Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
WOKE zombie movie
Ok Cmon, when are are going to get another real Marvel movie again? I am tired of the in your face Woke agenda in every movie. They INSERT it on purpose. Can they try to have it like the comics? I go to see Dr. Strange fight the enemy, not have some 14 year old chick fight another chick. Dumb. Watch the walking dead. At least you know you are watching zombies when you tune in.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Story can be told in 9 minutes. BOORING
Watch this movie at your own risk...of falling asleep.
It took 3 tries to get to the end of this movie. The ONLY reasons I stuck this out is because of the cast. Last time I do that again. 1 star is for scenery, 1 star is for actors, 1 star is for genre, 1 star is a pity star. 0 stars for plot, suspense, action, drama, or anything else you can think of that would make a movie watchable. Too bad because I love the cast. I wouldnt watch this again if it was the only movie left on the planet. Do something constructive with your time that is better than this. Watch paint dry or something.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Did I miss a plot?
I really really really wanted to like this movie until about 3/4 of the way through. Then I thought..What is the point of pretending? This movie has a plot that could be wrapped up in 30 minutes but could understandably be told in 90 minutes. Why did they need close to 3 hours? To bore the pants off everyone unless you like to watch great actors perform about nothing. Dont get me wrong...The acting was amazing by everyone. Too bad they didnt have a story to tell. It could have been really good otherwise. They didnt even need DiCaprio the majority of the movie. Brad Pitt had all the meat and potatoes of the story. Too much film was used off the cutting floor which is where it should have stayed. Too bad because i wanted to love it too.
The Kindergarten Teacher (2018)
Time is valuable. Dont waste it watching this bore fest.
After about an hour into the movie I was wondering if there was a story that was going to be told. When I can explain the whole film in 1 sentence, that is not a story. Selfish obsessed teacher puts 5 year old on pedestal. I was irritated that I was watching nothing through this film. I like Maggie G. as an actress but she will not win any awards for this. She is stoic most of the movie which anyone can do. Not many dynamic interactions with other characters. Too bad because I was hoping for more from the story and from the actors. I was left at the end thinking I just wasted my time. Movie brought out no emotion, no story and if anyone rates this movie an 8 or higher apparently likes a lot of boring films. Good thing it was on Netflix or I would have felt ripped off paying for it directly. Save some time and watch about 1000 any other movies.
Tully (2018)
BOOOOOOORRRRING
If you can get by the nothingness that takes place for the first 95 percent of the film, you eventually will get a surprise plot treat in the last 5 minutes. But sorry that 5 minutes does not take away the pain of sitting through this boring hour and a half. I can sum up this movie in 2 sentences. But if you want to waste your hard earned dollars for a uncomfortable 90 minute nap, then so be it. Out of all the movies out in the theaters, I cant believe people give this a high rating based on the "twist". Acting was great, but that was about it. I have 3 children of my own and my wife and I have been through a lot. I go to movies to get away from that, not to relive it. Pass!
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Why didnt this win an Oscar???
This is a movie that I dare you to watch once. WOW. I had this near the bottom of my list. I am not really into musicals but the story interested me. I was going to watch it for about 10 minutes and then before I knew it the credits were rolling and I felt so much joy that I had to rate this a 10. Not many movies nowadays can bring you joy or make you think of your childhood, but this movie did just that. This is the picture of the year. Shame on critics for downplaying a really great movie. The music is truly addicting and now I have to get the soundtrack. I want to know more about PT Barnum that now I want the book. See what this movie has done to me? If a movie can do this to someone, then I cant rate it any lower on my scale. GO SEE IT and BRING THE FAMILY!!!
The Shape of Water (2017)
This is the best picture that the academy can come up with?
I watch over 250 movies a year. I rate them all. I have a very detailed rating system and when I watched the trailer I was intrigued. I think Michael Shannon is a great actor and the rest of the cast seemed good too. Unfortunately I sat through a creature from the black lagoon movie from the 50's with a horrible 2 bit costume. I cannot believe how outrageous and over the top the silliness of this movie is. This is what the academy thinks is best picture? I read the reviews on this site and a lot of reviews are people giving this movie top scores because the director or some interpretation that not everyone gets or cares to get. If have to watch a movie to spin it a certain way for others, then it is an unwatchable movie. Any movie that wins best picture in mind should appeal to all demographics. The young and old should walk out of the theater, look at each other and say "wow that was great". If you walk out the theater and some people say "yeah that was great because it represents...", and the other half walk out feeling they were just robbed out of $12 bucks, then it should not win best picture. Yet another travesty for the academy. Too bad the general public does not give out the oscar. If we did, then this movie would not even nominated for anything but a over the top cheesy B movie. Extremely disappointed...AGAIN. Thanks academy for another joke you delivered on Oscar night.
Elle (2016)
This is a joke of a movie
I cant believe I actually sat through and watched the whole movie. I watch about 200 movies a year and this is down the list far. Looked like a good thriller, but turned out this movie is a far fetched joke of a flick. The acting was subpar and the writing was baffling. OK SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
A woman that likes being raped? Really? And if you buy that piece of crap, then how about a woman that likes being beaten and injured? Really? I have no idea how people can rate this movie at a 7. AVOID at all costs.
Wakefield (2016)
You will love this...If you like to watch paint dry.
Had high hopes for this one. Love Bryan Cranston as an actor, but lets be realistic. Anyone can do voice overs and then play the part of a guy sitting in an attic for a year. Don't watch this movie after 8pm. You might actually think you are 90 years old and fall asleep. This movie offers a lot of nothing. If you like the movie PHONE BOOTH, then this movie might be for you. When I watch a movie, I like a few things. One of the things that is on the top of my list is a plot. You know....the part of the movie that tells a story. Don't get me wrong. This movie had a plot. A bad one! Just read the summary of the movie before you watch it and then watch something else since you just told yourself what the movie was about. Sad that some true stories will get pushed off to the side in Hollywood, but this one sticks. I hope some people take my advice in this review, because i would like to salvage some of your Friday nights when starting to watch a movie.
Christine (2016)
Wow
Can a movie be more boring, that drags you on for 2 hours with nothing happening....And then bam! A good ending happened. I was confused trying to rate this because I liked the end and know that this was a true story but it was told in such a long drawn out boring tone that it really was a waste of time. If you want to watch a movie about a boring women that does nothing with her life then watch this. If I had to watch this all over again, I would pass. My 6 rating encompassed the acting which I thought was good, the end which was good, the realism since it was a true story and that is it. Watch the first 15 minutes, leave the room for the next hour and then come back. This would make for a terrific short story of like 30 minutes. That's it. Nothing less, nothing more.
Wonder Woman (2017)
For a superhero movie fan...this is not good
Why did I give this movie a 6 when I said it isn't good? Because parts of it were generally entertaining. Wonder woman is some nice eye candy, and the origin was interesting. Now the bad. Acting was bad. They should of paired down this movie to 90 minutes and removed some of the silly dialog that Gadot was saying. Some of the special effects were cheesy and looks like DC movies might be in trouble. This was tough to get through....even with my 12 year old son. I used to collect comic books and watch ALL the superhero movies. And out of all the Superhero movies I rated, this is above only a few (Green Lantern) being one of them. After 5 years of ratings, this fake 7.9 rating which stands today will drop to a solid 6. All in all....this movie is entertaining for a 10-16 year old and then it drops off from there. If you do watch this movie and ignore this review, enjoy the boredom and cheesy acting.
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016)
YAWN! and bad acting
If people want to see a real war movie about heroes, watch Hacksaw Ridge. Billys long walk was a long yawn of a movie. First off I thought that casting was sub par. The acting was not good either. How can people really take vin diesel seriously after the popcorn action crap he appears in. Granted those are fun action movies but when there is a serious picture, they should leave him out. Now the story. The whole movie is based on him recalling bit memories while in a football stadium? Really? Then he has the supposed deep connection with a cheerleader he met for 10 minutes??? I mean Cmon folks any soldier or person that served in the military will treat this as a joke. A guy getting a sleeper hold while watching the game and nothing happens?? Oh OK. Yeah that could happen. Or how about the military men coming back and already offered a movie picture day 1 at the stadium? Sure....the fight at the end with the military guy shooting a gun to stop the fight and it just ends? What no police are called? OK. Just more cheese and less plot. What I did enjoy was the flashbacks of the Iraq scenes and that was it. Don't waste you time. Watch Hacksaw Ridge to watch a true hero's movie with a lot less cheese!
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Must Watch for 2016!
This movie was riveting from beginning to end. I watch over 150 movies every year and rate them all. I only gave out 4 tens this year with this being one of them. As far as war movies go, this has it all. It might be my absolute favorite but if not it is in my top 5 all time. Acting was terrific, directing was terrific (congrats to Mel Gibson), and to think this was a true story that was never told on the big screen is amazing.
There were no "dead" spots in the movie. It is engaging to the audience from beginning to end. It has a re-watch factor and will not lose anything.
For anyone that like war movies, this is the one to watch. For anyone that like true stories, this is also the one. I is heart wrenching, emotional on all levels and show America in a time of conflict what a true hero is. When my son grows up, and asks me what a hero is, I will show him this movie and show him about the men in this picture. Not just one man, but several.
Must See!!
The Revenant (2015)
Wow! A great movie to finish the year with.
So when is DiCaprio going to win an Oscar already? This guy puts his heart and soul into every movie and he sure knows how to pick them. This is a movie that has a lot of heart and was terrific from start to finish. Tom Hardy also was terrific in this one. From the start I was riveted. If I didn't know this story was true I don't know how vested I would be in this, but knowing this story really happened it made the movie incredible. The camera work was brilliant and the CGI was tremendous in a great bear scene that will be talked about going forward. Don't miss this one if you can help it. This is about a man who overcomes adversity over and over again. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because 20 minutes could have been trimmed, but that about it. It is a must watch so get your popcorn and be amazed at the how this man lived in the 1830's and what he went through in a compelling story with great actors.
Creed (2015)
Cookie cutter stamp makes this a must miss!
So if you saw the first Rocky movie, don't see this one. First, I would like to say I am a huge Rocky fan. Saw every movie multiple times, but this one was a cookie cutter of the first one with lazy writing. I predicted the entire movie, including the rounds fought, when the girlfriend comes back in, and of course the end. I was dying to see this movie thinking some creativity was going to be brought back into the mix. Boy was I wrong. I wanted to love this movie as I like Stallone and the other actors, but the predictability was the worst I have witnessed in years of movies. Why bother? There was one thing different I must say though...The audio in the ring scenes. I mean in all the Rocky movies the announcers voice is heard throughout the arena. Not this movie. It is like they are doing an audio recording in an office with the door closed. No echo or anything. I know I am nitpicking on that one but this is how the movie is. I was so bored predicting the entire film that I had to pick apart other things bothering me. Skip this one and go back and watch the great classic that you loved. Lazy writers in Hollywood continue with their hard work apparently.
