The Rats steal the scene
24 July 2020
Pointless, shallow, boring. Not many years ago there was a time when the movies were made of gold. The golden age of cinema. Only if you have seen old classic movies you can realize that this movie is nothing but a fraud. Meaningless nonsense. Trying to hide the lack of substance with tech proficiency and uninspired script. But this is not the problem. Anybody can fail. It's human. what is utterly disappointing is that the viewers are not able to have personal opinions. They just follow the hype... Cinema is dead... long live the Hype

War and Peace (1956)

The most difficult thing - but an essential one - is to love Life, to love it even while one suffers, because Life is all ...

What an epic ... what a story ... what a spectacle ... Some would say that it is not true to the Tolstoy's novel but I totally agree. I I read Tolstoy from very young age. My first reading was Tolstoy. This movie is a good example of to adapt Tolstoy novels. Tolstoy sees life as a whole. Actually Tolstoy sees only life. Everything is life. All things are life and that is the subject of his work. The movie is a fabulous piece of cinema: "This film is a summit of visual splendour and its sets, costumes, colour photography, composition and lighting achieve, in every single scene, wonders of artistry, creativity and delicacy that will probably never be equalled. Suffice it to say that it has, among many other treasures, a sunrise duel scene in the snow that still has viewers wondering whether it was shot outdoors or in a studio and that will have them wondering forever." Incomparable to any newer effort to adapt the Tolstoy's work. All the latest mini series are missing completely the magical atmosphere of this oldies classic. If you haven't watch this movie before do not have seconds thoughts. Make yourselves a present. Watch the story of the Rostov family, of Prince Bolkonsky, of Count Pierre Buzhukov into the turbulent period of the Napoleons invasion into Russia. This is a film about War and Peace, love and hate, sacred and unholy, suffering and happiness, faith and forgiveness, beauty and hope ....

don't make them like that anymore ...

Beautiful story developed patiently but rewarding, that takes you on a trip to the Renaissance Parma. The sets are stunning. The actors performance are amazingly balanced, avoiding over-dramatization.

What a beautiful and unpredictable ending yet fully justified. And the most haunting scene of the film at the end, inside the Italian church under the divine melodies of ave maria, the two lovers only looking at each other manage to express the deepest and most intense love .... An epic to not be missed.

Darkest Hour (2017)

political propaganda of the finest quality
2 August 2018
It is not a coincidence that this year we had 2 movies (darkest hour and Dunkirk) referring to this particular period / phase of the WWII when Germans are advancing and English were on the ropes. It is an effort to create an emotional bridging between the today situation of the Brexit with the collapsing Europe under the Nazis at the beginning of the war. I wonder how much desperation is needed to make people believe that movies can change the course of history. In 1940 Germans lost because they went nuts and committed suicide by attacking everyone. Today I cant see why the Germans are doing something crazy and suicidal. On the other hand the English probably should reconsider if the idea of Brexit is promising any good ...

Dunkirk (2017)

sorry mr. Nolan ... you sacrificed your name for a politically commited film

This not a film ... this is a political advertisement to support the Brexit. More than disappointed. I would not like to waste more time for this project. I would never believe that people worked to create such a movie ... Why this pilot who has defeated alone and without fuels the whole fleet of the "enemy" (for some reason the Nazis, Germans etc are not named) handed himself to the "enemy"? He could land on sea and be saved by the rescuing fleet. But this is just a minor detail to this nonsense mess of a film. This only part of the movie that make some sense is the closing credits. This movie should be used by the police as an interrogation technique, although I wonder what crime deserves such a punishment. As an alternative we could send a copy of the movie to space. To guarantee that no extraterrestrials would ever wish to visit us. I don't argue that this movie can be really useful as long as it is kept away from the general public.
