The Sound of 007 (2022)
Brilliant
Not only was the music review fantastic, but the context of the 60s and 70s (especially in London), and the role of the composer, musicians and interaction with the director was a complete education. How interesting! Bravo that this programme was put together. I'm inspired to now go and play some Bond on the piano. And isn't Billie Eilish amazing! Gosh I'd love to sit next to her at a dinner party. Early on in the programme, check out the few seconds where she asks if she can sing without the backing track. That comment completely allowed her song to fly. A true pleasure to watch this moment caught on film.
Sound of Metal (2019)
Necessary insight
I'm 52 and have hearing loss rated (in the UK) as "mild to moderate" caused by too much heavy metal 35 years ago and an enjoyment of using power tools. I've been using hearing aids for 7 years and they've made an enormous difference. This movie brings it home that hearing loss is something we find out about too late. Kids should be taught about this in school. Before my hearing aids I would walk into a busy pub or restaurant and all sound would be obliterated. I couldn't make sense of any conversation unless the person in front of me was literally shouting into my ear. This movie delivers the message and addresses the disabling effect of hearing loss very well. I thought I knew all about it from my experience but how wrong was I. Please watch this film, and ideally with your teenage kids. And for goodness sake wear ear defenders when using your power tools and decibel reducers when you go to a gig. Riz did an amazing job here, very well done.
