Project Blue Book (2019)
Please don't let this be the end ...
In a world with so much junk tv, it's a rare find to actually find something with some actual thought and consideration behind it. Frankly I'm surprised more ppl are not begging for the show to have more seasons.
The backstory of not just the UFO interest, but of the characters and of what our world was like then, it's all taken shape to build a strong storyline that crosses genres and what sort of audience will actually watch it, if given the chance.
The acting's brilliant as is everything else and it would be a shame for that all to be lost when it could become even more brilliant, there's so much changing of human history in the upcoming years (in show time) that could make this surpass anything else.
So please keep making the show, and if no ones seen it, what are you waiting for ?
Man on Wire (2008)
Rarely If Ever Is There A Film Worth 10 **********
But this documentary film is absolutely spellbinding, when you see him walking the wire it's impossible not to be utterly transfixed and moved by every step he takes. The documentary is half serious half tongue in cheek, & I'd imagine that this was exactly what they were all really like while planning this. What a beautiful film to have as a reminder of the Twin Towers and the majesty of them, rather than the memory of what became of them in the end, maybe sometimes memories are better than the here & now.
Bølgen (2015)
What a Gem !
I'll start off with the bad, that way I can get it out of the way and move on to the good. I'm not sure why movie companies think they need to dub anything that's not in English, it certainly doesn't do any movie any favors when your more caught up in the terrible dubbing, than you are with the movie itself ! If they must, options would be a wonderful thing, let the viewers choose between badly dubbed sound and subtitles, of which I'd much prefer the later.
So it's entirely a testament to the absolutely stunning scenery and cinematography, along with the acting and directing, that I continued to keep watching this, and I'm SO glad I did !
This puts to shame 99.9% of American Big budget blockbusters, the way this was filmed, using the scenery to crank up the tension is just brilliant, right from the opening scenes you were pulled into it, especially knowing what was going to happen, you couldn't help giving that beautiful scenery a sneaky glance now & then to make sure it wasn't doing anything it shouldn't !
The typical lull into a false sense of security that any disaster movie has in the beginning is used to the fullest extent that it could be, you could literally feel the tension ratcheting up a notch with every moment that passed, and I doubt there would be many people that weren't screaming "PUSH the button !!!"
The scenes leading up to when the wave hits, during, and just after are pure disaster movie brilliance, so SO well done, to say I was on the edge of my chair would be understating it.
Of course the movie doesn't end there, and there are the expected scenes of a final emergency along with a reunion, that's all I can really say without giving anything away, but I will add I love a Moma Bear who fights for her cub, so to speak.
Even if you hate dubbed or foreign movies, but love disaster movies, give this a go, you'll find that by the time your a little way into the movie your just enjoying it. I'd rate this an 8 out of 10, it could of been a 9 but for the dubbing.
Hereditary (2018)
I Rarely Write Reviews ...
But then I rarely see a movie this damn good ! I'm not going to write any spoilers, or say what it's about, I think if someone had told me the premise behind this beforehand I would of said 'what a crap, corny idea for a movie and it would suck' and if I had said that (which I didn't) I'd take it all back, every single word. I don't think I've watched a movie in years that has had me looking at EVERY little thing on screen, as SO much pops up when you least expect it, that your looking into the shadows and shapes and markings for the next little bit to come along and slam you with at truly 'wtf' moment, and there are plenty of them. If the movie seems to start off slow, don't worry it doesn't take long to warm up and take you on a damn good 2hr ride. There were just a couple of downers - 1 I'll call the swimming/floating bit, once you've seen the movie you'll know what I mean - didn't like it, at all and 2 unfortunately was the ending - there's not always a need to tie everything up with a pretty bow and spell things out just in case people didn't quite get it - sometimes a fall is best left just where it is - you'll understand that after seeing the movie too. Still a farking Stupendous horror that should keep everyone looking over their shoulder for a little while and I'm definitely keeping the night light on tonight !
Blair Witch (2016)
Fear Not, All Who Enter Here
If, like me, your paying to rent this movie in the hopes it's some kind of remake, a dust off from the original movie, made into its full possibilities of scream inducing terrors and things that go bump in the night, then your going to be very, very, very disappointed. If however you want a horror that shows people talking without their lips moving, stupid thrashing around in the woods scenes which will make you want to B/Slap one of them, and bad bad bad acting along with bad scripting & the feel of the 'self recorded film' feels super fake, kinda like when you watch a really bad movie and ... oh wait, you ARE watching a really bad movie, never mind. There's not even any gratuitous sex scenes or nudity to spice it up a little. So all I can suggest if you want to watch a good remake of an older movie, go hire out the Evil Dead remake, now they did that film justice ! If you want to hire a bad movie to laugh at, forget this one, it's not funny bad, it's just sad, lifeless and best left to gather dust on some server somewhere, let's just hope aliens never see this and think this is what us humans are really like, or we're all doomed to wander aimlessly in dark woods forever.
Poltergeist (2015)
I loved it !
What do you call a remake of a classic horror, that's not quite a remake ? Poltergeist 2015 edition, that's what ! And personally I would like to thank them for making it 'not quite a remake' as I was about 30 or so mins into the film I realized I didn't feel like I was watching a film I'd seen before, sure they'd kept some of the old clichés, but lost some as well, replacing them with modern interpretations and it all just jelled together really well, so I felt like I was watching a new movie, in and of itself, and might I say, enjoying the hell out of it ! If you liked the original, you'll love this, if you were born after the original had its hey day, as such, you'll still love this, there's screams and creepy things, tender moments and a few laughs, and no sex, which will please all parents worldwide, while managing to disappoint teenage boys, also world wide. It's a fun ( but creepy ) family horror everyone can enjoy, if there is an award for best remake at the Oscars then this film should win hands down !
Demonic (2015)
Finally a Decent Horror, or at least one that doesn't make me want to doze off
Only very minor spoilers below ... I wasn't expecting much from this latest horror to hit our small screens, like many horror fans I've had my hopes truly dashed on the rocks far far too many times by movies that promised so much, then totally fell flat trying to deliver. Maybe that's exactly why I did enjoy Demonic, instead of going in with great expectations, I just sat back and watched the film, I didn't really even have much of an idea of the storyline beyond what's posted on iTunes. The scene is pretty simple, and to be honest I'm surprised it's taken film writers this long to realize ghost hunting is at an all time high, especially in America, and by basing a film around the scenario of ghost hunters they automatically have a believable scene set, and a reason for the 'reality' take of cameras being used by the characters to film the movie itself. But this movie takes it a step further and goes into having a murderous ghost allowing them to then bring in the other reality concept of police involvement and of them trying to crack the case while watching the found footage , sounds good huh ? And it is. Some of the in built scares set to frighten the viewer, are easily explained away, leaving you wondering what's real and what's not, while others hint at a deadlier, scarier reasoning behind the bumps in the night, also having some characters missing, others dead and some in cuffs, leaves you, along with the police, watching that same found footage trying to find out who, or what, is behind it all. Oh and the ending, well I did guess that, about 30 mins before the end, but still loved it, it makes sense, and leaves the opening for a sequel right open, as it does for a prequel, what really happened at the first seance ? Who were the men in the old photo with the gate drawn on the back of it ? See, sounds interesting now doesn't it ? Just go watch it and stop reading the review, it's worth the cost of a bag of popcorn and a ticket at least !
Knock Knock (2015)
Hated it
I pretty much only write reviews on films I really enjoy or dislike, this, sadly for Keanu who used to be a heck of an actor, falls into the later category. For one I hate movies, books, or anything that puts a nice person into looking like the opposite, and this does that to full impact and then some. Instead of getting into that he slept with them so he's to blame, or this or that, how about his wife is Spanish, one of the girls is, nothing explains this at all, they know things about the family that could only come from some type of knowledge beforehand .... NOTHING is done to explain this, they kill one person, and hint about someone who will easily get rid of the body, but the death wasn't planned, so how did they have access to this person, when figuring in the ending, they don't need anyone to get rid of a body. The whole movie is beyond stupid, sold on the fact that Keanu has fans, well count me out on that from now on ! How he sank quite so low is just ....... Sorry Keanu but as in th movie, you choose who you sleep with, you slept with a total loser IMHO movie wise, and I'm moving on. Adios
Haunting: Australia (2014)
Such A Shame
I found this DVD set by chance online, read a couple of good reviews and figured I'd take a chance, it didn't take me long into episode one, to realize there are some chances you just shouldn't take ! The narrator, oh my god, what pit of hell did they drag him out of ? And I hope they can get a refund, as he just ruins the entire show, and for me all credibility of it as well. How can I take a paranormal show as at all legitimate, when they use such a cheesy narrator, and let's be honest they could of just gone with Rob, he was OK to 'lead' the team, surely using him should've been a given. If there is a season 2, and I'm betting there won't be, after watching episode one of the first season, for dear god kill the narrator and then go hunt his ghost ;)
Stranded (2013)
Still watching and bored
This is like an Alien rip off ... And badly done at that. Bought the DVD as I loved Christian Slater, but oh darn how far he has fallen. Such a shame wish I had my 90 odd minutes back ..... I really did want to enjoy this movie, I wish I had but I am sitting here typing a bad review rather than watch the film ... Wonder what that says .. IMDb wants me to write 10 lines of text before I can write a review,, wonder what that says ... Freaking annoying if you ask me.
