Saltburn (2023)

Entertaining little movie
31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Saltburnis a visually stunning piece, showcasing meticulous attention to aesthetics. The narrative, while intriguing, follows a familiar path akin to "The Talented Mr. Ripley." However, the film takes an unexpected turn with controversial and disturbing scenes that appear disconnected from the plot, seemingly inserted for shock value. These moments feel forced, leaving one to question their necessity and correlation with the overarching story.

Despite the film's undeniable visual appeal and a compelling narrative, the inclusion of these shocking scenes raises concerns about their intent. It appears more a ploy for attention than a genuine exploration of societal norms, potentially alienating younger or conservative audiences.

The end of the movie looks also disconneted from the rest and leae us with several question marks. In essence, while Saltburn has its merits, the discordant elements prevent it from fully justifying the hype.

Great war movie
23 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I did not see the classic made in 1930. However I loved this movie. It offers a stark portrayal of the First World War and its impact on the lives of young soldiers. The narrative follows a group of German schoolboys who eagerly enlist in the army, fueled by a sense of patriotism and adventure. One of the film's greatest strengths lies in its ability to capture the psychological toll of war and how it changes the characters. The final attack requested from the general summarize the futility of the war better than anything else. Loved also the direction and the picture. I would show it to all the teenagers while they study the first world war at school.

Even better than the first serie
3 July 2023
The first serie was very cool and it set high expectations but ZeroCalcare has been able to exceed them. There is definitely a political aspect however, beyond that, there is much more. The stories of Zero and his friends are an excellent picture of the society and its contradictions which generate hate and social tensions. It is not an easy topic but he never slips into the essay, the stereotypes, the boredom, etc. This is remarkable. On top you have a lot of funny moments which burst laugh few seconds before an emotional moment. All together supported by an amazing soundtrack composed by original tunes, classic rock/pop songs and hidden gems.

Form > Content
25 May 2023
In the eternal debate between content vs form, this movie is a great example of the importance of the form. I mean, the subject is very boring everyone knows the story however marketing and business meetings have never been so interesting. The writing contains a couple of good speeches which never happen in real life but they help you to reflect. The actors worked on the true carachters and made a good job to represent them. The director, Ben Affleck, made a very good job and produced a good 2h entertainment product that everyone can enjoy. It does not matter if you are the only person in the world who never heard about Air Jordan or not.

Cozy like a fireplace in a costwolds' pub
13 February 2023
This show is brilliant. It is well written, fun, clever and full of lovely moments. For example, the episode of the funeral contains a wide range of emotions and touch them very gently. At the end of I recognised that they know what to do. Around Ted Lasso there is a universe of superb characters: well rounded with different aspects and ready to surprise you each episode. The performances of the cast is very good. I did not know majority of the actors/actresses and I loved them. It is a very british show, in a good way. IMHO this show is one of the best series that I have seen in the last few years.

I was lucky
7 January 2023
I did not know this story. It is very powerful and deserves to be told. I really enjoyed the performance of the Mardinis and I was glad to learn that they are sisters also in real life. Before watching it, you should consider that It is not an easy movie: a couple of times it is like a punch in the stomach. However I strongly recommend the vision. It is not easy to find a film on this subject that does not fall into stereotypes. The movie achieve its goal well and it helps you to exercise the empathy muscle. Several times I thought that I was very lucky to be born in a certain part of the world.

Gold for Therapists
14 December 2021
There are so many "weird" behaviours in these story that I was astonished.

Even if MJ was not guilty, the stories are incredible and it is worth to watch.

If the stories are true, the documentary tells you how it can be hard to recover from a trauma

In any case, This documentary is gold for therapists.
