iZombie (2015)
Really funny show with a witty and wacky premise where Rob Thomas brings back some Veronica Mars classic moves
I, as an exception to most TV watchers, have seen Izombie first and Veronica Mars after. I've seen all of Veronica Mars episodes this month, in the past two weeks actually, and now I'm re watching Izombie because I can now really tell how the same producer makes up for a show with a lot of common elements. First of all, we have Liv Moore, a witty, energetic, small, blonde person. She's dedicated and she'll sacrifice herself in order to help others, even if she has to lose her loved ones in the process or engage in star cross lovers type of relationships with on and off moments. Does it ring a bell? Even though she's dead and a doctor, she uses her "special powers" to do police work, without actually being a real cop, defying some of the rules. The show is not as dark as Veronica and really not similar regarding it's tone, which is not noir or teen at all (maybe only regarding its audience). It's much more a comedy than VM ever was and the mysteries aren't as juicy or well structured. But it's still a breath of fresh air, even if the plot sometimes becomes somewhat confusing over the season. And at least, with the new digital streaming helping CW's ratings, Rob Thomas is now having a healthier run with this show, even if it's not a major hit. He did not write the story, as it is based on a graphic novel, but you can see that It has it's mark (as for 90210, he was a developer but you didn't really seen a lot of him in there); Also,at least two actor from Veronica Mars have small roles, including Jason Dohring in the third season. (And Kristen voices a scene);
Veronica Mars: The Bitch Is Back (2007)
Terrible how a great show was canceled without a proper send off episode at least
#SPOILERS#
I've never watched this show before, I've binged it over the past two weeks and it was one of the best teen series I've seen, especially because it was so fundamentally different from all of them. But alas, this show was on before TV's "second golden age" and it was even more common for shows with low ratings to just be left hanging there, without answers or a proper finish, just with the cancellation upon them. This episode is truly great, concerning the unexpected involvement of Jack Kane, and also the last interaction between Veronica and Logan, that proves LoVe was surely gonna return in a future season, as Piz was kind of a side note/nice sweet rebound in the last few episodes, not really a relationship that would trump one with a character that was on every episode since day 1. But, as satisfying as this episode is, it isn't a series finale, it's a season finale, it shows in the way it is constructed, it shows in all of its loose ends, it shows because a lot of things happen in the last 10 minutes, but never enough regarding what needed to happen with the characters, like with Keith mar's future, for instance, that was just left a mystery. (because it would be a theme for the 4th season). This secret society was interesting, and there was so much to know about it, like that crime with the bodies in the shed and so much more....
Even if I'm watching this 10 years after it aired, it's still horrible to see that such an inventive show, especially for 2004, was just canceled like that. I'm glad the movie existed so many years later for some closure. Gonna watch it now.
The Hunger Games (2012)
The Hungry hunger games
******CONTAINS SPOILERS******************
The Hunger games is a movie i've been waiting for with very much excitement and now that I have indeed seen it, it almost seems like there's not much left to do.
It didn't let me down, I think it is a faithful adaptation, is has rising tension, it has dramatic moments and it shows the story well, not leaving holes for things that weren't explained, waiting for people to read it from the book like so many adaptations did in the past.
It shows very well the sacrifice and the suffering from those involved in the game and all the scenes added, regarding president snow and head game-maker, as well as all the scenes in the room where the game is made are very smart and well played. i've read some critics saying that is cuts off the action, taking you away from the games, but I think that it is a nice addition, because being faithful and having a life of its own is a rare thing that comes in this movie. Making three apart from each other worlds was actually a winning situation as well, doing the district 12, the capitol and the games, was a hard task, done very gracefully in my opinion. But it ha flops as well, it's not free of bad aspects, but they are not to destroy the movie experience as a whole. First, I have to say that the camera is really to shaky. It has been mentioned and it is true, sometimes you barely can understand what's going on, you just know someone is getting killed as the canon makes its terribly frightening sound. One other thing, the killings are emotionally hard, rue's scene in particular, but I do think that an R rating would help the movie, giving as even more dramatic look to the games, because the careers looked to much like the gang from "mean girls",not really people killing each other. Before they were reduced, they were all too happy and hysterical for what was going on, maybe they should be a little more restrained. The part where katniss gets a bad burn is very simplified.....she almost dies without water in the books, it's much more suffered. Overall, the dramatic part could be even bigger and grander with a R rating. And for the last thing, being outside of Katniss head is a plus for most of the movie, as I said before, even as well as Katniss and Peeta have been cast ( great performances really) this part of the story suffers from leaving her mind.
It's hard to understand her motivations, it's hard to know if she likes Peeta or not. Katniss turns out to look a lot softer than in the book, being all fuzzy about Peeta and looking too honest, never mistrusting him like it happens in the book. It's hard to follow this, and some critics have said that they didn't understand how she went from hitting him to kissing him so much, so I believe this part needed a little more explanation.
Also Peeta turns out to be a little too cheesy about Katniss, not that he is not in the book, he is, but it looks like all his character is in the movie is a crazy lover stalker, and the pacifist,ironic,sensitive Peeta gets a little cut out, because this movie is all about Katniss- centralism, even the part where the score before the games begins is different and makes Katniss stand out in the points more than Peeta and his pacifist drawings get cut out. But apart from that "the hunger games" is a great experience, well- paced, thrilling, touching - it has all that counts to become a great hit, no matter what Hipters non-sense negative propaganda is going on about it, comparing it to Twilight ( yeah, because the love triangle occupies five minutes of the movie
makes sense) or saying it is a rip off from Battle Royale ( a bloody Japanese movie about a secret operation, so secret as a television reality show),go see it with an open mind and take your conclusions ! AND MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR.
