The Menu (2022)
All fluff, no substance just like the pretentious restaurant.
One of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. The plot is thinner than the puffed air the restaurant is serving. Don't expect any sound reasoning for anything happening in the movie, they want you to suspend belief so far beyond ridiculous, my eyes were rolled the entire second half of the movie. Not really a horror movie like some people think, more like a failed suspense/satire. So much hype for this bs for what? This movie is the Dr. Sunshine movie that The Chef hates so much himself. This is the kind of movie that makes me not want to watch movies anymore. So glad I didn't pay to watch it in the theatre and watched it on HBO. Huge waste of time.
The Tunnel: Episode #3.6 (2018)
Watching this in 2021 and the writer/producer has made one show since this series because it makes no sense!
Series 3 is not the same writer/producer as series 1 & 2.
The writer/producer, Emilia di Girolamo took this amazing series, smashed it on the ground and took a sheet on it, completely ruined it. She is lucky the actors are so amazing and pulled off the emotional aspects of her sheety writing.
Somehow a twenty something year old regular joe and a middle aged refugee living in a caravan is an expert hacker hacking into people's computers/accounts; a master kidnapper able to kidnap nearly twenty people; can make a complicated explosive device with remote detonation; and apparently also an animator able to make a whole animation sequence embedded with a secret message to tell the police what to do.
Watching this in 2021 and so glad series 3 writer/producer Emilia di Girolamo isn't terribly busy making TV shows because she is terrible at it!
9-1-1: Lone Star: Saving Grace (2021)
What a beautiful love story!
I really enjoyed this backstory of Grace & Judd. I thought it was very well written. It was tragically romantic, amusing, and very fitting for their characters' personalities. So much story in one episode! I loved it!
Shameless: Father Frank, Full of Grace (2021)
WHAT?!?
What a strange neither here nor there ending to a neither here nor there final season.
Snowpiercer (2020)
It's not a "detective drama" you idiots!
One of the main characters playing detective is just a device to drive the plot which is about the train and the different classes of passengers which provides the subtext of our society in general.
So far I think this adaptation is much much better than the movie (which was very bad IMO.) This TV version of the story feels like it has room to breathe and have some nuance and layers which the movie didn't do because they spent too much time on the fighting scenes so that didn't allow enough time for the story to grow past the basic contrived points.
Hopefully the TV series will go more in depth and be more thought provoking than the movie. So far so good, I really liked the 1st episode.
Killing Eve: Are You from Pinner? (2020)
Worst episode of the entire series so far, felt like terrible college screenwriting
The episode was about getting to know Villanelle's family and her origins, but instead does a poor job of dividing the characters into "who deserves to die" boxes when Villanelle eventually kills most of them...so that the viewer maybe doesn't feel bad for them or dislike Villanelle?
Stepbrother - cheating philanderer and dumb = ok to kill off.
Girlfriend of stepbrother - addicted to phone, a wannabe bully with bad fashion = ok to kill off.
Stepdad - supports mother putting Villanelle in orphanage = ok to kill off.
Mother - bad mom that poisons her children's minds with negativity = ok to kill off.
Baby stepbro - likes Elton John and is young = innocent, no kill.
Brother - Naive "look at the stars" from the barn, loves Villanelle, so = innocent, no kill.
My eyes were rolling so far back at how extremely contrived and basic the writing was. Each of the family members were made into a bad caricature, not worthy of Jodie Comer's great performance at the end in the train.
Also, huge pet peeve, most people in Russia don't speak English, not even the young people, and especially not some small village. The writers try to justify that with the family listening to English music but that's just ridiculous ::Eyerolls::
