Us (2023)
Season 3, Episode 7
3/10
The most Contrived episode yet, all realism has gone
28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The previous episode was amazing, and by far the best of this season...... Then this episode dropped, and it's easily the most contrived episide yet.

  • The strings on penis thing would never happen, no human would put up with that in any sport or job.

  • The way they spoke about Total Football was completely wrong, none of them could be a goalie, except the goalie, real football fans must have been shaking their heads in horror.

  • are we meant to believe professional football players didn't know about Total Football and Cruyff? What next? Who's Maradona?

  • Nate's hostess who didnt like him till he became famous is been displayed as a love story. Really?

  • the whole Keeley/Jack relationship is turning creepy, I'm going to say it, the show was better when Keeley wasnt in it last week, her character is now pointless.

-The social media thing strayed a bit too close to their political opinion and no-one wants politics in a sitcom..... especially when it only gives half the facts.

This is the episode where Ted Lasso completely gave up with any form of realism and decided it's all a fantasy world, there's no realism anymore, it's all gone. I now think Richmond will win the league for it's the fantasy ending.

This season needs to get back to 40 minute episodes (the 60 minute episodes are full of flabby relationships with Keeley and Sam that we dont need, we want more Ted, Beard,Rebecca,Roy and Jaimie....

Beyond Paradise: Episode #1.5 (2023)
Season 1, Episode 5
3/10
Awful Awful Awful
6 April 2023
The scenery and Kris Marshall is great, and Sally Bretton is good too. Everything else is awful.

Its a world of strereotypes... The stereotypical fire chief, Police chief who tries and fails to promote 'the strong' DS , the eccentric old person, the idiot policeman, the lecherous male. The assistant who grows to respect the boss, the handsome, but dull, ex-boyfriend.

And the case is predictibly solved by a button, why is there always a button at every crime, and you probably guessed the culprit after 15 minutes too.

Kris Marchall and Sallt Bretton deserve better than this, it's more Doc Martin than Death In Paradise. Even the worst episode of Murder She Wrote is better than this, and the whole IVF storyline is getting boring by now. What a waste.

The Fabelmans (2022)

From Finger on the pulse, to making movies for yourself, to making movies about yourself.
29 January 2023
Spielberg has gone from having his finger on the pulse, to making movies for himself...... and now to making movies about himself. Its sad to see his decline.

Yet another flop from Spielberg, this is what happens when you only make movies for yourself and not the audience. At least his last flop, 'West Side Story', was less dull, even if it was the most needless film ever made. Why repaint the Mona Lisa?

This movie is just one annoying scene after an another, where you end up shouting at the screen. For example the 'chasing the tornado' scene , the 'boys in the theatre' scene, the 'mother dancing in front of the car' scene, and the scene with John Ford were you're screaming, 'the horizon is on the top'.

It's overlong with pointless scenes of Spielberg, I mean Fabelman, editing, sometimes over the never ending piano playing of his mother. I found out later the music was by John Williams, wow, even he's losing his touch.

In this movie we dont have one annoying uncle, we have two. Annoying Uncle one, played by Seth Rogan, who is basically playing himself. The movie has Rogan as the most hilarious uncle in the world, well supposedly, although he doesnt do or say anthing actually funny, but everyone is in stiches at his every word.

Annoying Uncle Two is played by Judd Hirsch, who the moment you see getting out of a car, you know exactly what he's going to do, and he does it, think annoying dad from 'Independence Day' , but with an accent. He must be a shoo-in for the Golden Rasperry.

More scenes of the young Spielberg, I mean Fabelman, making kids movies, and believe it or not, this is a lot duller that it sounds.

The overacting in this film is taken to a new level. Gabriel LaBelle seems to think he's playing the Young Woody Allen, not the young Steven Spielberg. Michelle Williams, who is usually amazing, acts like she's been told to turn the overacting up to 11. And so many scenes are just clumsy and badly conceived.

It seems like the days of Spielberg making entertaing movies that an audience might enjoy are well and truly over. What next 'The Fabelmans 2 : the teenage years'?

Bad Education: Reunion (2022)

The reunion no-one wanted....
31 December 2022
The world's unfunniest comedy, gets a reunion show...... of course no one saw that coming, as it's the World's unfunniest comedy.....The BBC have used all our money, yeah we have to pay for this trash, to continue this abysmal comedy that no-one liked for reasons best known to themselves..... And there's a new series next year....seariously, I knew the BBC were out of touch with reality or with what real humans think, but obviously the liberal left minority at the BBC had deemed this as acceptable comedy, what is wrong with these people... The channel that gave us Fawlty Towers, The Office, Only Fools and Horses and Alan Partrige.... have deeped this rubbish acceptable...and they wonder why people want to get rid of the TV licence?.....sheesh, utter rubbish. Only watch if you like rubbish.

First Season - good ---- Second Season - Drab
12 December 2022
I really enjoyed the first season, I can truly understand why Ben Wishart won his international Emmy, the first episode was the build up to the murder and then we get a mixture of him being in court, and in prison. Con O'Neill also really stood out. But ultimately, really well done (8/10) So I was really looking forward to season 2, until I watched it, but it was a completely different story, with a different cast. This time from a female perspective. And the 2nd series really doesnt like men. All the men are nasty, all the woman are amazing. The first season was a little cliched, especially with the prison scenes, but this one was a cliche of a cliche of a cliche.... (4/10) Watch the firs season, avoid the second.

Rich guy goes on a Millionaires Adventure trip
28 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A spoiled rich psychiatrist with a beautiful girlfriend and unlimited money, flies to China to find out what happiness is (yeah, he's pretty dumb), he flies Business Class and conveniently meets millionaires and influential people who get him out of trouble. He survives being kidnapped because he has a pen, before struggling his way to LA (flying First Class, what a struggle).

He still returns to his millionaire's pad a spoiled rich psychiatrist having learnt nothing, but we all pretend he has as we need this rich-fest movie to end. It turns out the secret of happiness is money and an 'experience holiday' with a lot of money and lucky coincidences, as long as these coincidences include meeting other rich and powerful people.

A movie for rich people to debate their happiness and for poor people to wonder what the beep he's moaning about.

Knives Out has nothing to worry about.
27 November 2022
I wish they'd just filmed The Mousetrack Set in 1953 for no reason apart from to have Agatha Christie appear. Its not bad, just really predictable. The sort of movie where someone says "Whatever next, a caption that says three weeks later?", and you expect to see a caption, and you get it.

Saoirse Ronan plays a very keen, very, very talkative and very, very, very annoying constable.

David Oyelowo, overacts but at least is fun. Sam Rockwell just seems bored.

There's a good chance you'll guess the murderer. An awful ending.

It's less 'Knives Out', and more 'Teaspoons fallen on the floor and kicked under the fridge and left for 3 months'.

Welcome to Wrexham (2022– )

Welcome To The Wrexham Marketing documentry
15 September 2022
This show started fine, but by episode 6 I've given up, it's excruciating.

The Ryan Reynolds and Joe McElhenney bits of buying (and running) the club were good, that should have been the show. And the bits of the players and the games were fine too.

But by Episode 6 there was no football in it at all, this episode was about buying their stadium; and about some guy who tried buying the team years ago that was so bad that some poor woman was crying about how shocking this was. What? Who was she? Some random fan? But they were in her house interviewing her? So not so random?

But there's so little football (and Ryan/Joe) and too many of these random cameo's of fans, set to X-Factor type sob music that drag on, some are so painful I started fast forwarding them by episode 4, which then made these short episodes (25 minutes) even shorter.

It all comes across as some cynical Wrexham marketing exercise, but no one is going to come away from this as a fan, Wrexham come across as just another greedy team trying to buy their way to the Premier League. And anyway why did they buy a fifth tier team?

It's so insulting, the Welsh people were mainly subtitled. And words were translated to 'American' on screen. This was obviously aimed at the American market .

Well Ryan and Joe, your more than welcome to Wrexham.... you made the town look like it was stuck in the 1950's with everyone constantly talking about the past....thank God you're there to save them.

As a show (4 stars) .... as a Wrexham Market video (1 star)

The worse All Or Nothing yet
31 August 2022
Arsenal and Arteta come out of it OK, but it's so annoying to watch... the theme tune is awful, the narration is distracting, the constant clips of pundits giving their 'opinion' is pointless, even the Arsenal fans they interview Pre & Post game are banal in their opinions, and oh my God, does Ian Wright have to appear in every show on British TV?

The scenes with the players and the staff are all mostly interesting, although the canteen scenes appear a little staged..... And does Arteta have to say the F word 20 times an episode? Arteta is the star of this show, at one moment totally sane, then after a poor first half he'll go into a hilarious rant, that works more often than it fails.

...have been, instead of a closing on a meaningless Lady GaGa song (come on dont you know your audience), if it had instead finished with Take My Breath Away on that plane... this movie would have been perfect....

Terrible episode
20 May 2022
The previous episode was a "Rear Window" rip off, now we have a "12 Angry Men" rip off, but the Rear Window episode was better. A bunch of stereotypes holed up in a jury room, all unlikeabe and unbelievable. Where were the jokes?

The standard of the last 2 series has dropped drastically, and this is one of the worst. It's now just a series of people shouting at each other...... .

Bizarre...
14 May 2022
Oh dear..... Just when I thought this episode was cliched, you know, hardened female cop, who the men wont listen to as she's a woman who's smarter than them etc, predictable....but.. It turns it on it's head... so the first half is interesting..... But then they couldnt think of an ending so went bizarre...... A case of overthinking methinks..... more bizarre than good.

Dull.... poor performances
14 April 2022
I've seen the 1980 version and I enjoyed it. Compared to that that version is so dull. Will Poulter has no leading man charisma, Lucy Boynton tries to do Kathleen Hepburn but doesnt have any charm, oh I longed for Francesca Annis. Bobby's friend Badger become a racial stereotype named Knocker (ouch). Oh, and Emma Thompson does some overacting.

Its so dull, go watch the 1980 version, it's also on Britbox.

If you're about to watch this...STOP and go and watch the far superior 1978 Peter Untinov version
10 April 2022
Oh my God, Agatha Christie must be turning in her grave at what Kenneth Branagh has done to her book. Poirot is the only character that's actually in the book, the rest are a bunch or over-acted unlikeable sterotypes.

The movie starts like a scene cut from the 1917 movie, that's right, it starts in a WW1 trench, then years later we meet Poirot in a Dirty Dancing, Twerking club, What?? There he meets 2 American ladies shoe-horned into the story for no good reason, and so we have to listen to one of then screeching bluesy jazz endlessly when they eventually sail along the Nile. No one comes out of this movie well ....Please can someone stop Branagh making Poirot movies?

Unfunny... not surprised it was cancelled.
10 April 2022
I watched the whole series, because I'm a Lee Mack fan.....but the only laugh in the whole series is Lee's moustache. It's just watching a man run from one excrutiating moment to the next. No one comes out of this series well. No wonder it was cancelled after one series.

Is this a Groundhog Day Rip Off?
27 December 2021
Yes, of course it's a Groundhog Day rip-off, only this time, wait for it, there's 2 of them. Well 3 actually.

Apparently in this world, living everyday means you drink beer non-stop (why didn't Bill Murray think of that), be as rude as possible, and do humorless pranks You already know the plot, they hate it at first, try killing themselves, start enjoying themselves and inevitably fall in love, then cheesy ending. You know, just like Groundhog Day.

Andy Samberg here plays a needy Jake Peralta, and Cristin Miloti overacts as Sarah. All predictable but thankfully short.

My advice, go watch the real deal, 'Groundhog Day'

Catherine Tate..... WHY!!!!
26 November 2021
And this is why the original UK office is better than the American Office.

Catherine Tate? Seriously? What were you guys thinking?

OK Michael Scott is gone and you have some nice characters.....but they wouldnt let someone just come in and take over an office, especially the character Nellie......

Ted Lasso Season1 10/10 .. Ted Lasso Season2 4/10 (so far) I'm trying to wrack my brain as to why Season 2 is so disappointing.

Too self righteous? Too woke? Maybe... Too little of Ted Lasso? Too much of the incidental characters?

Not any football at all? Jaimie Tartt too nice? Roy Kent now a caricature?

The show's got from brilliant to average, what a shame.

Season 2 Baptiste....what happened?
10 August 2021
After 2 brilliant series of The Missing and 1 goodish series of Baptiste, Baptiste season 2 happened. It's awful. Terrible acting, awful plot, unlikeable people, even Baptiste isn't likeable. After every episode I swore I wouldn't watch the next, but felt I had to, but I so regret this.

Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Don't watch this, watch The Missing again.

Dumb, Dumb, clichéd and then Dumb again
3 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the future there is a war between aliens and humans; so people from the past are sent to help. If the plot sounds weak and terrible, that's because it is, and did I mention it's dumb?

In the future white men don't really exist, except occasionally in the background. So they send in a white man (Chris Pratt) and his humor-free collection of comic relief characters, you know the types, minor characters drafted in from old TV shows, like 24 and Veep.

And of course then his daughter appears and helps in the future, then back in the past his wife works something out in 30 seconds that scientists couldn't, and his pupil works out something else, then his dad pilots him. You know standard unbelievable things that happen in dumb movies.

There is some real humor, but that's the acting, the special effects and the plot. I did enjoy playing spot the plot hole though.

Avoid this unless you can watch any old rubbish.

Chris Pratt you have so much potential, why waste it on this soon-to-be forgotten nonsense?

Sherlock: The Lying Detective (2017)
Season 4, Episode 2
2/10
99% Bizarre , 1% nice twist
26 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season 4 is easily the worst Sherlock season , and this episode sinks even lower than the first episode.

Where are the Holmes and Watson we love?

Sherlock is now an unlikeable junkie; we know that as he looks all angry and hasn't shaved. Watson is getting over the death of his wife by talking to his dead wife....constantly, and sadly we have to hear her all through the show, which is so distracting. Mary dead is actually more annoying that Mary alive, and that was really annoying. Also Mrs. Hudson gets more lines, and is also just annoying. Basically everything and everyone in this episode is annoying.

When the nurse says Sherlock's blog has gone downhill, we all nodded and thought so has this series.

Sherlock meets his sister twice and didn't recognize her.... What ? Sherlock never had a sister in the books. Making someone up to manufacture a plot twist is just plain lazy. Although the plot twist is the best thing in this episode.

This show is now basically dead, they should have stopped after the excellent first 2 seasons.

Movie length version of BBC 'Crime Traveller' 1997
2 December 2020
180 minutes of torturous, backwards, time travel hokum that Nolan wants us to watch another couple of times to fully get. Well that's the spoiler free plot dealt with. If you watched the 1997 BBC crime time travel drama "Crime Traveller" you know what to expect. I'm a fan of Nolan and enjoy his work, but I think I'll file this under curio. The cast? Well Kenneth Branagh hams it up as himself, but in angry mode while putting on an accent. Michael Caine plays just plays himself, without bothering with an accent. For someone who's never watched "Twilight" I thought Robert Pattinson came across as the most likeable character. The biggest disappointment was our Protagonist, John David Washington, with his cardboard cutout performance. An indestructible, humorless superman. Like James Bond but with literally no personality. It's watchable once, but I personally wont be watching it again like Nolan wants us to, I got all I needed from one viewing.
