Cheer (2020)
Fantastic look into the athleticism that is competitive cheer
Wow, just as great as the first season of Last Chance U. I laughed, cried and mostly cheered! My daughter was a cheerleader 10 years ago...this is the movie we've all been waiting for
Jack Ryan (2018)
Season 1 was good fun, but Season 2 is horrible
I liked Season 1 even if it was pretty implausible. But Season 2 was very dumb. For some reason the writers completely disregarded actual Venezuelan history and current events while setting their ridiculous plot there. Jack is an avenging idiot, and has absolutely no common sense. Please stop this thing now!!
College Behind Bars (2019)
So powerful
It's amazing to see the transformation of the students here. I'm an educator at a community college, and I wish I had the privilege of having students who are this committed to learning! The single-minded focus on their classwork is astounding, and in my experience virtually impossible to replicate in the "real world". My students have jobs, families, hobbies, hijinks, Netflix and ESPN that they prioritize. The closest I've come to the dedication of these prisoners to pure academic activity was in my PhD program.
The documentary is a little slow, but very well done. It's inspiring and uplifting. Highly recommended
Unbelievable (2019)
Wow so powerful
This is the most powerful, engrossing series I've watched in a very long time. The casting, acting, directing, and writing are all beyond excellent. The story is just heartbreaking...the way the young lady Marie was treated by the horrible Lynnwood WA police. It was almost worse than her rape. But the diligence and persistence of the female detectives was thrilling to watch. The best part was that all the actors looked like real people! No ridiculous CSI female lab techs wearing 4 inch heels in the field and showing cleavage. I almost cried when one plus size actress filled her role perfectly, with her size being completely unimportant to the plot or characterization. Thank you thank you Netflix!!! More like this please.
Skyscraper (2018)
Laugh-worthy
This the dumbest movie I've watched since Rampage but it's fun. There's no tension at all; you know The Rock and his wife will be fine in the end. But there are a few great Die Hard callouts, and hilarious scenes of the Rock achieving immortality! The character has superhuman strength and no weaknesses or flaws so he's not very interesting but it was a fun way to spend an otherwise boring Saturday night.
When They See Us (2019)
So good
This is a must watch. Fabulous acting and story-telling. I only took points off because it did drag in places.
Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)
Totally bizarre and believable
This is a horrifying and unbearably sad story, but the film is so well done. Those who blame these parents are understandably but incorrectly placing the responsibility. The evil man who manipulated and abused this whole family is solely responsible.
None of us want to believe we are vulnerable to manipulation and brainwashing but I believe we all are to some extent. Small town religious folks in the 1970s might be more susceptible, perhaps.
The movie is so well done! My heart goes out to the whole family
Ellen's Game of Games (2017)
Dumbest. Show. Ever
Dumb, mean, and completely fake. So depressing. Ellen seems like she hates doing this show. Please stop
