Cannon: The Stalker (1974)
D'oh
I'm a Frank Cannon fan, but this one is hard to watch. Frank seems unable to connect the dots in the beginning, with regards to a certain person who's been trying to take him out.
He starts off on a trek to the cabins and gets road raged- almost head on into an oncoming big rig, but ends up doing some off-roading in his sedan and gets stuck in the dirt. It was obviously instigated, and the perp even stops, making eye contact with Cannon.
But in the next scene, Frank has arrived to his destination and is greeted by an old friend who's the Host. His friend has advised him that he had heard on the radio that someone Cannon had put away several years earlier had escaped from the mental institution, and most likely looking to even the score. Frank walks off, seemingly unable to make a connection with the recent mishap on his journey there.
A scene or two later, Frank is checking his pistol before going to bed. Nothing unusual about that- we're use to seeing Frank ensuring he's prepared, but then we see him in a rowboat on a lake, being shot at by a psycho with rifle and scope, (doesn't even come close to hitting him), while Frank nonchalantly rows himself to shore and takes his time putting away his tackle. He's unarmed, btw. He left his pistol under his pillow ! D'oh
Then the psycho traps Frank, and Frank gives him permission to kill him.. ??? .. The offender relents, and wants to play cat and mouse.
Frank gets wounded while strolling through the grounds trying to get gas, and then a sheriffs helicopter comes to discover something is amiss..
The acting never seemed to come together- even Cindy Williams had a B performance.
It had the makings of an 8 pointer +, but unfortunately, it lacked wit and thought, and poor acting throughout.
.. Frank fly fishing with a torch on the end of his line into a tub of gas was probably the best moment.
Gunsmoke: Unmarked Grave (1956)
"Watch him Chester.. D'oh"
If there's anything worse than predictability, it's intentional stupidity, like guarding a criminal in a hotel room with only his hands cuffed- and that in front, not to a bed post, or behind his back.
Matt's trying to get info out of him, but the smarta** won't talk.
..there's a knock on the door.. Matt lets in an older woman who's wanting to settle a score over her dead son, brings the man a bowl of soup. Matt let's her in, and she throws the soup in Matt's face so the punk can make his break.. they scuffle, and Matt wins. Though she should have been arrested for aiding and abetting, Matt tells her to get out of the room, and she scurries off in an offended huff.
Meanwhile, a dying man in Docs office, who was trying to deliver this criminal elsewhere, but now in Matt's custody, mumbles something to Doc, and Doc tells Chester to get Matt- who's still wiping soup out of his eyes.. Chester finally arrives after taking in a peep show of the stagecoach driver getting beat half to death by the leader of this crew, (William hopper), and tells Matt "They're here"! ..Matt tells Chester to watch the prisoner, who's still walking freely about the room with a pair of handcuffs in the front, and runs to the hotels window and kicks it out, yelling to his searching friends below; "I'm here, I'm here", as Matt and Chester stand by paralyzed and agasp..
At this point I had to turn channels.
Save yourself some time and just watch 310 to Yuma.
..unless you're really bored.
Ride the Pink Horse (1947)
Don't waste your time
I read the reviews before watching this movie- lots of big build up, but disappointing. The viewer is continually expecting some type of dramatic turn around, but it just continues to dive..
Paper Bullets (1941)
5.6 ? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ???
Don't miss this flick ! The acting is good, and Joan Woodward is Hot- especially when she's working the street👌 !
Alan Ladd, Jack LaRue..? Look up the cast- any classic movie viewer will recognize some of em.
I love watching this movie! And when I can't sleep, I plug in the iPad.. it's smooth, very little music, and goes by quick!
Central Park (1932)
A genuine pre code talkie !
Great chemistry between actors- and especially the bravery of the extras being chased by a lion! ..even get to see one fed to him !
The hour goes quick- it's not too predictable 👍
Don't forget the popcorn!
Bullitt (1968)
Can't touch this !
Do you really think Hollywood could ever remake this movie with any success? ...Only if Steve Mcqueen was in it! Who are these Hollywood critics anyways- a 7.5 ...PHOOEY!
This movie epitomizes the King of Cool. From the beginning of the movie - till it wraps up, you'll be into it, opting to hold that bathroom and popcorn run for fear you're gonna miss something! It's got everything; cops and crooks, drama and suspense, car chases, and Jacqueline Bisset- what more could a guy want!
Don't wait for that 'rainy day' to see it - grab a friend, some snacks, and a six pack of your favorite beverage, and make it a party today. It'll be a memorable experience that'll last a life time!
