Hancock (2008)
Will Smith's splinter in his HOF career
I'm sorry but this movie was definitely terrible! The story is excellent BUT it doesn't go more in depth with it like it should have! Though the movie does have fantastic graphics some are a little too far and overdue most of the scenes. Will Smith does do a OK job with his character but once again just like the story doesn't go far enough. Theron and Bateman do act their characters nicely and it is a plus that is well deserved. But seriously, there is no question in my mind why this isn't considered a great super hero movie and most likely will NEVER have a sequel (that it so desperately needs with all the storyline holes)! This movie could have been soooo much better and failed at almost every spot and horribly at the spot where it needed it the most...STORY!
Cocoon: The Return (1988)
Good sequel ...just missing a little more
I mainly rated the movie a 7 due to the (once again) excellent acting of the majority of the cast and the strictness of the story to the original. So many movie sequels fail due to lose of the original story but this film extends it nicely! Courtney Cox's addition into the cast (though small) was a good decision. A major problem though is the 3rd story within about David (now much older) and Grandfather Ben, which could be good but they ruin it by not going farther in and just half-heartedly putting it in there. Another large problem is the fact that Ron Howard was not able to direct this film and it shows! Also Welch's performance in this sequel has her character change to that of something you wouldn't recognize to the Kitty in the first film...which totally throws off some of the movie. The ending though couldn't have been done any better and it ends the 2 film series nicely!
Cocoon (1985)
Another Ron Howard Masterpiece!
What a story! The story of this movie is believable and grabs you! The inner concepts are thoroughly shown in the movie and serves as a decent "thinker". Though Guttenberg's performance lacked...Brimley, Dennehy, Ameche, and Welch played their characters flawlessly! Hope and a greater appreciation for life are huge in this film which make it so good. The film leaves you with a great feeling for the future and what lies above us. The quarky comedy throughout does work and actually helps lowering the seriousness of the lives lost to a bearable level for all ages. This could have been an awful wreck but Howard and the actors turn this movie into a grand family classic from the 80's!
Planet of the Apes (1968)
A Sci Fi Classic!!!
To begin with...this movie has an excellent story that should be seen by everyone. Charlton Heston does an amazing job acting out the lost astronaut (Taylor). Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter also do very good jobs with their characters that will set the tone for the rest of the series. I came in to watching this with low expectations, because like so many of my friends my age (18) they believe this to be a terrible movie that goes into an even worse series, but I was HUGELY surprised to find that this movie kept my attention the whole way through! Not only that but it had enough action and dramatization to keep my attention every step of the way. It also qualifies as a great "thinker" movie and ends in a very thoughtful/pessimistic way that works perfectly for the movie...compared to the remake (planet of the apes 2001). I even caught myself thinking about it later in the day. Once its all said and done I found myself wanting the movie to continue! The story, acting, and sheer filming (great job to director: Franklin Schaffner!) of this movie makes it one of a kind and one of the best Sci Fi movies I have EVER seen!!!
