Kill or Be Killed (1976)
Plot Mixup
jake-179 got the plot mixed up. The plot He described, was for "Kill and Kill Again", the sequel which also starred James Ryan. Jake was right that it is similar to "Enter The Dragon". Both films bore that resemblance very loosely. I liked both "Kill or be killed" and "KIll and Kill again" I just purchased them on VHS, on Ebay, within the last week.
I first saw "Kill or Be Killed" on a cable TV (Showtime Channel) martial arts movie marathon, along with "Enter the Dragon" for the first time, in 1981. Since then, I have been more interested in the martial arts. I recommend this movie and it's sequel, in spite of the cheesy acting. Chico, the midget was hilarious!
Rockwell (1994)
Joseph Smith did NOT have gray hair!
I am not one to brag much. But I feel the urge to share the fact that my mother Linda Gilbert(At the time) played Mary Neff's mother. She is in quite a few scenes, like the one where she catches Rockwell and Mary pulling each other in to the pond and playing and shooting them a stern look.
The portrayal of Joseph Smith was unbelievable. I don't recall Joseph having Gray hair at the time of his martyrdom/murder! So why did they cast an actor with Gray hair? I heard from my mother(uncredited in IMDb listing of Rockwell) that Shantal Hyatt/Hiatt who played the adult Mary Neff was difficult to work with and didn't like Randy Gleave. She acted so well, that she sure fooled me!
Stanley (1972)
"Those are not real snakes!"
Not all the snakes they used in the movie were poisonous. There were Rat snakes, Black Pilot Snakes and Pythons. But the sound effects editor threw in rattling sounds while showing the non-poisonous snakes. How cheesy is that! Those same kind of snakes were referred to as "Water Mocassins" when Tim threw them into Thompkin's swimming pool. What really amazes me is that "Stanley" actually had a trainer! How do you tame or train a rattlesnake? As corny as this movie was, it is still a bit entertaining! Especially the way Alex Rocco's face and posture is frozen before he dives into his pool filled with "Water Moccasins"!That was hilarious!
Sssssss (1973)
Ssssssso the acting may have been mediocre, but the snakes were the real S-s-s-s-stars!
I first saw this when I was 8 or 9. I already had a fascination for, and a fear of snakes. But this movie (Along with "Stanley") increased both the fear and the fascination, for me! I think cobras are the coolest of any snakes, deadly as they are!
I agree somewhat with the other comments, that some of the acting ranged from mediocre to downright lame! But whether you love or hate snakes, wouldn't you agree that the snakes in this movie are/were more exciting to watch than the human actors? They were, for me! As cheesy as the acting was, otherwise, I still recommend this movie. Especially if you like to watch venomous snakes and specifically, King Cobras!
I can't believe I sold my VHS copy of this movie at a pawn shop! I miss this movie!
Fist of Fear, Touch of Death (1980)
Fist of Phooey, Touch of absolute stupidity!!!
I saw part of this movie, before, where I used to work. It looked phony. Like a curious moron, I got the dvd at borders. What a mistake! That martial artist, Aaron Banks is so full of sh*t with his theories on Bruce Lee dying from Dim Mak, the touch of death. They didn't have me fooled for one second when they made it look like he conversed with Bruce Lee. I could tell those were clips from his show, Longstreet, dubbed over. This movie also sucked because of their portraying Bruce as a child(from his earlier films)and made his voice sound like a total wussy. His father didn't even look like that in reality! I wasted about $8 in Borders gift cards on this piece of junk. On the lighter side, it would make great satire material for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 type show! I would call it "Kung Fui Theater"(Kung Phooey).
