The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Why the hate? it was everything it should be!
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel and it is exactly how I'd imagine the story to be.
We all know in Revolutions, Neo had to form an alliance with the machines to save Zion and finally put an end to Smith. So, what did you think would happen afterwards?
Neo is returned to the Matrix and although it is a slow burn to get to the action, it's fine because it builds suspense. You get a feeling everything is not quite right with Neo back in the matrix and the 'balance' the machines are trying to keep. And so, the inevitable happens which is where the action kicks in. There's classic fight scenes, there's the sentinels, there's survivors, pretty everything you'd expect in a Matrix franchise.
I did feel Keanu's portrayal of Neo had suffered somewhat and I just kept seeing John Wick because of the long hair and he dresses the same. It's also a shame Hugo Weaving isnt in it.. it left the doors open for another film and I hope there is!
Kill Switch (2017)
Bored
From the trailer this ticked a lot of boxes, which looked to be a promising sci-fi flick. But sadly after half an hour in, my mind started wondering elsewhere, and after an hour I was hoping it would end soon.
There was very little character building, so those like his sister and her son I didn't care about, or his boss, or the 'rebel' leader guy, not even the main character.
Maybe I need to see it again, but I don't know what role Dan Stevens was playing or why he was working for Alterplex other than he used to be a pilot. It's like they had a loose story-line; An energy company/science experiment tries to create unlimited energy source, it goes wrong, send Dan Stevens to switch it off. The script writers then tried to build it up from there, padding it out with CGI, chase scenes, a few ingredients of other films Demolition Man (underground rebels), Doom (first person shooter) etc
Most of the film is filmed in first person, so you're basically in a video game you have no control over. I don't know why this is, other than to try and be original or clever, to make you feel like you're in the movie, but it fails on every level. The chase scenes tried to be dramatic and tense, but again I just didn't feel it. Maybe if you're an avid video-gamer you might like it, but I can't see any other reason than that.
Star Wars: Revelations (2005)
Diabolical
Sounded interesting, plausible idea, but sadly lacked any merit of an actual Star Wars 'fill in'. You can clearly see that a bunch of star wars conventionists have joined forces to create this farcical 50 minute long drivel. The only thing it has going for it is the CGI, which is on par with the sort of CGI you would expect to see in a PC game dialogue, between levels. The acting is the worst I've seen on the small screen, throw in a few wooden chairs and the film wouldn't have suffered in the least. It was as if the main characters were reading off the Biro marks on the back of their hands with emoticons telling them what sort of expression to pull "Thats. the. bounty. on. my. head. trippled" *Grimmace* Its like a porn style acting but without the porn.. although Cade looks like he should be in one.
You cannot warm to any characters in the film, the Emperor looks like he's piled on the pounds after taking over the galaxy, and glued some green weetabix to his eyebrows in his megalomaniac rage. Taryn Anwar's characters about as believable as Jar Jar Bink's becoming an intellectual and winning some sort of Nobel prize in literature "mesa do doo doo on your head!" Declan looks like he should run a video store on Alderan, knowing off heart all the movies in store of by heart, and have the universes largest collection of Gungan comic books. Cade apart from looking like a failed porn-star could out-scowl the most miffed of people. And finally, Zhanna's got some scary chin issues. Even though its free, its still a waste of 50 minutes of your life, So save your bandwidth and avoid this fanfic. If curiosity is still getting the better of you, watch the first 5 minutes and you'll know what I'm talking about.
