Curb Your Enthusiasm: Atlanta (2024)
It feels like a chore.
Remember the first seasons, where you could see the character that was the origin of George Costanza in Seinfeld? Well, he's gone. He grew into an old man who lost connection with his peers, forgot his natural flow and became insecure. Larry tries to hard to act like the man he was and I just feel sorry for him. Is he doing this because of the obligations/responsibility he feels for the crew? I don't know but I would respect it if he gave up on this, definitely not a career ending he imagined.
Of course it's not nice to judge a season on his first episode but the observation is too blatant to ignore.
Nope (2022)
Oh wauw. What a feast for your eyes and mind!
Is a horror movie like you've never seen before. I'm watching it for the third time now to see and understand all the layers and subtle hints to complete the picture. Don't expect an easy slasher or demon and you'll be amazed. A true enjoyment from my end. Peele gives you a story that needs a richness that you will only achieve by gaining more views. The people that are not up to that will rate it down. I'm happy that Jordan is from my generation so a lot more is coming our way!! I've nothing more to add so I hope this is over the minimum characters...apparently not but hey, I can give you a recipe for some awful Dutch green pea soup. With smoked sausage, you Dutchies know what I'm talking about!!
Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story (2022)
What a mess.
The first part is claiming to tell you "The making of...(the monster), but it's just a non-chronological mess. All old images without a timeline or making clear why it is shown. That's not what we need, the viewer needs a build-up, a framework of the guy. Like they did on O. J. Simpson.
I think the whole doc is as foggy as Jimmy was answering personal questions.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
Del Toro is the lipstick.
Yes, Guillermo gives us a beautiful world in where we can fantasize magical stories but Cooper has no part in it. His mumbling and bland acting shows us that Del Toro is a cinematographic genius but misses the ability to give us a great storyteller. I've no idea what went wrong and who chose Cooper to play this part but if this gets an Oscar for anything else than cinematography I'll be left with a sour taste in my mouth.
American Siege (2021)
Don't give Bruce such a hard time.
Sure, 90% of his movies suck nowadays. But consider this: he is giving his name and skill to young and inexperienced directors to get into the spotlight and learn. He's not bothering with career and ego, his bank account is filled and if he needs it he'll do some commercials. No, he's been taking less pay and the risk of being burned to give the less successful a shot, also the new b or c actors. Give the man some credit.
Ad Astra (2019)
If you like dreamy images, go for it.
It reminds me of Bladerunner 2049. Although Denis his cinematography is unprecedented this movie has some top notch CGI and wandering thoughts. Don't watch it for the story, because -to be frank- there isn't one. After 3 viewings I've still no idea what the point is of his fathers actions and mission. And the whole trip is uncredible to say the least. But the images are amazing so I'm going to watch it a fourth time.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Just enjoy the view.
I liked the movie like I liked The Fifth Element, Blade Runner 2049 and the original, Back to the Future 2 or even that Prince Valerian movie. I just like the thoughts about the future and all the CGI. The cyborg wizardry, the food, the traffic, the commercials in the streets, the clothing. Just relax and search for the little derails.
Tenet (2020)
Pretentious
I had to think a while after the movie and wondered if and when I would see him again. Because apparently that is needed to fully comprehend it. Then it struck me, why would I? Is this like those 3d pictures from the 90's where you had to squint and alter your brain to finally reach the new dimension and enjoy the view? No, it is needed to understand the superb intelligence that must be in the writing. Well no, that's not the way I like to watch movies, sometimes I accept that (Memento was definitely better the second time) but in this case it's just pretentious. What even is this movie but a lot of great action sequences ofcourse but the protagonist has no depth, feelings, history or even a name? What is even the role of the princess in distress? And the editing is messed up just to keep you confused because that will only make sense after the third viewing. And way to go with blasting the music over the voices because why would you want to hear the actors. Pretentious pretentious pretentious. Nolan wants you to feel inadequate to comprehend his baby.
Family Guy: Pawtucket Pat (2020)
What happened to FM?
Seriously, almost all of S19 is bad to mediocre at best. Have they hired new writers, has Seth a side hussle that takes up all of his time? It feels a bit like South Park which went downhill 3 seasons ago. It makes me sad.
2067 (2020)
Boring
It's really simple. If you hear the same monotonous 'music' throughout the entire movie you know it sucks. They are just stretching scenes with hollow melodramatic views and that drone noise. Somehow it's not so bad to really flunk because the CGI is good enough and you will keep on watching but the plotholes are big enough to not recommend this movie to anyone. They should've kept this a Dust short.
Unorthodox (2020)
Poorly written and acted.
The writing feels very inexperienced and awkward. Some dialogues hit a brick wall right from the start, and the story is just unbelievable. I mean, sure she takes a plane to Berlin, and then just makes a group of friends who don't question anything all the while she's being shy and defensive. Did the writer ever make friends him/herself? And the whole encounter after her night in the conservatorium with the teacher in the hallway. Cringeworthy to say the least.
Norm Macdonald Has a Show (2018)
Not worh it.
I'm 4 shows in now and it is really getting on my nerves. The pacing is off, Norm is chaotic and unstructured and considers himself more important than his guests. The sidekick really has no purpose and it all sounds like he is forced upon Norm. The whole stumbling through the conversations is the reason Letterman really left, as he is a true interview craftsman.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Pacing and dialogue.
Yes, the production value is high, sets are well thought out and the cgi is believeable. But the dialogue and pacing is just cringe worthy. A character like Klaus is over acted and just not realistic. I watched the whole series and always had the feeling that I was looking at a rehearsel of stand-ins.
Final Space (2018)
Shallow and boring characters
Please, disregard every 10/10 review here as they are definitely paid for. After 5 episodes I couldn't even find a chuckle. It is strange that although the production value is obviously big there is not a shard of original writing there. The main characters are trying to compensate for the boring writing with over the top voice acting. That they even try to compare themselves with the likes of Rick and Morty is disgusting and they should feel ashamed for it.
