The Village (2004)
Not Impressed!
Let me start out this review by saying I love his early work. "The 6th Sense" and "Unbreakable" I thought were brilliant films. I loved them. I feel like he has been taking more liberties lately with his style. He hooked a bunch of us with some great early films and then starting putting out sub par story lines.
The Village isn't honest. It doesn't deliver on anything. I was into it through the first half of the film but then it pretty much lost me after that. You can't put a twist in just for the heck of it. It needs to be smart. I don't want to ruin it, but you will know what I mean when you see it.
The performances are great as always. The mood and tone are brilliant. My biggest problems are with the choices he made in the script. It was careless. I felt jipped.
That being said, I am very much looking forward to his next film. I think he needs to just spend a little more time working on his stories and just make choices because no one would expect that.
In the end, I would never say don't go see it, just don't expect too much and you'll probably come out okay.

Better Off Dead... (1985)
SAVAGE STEVE ROCKS!!!
This movie is funny in a way that other films aren't. It is not obvious it is a comedy. The acting is so serious that you feel like it;s meant not to be silly. I love this style. It is evident in his other Film "One Crazy Summer". I am a filmmaker myself and this was a huge influence to me. It showed me something different.
I love the large number of characters. It makes it so much more fun. The pacing is perfect leaving the overall film a wonder to see. I don't find much of Steves humor in the projects he's been doing lately, but the more family oriented films are a little different anyway so they can't really be compared.
This film is unique in content and success. I believe some people won't like a movie like this because it is too weird at times. This is what I love about it. There is no other film like it. The closest thing is what the Farely Brothers have been doing lately. "Something About Marry", "Dumb and Dumber" are brilliant films in their own right.
A word of advice, if you haven't seen "Better Off Dead", go see it.

Halloween (1978)
Best Horror Flick
I believe this to be the most classic horror flick. I believe it is the film that all other scary movies should be judged. Michael Myers is the bomb! He blows Jason out of the water and he looks the coolest. The only thing about any of the Halloween movies that I hate is Halloween 3. What the heck does it have to do with any other Halloween movie? Any ideas?
The music is all tops. Carpenter does everything in his films. You don't really see that anymore- not these days. That title track for Halloween has been stuck in my head for years. I love it.
I also believe the sequels to be superior (Minus H3) to all others. I am not kidding when I say I have seen this film a hundred times. Most horror flicks these days don't give the viewer any credit. We are much more intelligent that they assume. Films like Halloween were made the right way. They are meant to be fun but with a scare here and there. This is why I love it.
GREAT MOVIE!
Rutland, USA (2002)
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
How freakin' refreshing for some one to go and make a movie for $4,000 and have it NOT SUCK like the Hollywood movies made for millions. To say I laughed through the entire movie would be an understatement. Granted, the acting isn't the best, but what do you expect for 4k?
Everyone should see this movie. If you are one of those people that doesn't like odd comedy and you take everything in life too seriously then just skip it and go stick your head in a toilet. This movie rocked. Here's why...
1. Detective Rose is awesome. He's got to be close to 70 years old and he's rippin' it up on the big screen- better than Leslie Nielson. He's says a line about his ball sack that made me laugh like a little boy.
2. Sara Williams- Hot! Cute girl with great comedic timing. She is the oddest reporter I have ever seen in a movie and I want to see her more. Funny funny funny lines.
3. Lots of characters- I love ensamble casts and this one is funnier than Lord of the Rings. A movie with a lot of characters is more interesting to watch.
4. The Plot wasn't the most well orchestrated thing I have ever seen, but it didn't matter- it was too darn funny. If you want to watch a movie and just have a good time- rent or buy this. It is more funny the second time and even more funny the third.
I think the reason why I loved this movie so much is because I feel like it's my little secret- Just because it doesn't have star power or a million dollar budget. I guess I just wanted to let you all in on a little secret and tell you to find a way to see this movie. If you like stuff like Dumb and Dumber, Something About Mary, Naked Gun, or The Sound of Music- you will love this.
That's my 2 and a half cents- I'm out.
Chump Change (2000)
Great Surprise! Great flick!
This movie blew me away. I had no idea it was going to be this funny. My roomate recently bought it because he knew someone who was in it. I knew nothing about the movie. One night I was bored- by myself and thought I would check it out. I laughed...and laughed...and laughed. Seriously, it was almost too funny. You go back and forth from Wisconsin and L.A. The Wisconsin parts give you a few breaks from the funny but the L.A. stuff makes me pee my pants. T. Mathheson is the bomb. He's incredible. If half the stuff stephen burrows wrote is true then that guy had one hell of an expereince in L.A. Did I mention it is based on a true story. Traci Lords is in it. I've seen other movies with her, but none where she kept her clothes on. She actually rocks as an actress. I wish her the best. Folks, this is a must see.
