No Ordinary Love (2019)
A Powerful Drama
The subject matter is upsetting, but handled deftly by a director who I am going to keep my eye on. This is a well-written, well-acted indie drama that will stay with you. Highly recommended!
Silhouette (2019)
Dark and disturbing - I loved it!
As a horror film lover, it's a rare pleasure these days when you see a great horror film that doesn't emasculate itself with forced irony and a self-aware wink.
This is a dark, wonderful, psychological horror film that takes itself seriously and delivers the goods. It's brooding, it's atmospheric, and it's bloody and scary and twisted.
If you enjoy the films of Andrzej Zulawski, Panos Cosmatos, and David Lynch (with maybe a touch of giallo), then this is right up your alley. Check it out.
The Challenger Disaster (2019)
This is a really, really good movie
With strong acting and direction, this film manages to make talk riveting, à la "The China Syndrome". It's hard to make a movie about an event where everyone knows the outcome, but watching this film I really felt like I was getting a look behind the curtain, as we spend the night before the tragic launch with five of the engineers. It's engrossing, at times harrowing, and ultimately heartbreaking.
Cherokee Creek (2018)
The most fun I've had at a movie in a while!
Blood, boobs, and beast -- this Bigfoot action-horror comedy has it all. The acting is great and the writing and direction are better than the intentionally silly premise deserves. A lot of light-hearted Indies look like the makers had a blast but the audience was an afterthought -- in this case, the audience I saw Cherokee Creek with was genuinely loving it and I appreciated how smart the movie was, even when it was being wonderfully gross, tasteless, and goofy. Definitely worth seeing!
