Champion (2023)
Entertaining and great soundtrack
The storyline kept me entertained and the actors were good throughout. I thought Bosco, Vita and the dad were all great actors and I'll be keeping an eye out for more work. The only issue for me (stressing that this is my personal taste) was that it focused a bit too much on the bad in people and everyone trying to snake each other. Maybe that is a true representation of how people are? But I just feel it would have been a better watch if it was more lighthearted at times. Without a doubt the best thing about the show was the soundtrack and musical performances though, they popped off I can't lie!
Carlito's Way (1993)
Underrated Classic, Up there with the best of the gangster genre.
Better than Scarface. Rivaled only, in its genre, by the likes of Goodfellas and The Godfather.
Carlito's Way runs counter to the orthodox in terms of classic 'gangster' movies. The focus is not on rising from the gutters and gaining reputation and status, as we may expect, but rather on redemption. Pacino plays Carlito Berganzi, a Puerto-Rican ex-con who is trying to avoid the seduction of the streets whilst raising enough money to get away from New York. De Palma's classic shows a love story with Carlito reuniting with his true love (Penelope Ann Miller) after 5 years, and subsequently aiming to redeem himself in her eyes. The lure of the streets is evident throughout, as well as Carlito 's pride and loyalties to his coke-addicted lawyer (Sean Penn). The movie contains frequent edge-of-the-seat action scenes and phenomenal pieces of acting throughout. It allows us to empathise with Carlito and believe that he is genuine in his reformed spirit. The casting is perfect and allows for a movie reminiscent of Scarface, with an added romance not dissimilar to Casablanca. A must see for anyone.
Casablanca (1942)
Timeless Classic (Bogart is a cinematic icon)
A true masterpiece that will never get old. Without doubt, one of the best romance movies of all time, parallelled perhaps only by the likes of 'Gone with the wind' or 'An affair to remember'. This movie will take you on a ride through every emotion imaginable and allow you to relate to and empathise with the characters with ease. This movie was not made with the expectancy of being an amazing watch, however this Warner Bros' A-List became one of the all-time greats and will wow you with its famous lines and beautiful scenes. For those of you who refrain from watching older, monochrome movies and prefer to watch newer Romance films such as 'Twilight' or 'The Notebook', please give this movie a chance and you will not regret it. Prepare to witness a real classic.
