Et rigtigt menneske (2001)
What does it take to be a truly human being? Be prepared to be shocked!!
This film is about family, about humanity, and about life. It's about everything.
The little girl's death threw a bomb to the world around her. Her parents blamed each other for what had happened and grew cold towards each other. The family nearly collapsed.
The little girl's death gave his imagery big brother a chance to live as a truly human being. He came out of the walls and stepped into the real world for the first time in his maybe early twenties.
As a twenty something grown-up, he is not what people expected him to be; not an experienced, learned or sophisticated adult. On the contrary, he is quite simple, unworldly, and naïve; he's a baby trapped in a young man's body. Even though he still had to take a living adventure on his own.
What he went through provided us an opportunity to see and think how one takes and learns to be a capable, suitable and adaptive living person in a society.
His endurance showed us how presumption, prejudice, misunderstanding and misconception relate to how we treat one another.
What he undertook granted us a possibility to see how people use one another in the wrong way; how people take advantage of others when they feel they are more superior.
His odyssey really reveals every aspect of humanity.
After seeing this film, we can begin to agree the negative denotation in the phrase "We're Only Human".
En soap (2006)
A pilgrim to love.
To me, neither of them knows what love is.
Charlotte can leave her 4-year-living- together-love relationship behind and sleeps with every man she met without feelings or guilt. It seems only sensation counts to her; only herself is important to her. She doesn't know how to love and cares only for herself.
Veronica is a transsexual to be. S/He tries to look like women, dress like women, and act like women. S/He wishes to become a real woman, but before that s/he is a woman trapped in a man's body. Under this condition, s/he couldn't face herself/himself; s/he finds herself/himself ugly, lonely, and stuck. Being like this, s/he can not love herself/himself, not to speak loving other people.
The encounter between these two unloving people sparks. They seem trying to find the ability and strength to love one another, but failed and failed again. This love pilgrim goes on and on; till the end of film, we still can't tell if they find the love they want. Perhaps this film really is a reflection of life in everydayness.
Stupeur et tremblements (2003)
Imagination is highly required!!!
Fear and Trembling seldom changed scenes; everything happened in the office building, but it will be a big mistake to describe this film as dull, unimaginative, boring, monotonous or a dry one. On the contrary, it is quite an imaginative and interesting movie. Amelie, a Belgian girl who is obsessed with her Japanese childhood memories, decided to go back to work at the place where she's born. And here began with her miserable office work life. The only way out is her wild imagination!!!
This is quite a universal issue, absurd, preposterous, ridiculous, strange, unfair, unreasonable things do happen in offices whether it's in Asia, Europe or in America. Your supervisor gives you stupid work just to prove that you are inferior to her/him, never ever giving thought to the benefits of the whole company. Try to find a decent job to demonstrate your skills or to make people you work with recognize your abilities are just some silly and naive notions for newcomers. You can hardly achieve any self-achievements, self-fulfillments or whatsoever while you have supervisors and colleagues. The only survival kit is taking the whole thing as a joke and using wild imagination to play along with other coworkers, just like what Amelie did!!!
Fear and Trembling gives you a glimpse of what happen in the offices, how foolish obsession will lead you, how culture differences play a big role in a foreign environment, and of course how and what you can do to face them bravely.
This film is highly recommended to those who were, are and will work with others in the office!! You will see that imagination is highly required for those who want to survive in an office work life!!!
Lost in Translation (2003)
Being found and lost again!!!
I would say this is a beautiful, sad, and could-be-love story. Two people got dragged into this bewildered foreign city, Tokyo. Neither of them came here by their own choices; neither of them could adapt to this different culture and language. And there was no energy, no feelings, no interests, and no moods to experience and appreciate what happened around them. These two people not only lost in translation; they are also lost at their hearts!!!
The brief encounter made them found each other and by finding each other, they themselves are also being found. Despite of the gender, and the age differences, they still can share, understand, feel and comprehend each other's thoughts, feelings and even dreams. This sense of identifying, belonging and bounding made them fell for each other. You'll have to admit that even while you are at home, it's just not easy to find someone who can share the same things with you. And because of this slight chance of finding one another, their differences and their being in a foreign country, made them cherish their hard-to-find relationship even more!!! And this could of course develop love between them. But can this vague love last long??? Is this real Love??? I highly doubt it!!! Because love requires too many things that Bob and Charlotte don't have. However, it's always safe to say ¡§Lost in Translation¡¨ is a beautiful romantic movie!!!!
This film bought me back to the Unite States, Canada, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, and Spain. Though unlike Bob and Charlotte, I was in these foreign places by my own decisions, these places are still foreign me. Besides that I was in most of these places alone; I can feel and understand how and what they feel being lonely outsiders. I know what it felt like when one minute you meet someone great but the next minute you two have to go separate ways. Life is just like this: people come and go for whatever reasons!!! "Lost in Translation" can speak to you and touch your heart because it's just that real and it happens to everyone, everyday, in any places.
Lucía y el sexo (2001)
It's more than that!!!
This is a film not just with lots of steaming hot sex; it's more than that!!! It's such a contradicted film; everything in this film has double meanings, and hidden messages. So while seeing this movie, please do not be deceived by your own eyes and ears; instead, try to find the hidden messages that this film wants to tell you!!
For instance, this film sure has more sex scenes than other films have (of course, except those porn movies). However, to me what this film wants to say is not just to have more pleasurable sex but to look out and take good care of your desires!! This film illustrates lots of examples why and here I came up with 3 of them.
1. A beautiful, unforgettable, careless sex with Lorenzo, Elena became pregnant and fascinated by that sex she once had. She wanted to leave the man she's with now and what's more, she wanted to find her child's father even though her child's father is a total mystery to her, no name, no address, not to mention what her child's father did for a living. She has completely no clues. Trying to find her dreamed man, the fate bought her to Madrid where she lost her precious daughter.
2. While Lorezo, the father, and Belen, the babysitter, were aroused by their desires and attempting to have sex, Luna, the daughter, was attacked by a fierce dog and found dead. How ironic, Luna was created by the sex and destroyed also by the sex.
3. The sex between Belen's mother and Antonio or let's say the desire between Belen and Antonio made the relationship among Belen and her mother and Antonio became tense and unpredictable. And which leaded the mother and daughter disappeared and Antonio himself went far far away and disguised himself in a little island where Luna was formed.
This film is also a film for females. Look into this film real seriously, you may find that actually it's a film about females, about their fantasies, about their capabilities, and about their desires to sex. Thus it's not surprising to find no male jerking off scene but a female one!!!
Besides the sex theme, Sex and Lucia has more to offer. This film is a story within several stories. A writer writes his/her life or people around them, so does Lorezo. His novel is interweaved with his own life story which not only made himself but also the moviegoers confused, and bewildered. And because of this factor, everything is possible and workable in this film. For example, if you don't like the life you have now, you can get into the imagining hole to start all over again as the writer, Lorezo suggested. And that is what this film did at the end, which made this film an always happening and might also be a happy one if you want.
This is such a good film with good-looking actors, beautiful actresses, good acting, splendid scenes, wonderful music, adventurous themes, creative imagination, interesting plot and many many more!!! Really what's more can you ask in a film!!!!
