Seven Kings Must Die (2023)
Loved the show...
I loved the show, the scale and the characters, they lived up to the books and I really enjoyed the journey through the stories.
I was disappointed with the film because there wasn't enough of the trademark hand to hand combat for me, I didn't enjoy the ending compared to the books and I felt it was rushed, also took some time to figure out the characters - maybe a flash back would have been a help.
All of that said I have to give Netflix huge credit for picking up the show and taking it forward and then giving it a film to end, it's so often not the case.
I am glad we did get to end the story but I wish is had been a final season!
1923 (2022)
Sheridan does it again!!
I didn't think 1883 could be topped but this is running it close already. It could already be the show of 2023 and we are only in January.
The script, the cast. The story and the breathtaking scenery, as usual, are sublime. The pacing of the episodes leaves you wanting more but equally able to enjoy the moment, several times I had to pause to say "no" or "no way"!
Sheridan has a way of getting you so invested into characters quickly but can be Brutal with them as well.
I can only hope this leads to more seasons or prequels!
The narration from Isabel May is a nice nod to 1883 and Ford & Mirren are perfect for the roles.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
A modern masterpiece
Very rare I give a show a 10, but this simply a great watch with character and plot twists only matched by the brutality that is the backdrop of the US prison system.
Watched the whole season in 5 days and enjoyed every episode. Sheridan once again has another hit series that's a must watch.
Halo (2022)
Had promise but tanked
I was so hyped for this and some of the episodes with the covenant are very well done but and it's a big one.
This isn't the Halo we wanted or hope for, so much time without actual action or covenant, character development that isn't needed or enjoyable.
Chief spends more time helmet off doing the softer side then with it on being the chief.
Some very good moment but there is even an episode in which is basically isn't in it.
I very much doubt the second season can recover it and if it does it has a long way to go /sad.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
The Star Trek we have been waiting for!
Wow, everything is on point the casting, the pace of the show and the scripts.
This is up there with ST TNG which was the Star Trek of my generation, I find myself looking forward to each episode and hope it has a long run.
Pike is a brilliant character and no1 / Spock are both cast very well.
It puts Picard and Discovery to shame as Star Trek finally goes back to its roots!
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Liked being a kid again, Cruise at his best!
The action, the nostalgia and the cast were bang on.
Absolutely loved it and can't actually wait to see it again.
Cruise nails it and the actor playing Rooster is so like the character Goose.
1883 (2021)
Game of Thrones of Westerns
What an absolute jewel this show was, every episode felt like a film. The scripts, acting and casting are all first class.
The attention to detail and the brutality of the west are fantastic, I was so sad as it came to an end because it's very rare to find a series you enjoy so much.
The voiceovers of the Isabel character make the show even more haunting and add to the experience of the show.
This is how "Westerns" should be! Thank to MTV and Paramount for making it.
Reacher (2022)
Great series
Perfect choice for the role, good script and supporting cast.
Great production by Amazon. Looking forward to S2 already!
Those who are saying the films and cruise at better are plain wrong, this is much closer to the books and the character.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Ignore the plot holes, enjoy the film
Reminded of movies from the 90's big budget and action. Don't worry about the plot holes and such just enjoy the action and Chris's Pratt.
A wholesome Sci-fi adventure!
Last Christmas (2019)
A new classic Xmas film
Enjoyable, festive, funny and a great soundtrack.
Will be an Xmas watch for years to come.
Chernobyl (2019)
Haunting, gripping and fantastic
I rarely write reviews but for this show I had to!
The scripts and the acting are fabulous and the way the story is told keeps you hugely engaged even though you already know the ending.
I think it's the best show Sky have been invoked with and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
The Last Ship (2014)
Well worth a watch
I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on this site.
Of course you have to get past the end of the world scenario but thats the same with any program following that possibility.
The Last ship puts a very clever spin on the issue and takes it to sea where the crew face all the usual issues with supplies and infection but are also a trained fighting force.
The combat scenes are well filmed and enjoyable and the series isn't afraid to kill of characters where needed.
The plot of trying to find a cure is a natural one and also adds the list of problems the crew face.
I hope this is renewed for a second season!
