Fun action film, great dialogue
12 May 2019
This film is not to be taken too seriously. There are plot holes, cheesy and dated special effects, and several moments where you just shake your head wondering what the director was thinking. But despite those things it has some very well thought out and executed action scenes, where they went the extra mile to make it look cool (shotgun fired at a fridge door, bad guy on fire dangling from a string of lights, etc.). Great lines from Sam Jackson, surely improvised. Genna Davis pulls off the dual personality with style. Many laugh out loud moments, whether they were intended or not. A fun film overall.

Bullet Head (2017)

Watchable, but by no means good
7 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is something you watch on Netflix when there's nothing else interesting that you haven't already seen. Criminals vs a sometimes CG dog in a warehouse. Adrien Brody's character is pretty lifeless until the third act where he redeems himself and pulls off the best performance of the cast. Antonio Banderas while menacing is a one dimensional character who could have been explored further. Malkovich was Malkovich, a watered down version. Culkin was useless. His flashback story was pretty good though. Some decent suspenseful scenes between Brody and the dog. Overall a watchable film to pass the time but not terribly enjoyable or memorable.

Priest (2011)

Entertaining but not emotive
16 June 2013
The film has a few things going for it, interesting concept, cool visuals, and Paul Bettany. But the rest of the cast including the villain Karl Urban were just dreadful. I didn't feel anything while watching this film, and did not care for any of the characters. It seems as though Hollywood just pumped this one out to jump on the vampire bandwagon and rake in a few bucks. Like so many films in the genre, the focus is solely on action and visual effects, without much attention paid to character or plot development. I was mildly entertained, and by no means bored while watching it. But I could have turned it off halfway through and would have cared less about how it played out. A better script, supporting cast, and director could have helped make this a great sci-fi film, but instead we get mediocrity.

Prometheus (I) (2012)
9/10
Visually stunning Sci-Fi
16 June 2013
Prometheus is set in the same "universe" as the Alien films, but does not have the same atmosphere. Alien and Aliens are in the top 10 sci-fi films of all time, but can also fit into the horror genre. They were suspenseful edge of your seat movies, making you afraid to see what was around the next corner. The same cannot be said for Prometheus, but it does somewhat make up for it with some stunning visuals that the Alien films cannot even remotely compete with. This is definitely a Ridley Scott epic, and lives up to the director's reputation. Michael Fassbender was brilliant, unfortunately he was not the lead. Poor Noomi wasn't up to the task, but some decent support characters including Charlize Theron and Idris Elba help round it out. Overall this is a great film, and quite entertaining. The minor plot holes can be overlooked, hoping things will be cleared up in the sequel(with Fassbender in the lead).

Alexander (2004)
5/10
Had potential, but ultimately a big disappointment
30 April 2005
When a film has Oliver Stone's name attached to it is released, you think of Platoon, Wall Street, Born on the 4th of July, JFK, all great films. So considering the hype that preceded Alexander you'd expect it to be a great epic film in the same category as Braveheart, or Gladiator. Unfortunately despite the strong cast, they ended up giving poor performances, seeming wooden and unnatural (with 2 exceptions). I'm no big Colin Farrel fan, but I must say his performance was the one thing that kept me going through this very long (too long) film. As well as Val Kilmer in the first quarter of the film (one of his best performances).

The big disappointments are from Angelina Jolie who seemed to be trying too hard to achieve a character which was flawed to begin with. The dialogue coming from her seemed like something from a fantasy novel, not a historical epic. And what was with that phony accent?

Anthony Hopkins must have given one of the most boring performances of his career. I must say I was on the verge of falling asleep at the end of the film wondering when he would just shut up(Poor Anthony how did he get himself mixed up in this debacle).

Jared Leto's character was just pathetic, he seemed to have no backbone at all, its no wonder he didn't die in the first battle in the film. Most of the film just featured him standing around with a smirk on his face and he hardly had any dialogue. His death scene was horrendous.

Overall at the end of this drawn out film I felt as if I had wasted my time and money. Don't waste yours.

Dont waste your time or money!

Warning: Spoilers
Of the movies I've seen in 2003, this is definately the worst. Here are some serious problems with the film.

Some minor spoilers here!

1.Why are all the animals running together? Instead of animals fleeing from random areas in the forest, we see cougars, deer and rabbits all running together in a herd right past the front of the cabin in the woods. Now I'm not going to explain why that doesn't make any sense, I'm sure you can figure that out. 2.The little worm-like CG alien looks like something straight out of a saturday morning cartoon. 3.DUDITZ the mentally challenged guy with cancer who is actually a very health alien. 4. The entire scene with the protagonist and Tom Sizemore in the pickup truck. Wait let me read my friends minds, a power I just instantly realized that I had! Oh no! It's not my friend, it's the alien inside my friend with a a cheesy british accent also from a saturday morning cartoon.

Need I continue.....

Why Morgan Freeman, Tom Sizemore and Jason Lee agreed to take parts in this movie is beyond me.

Trust me and dont' waste your time on this one. 2/10

If they were real, this is how it would be!
15 December 2003
This is one amazing film. Anne Rice's character's are brought to life by brilliant performances across the board. Tom Cruise portrays Lestat in an utterly chilling fashion. Brad Pitt plays the lonely, morbid Louie in one of his best performances of his career. A young Kirsten Dunst does an amazing job of mimicking the character of Claudia, a child turned into a vampire as a gift from Lestat to Louie. If there were really vampires, this is how it would be. None of those cheesy myths about garlic and crucifixes here! Though Neil Jordan is not the greatest director, a more than stellar cast (also including Christian Slater, Antonio Banderas, and Stephen Rhea) pulls this movie together and makes it the most truly unforgettable vampire movie ever. Note to readers, this film is definately more drama than horror, and if you've ever read an Anne Rice novel you know what I mean. Enjoy! 10/10
