Sparks (2013)
Like a bad stage play.
It is kind of hard to write a review that would be kind to this movie. First of all, I like Noir movies, I'll give most movies a bit of thought before I decide whether I like, or don't like. Now this movie is neither an drama, an action movie nor a comedy, it's more like a bad stage play. The acting was only just above amateur (kind of), the camera work was noticeably (kind of) bad. The effects were (kind of) tacky, the dialogue was cringefully bad (not kind of), the casting was all wrong (definatly), everything, and I mean everything about this movie was kind of wrong, in fact I'll go one step further and say, it was just plain awful. There was nothing about this movie that I liked, no wait, I lie... some of the cars were pretty cool, the biscuits I had with my cup of tea were pretty good, and I liked the bit where the movies disclaimer came up at the end, yeah, that was the best bit! Hmph. I did say a few kind words about it after all.
Neighbors (1981)
Ramona almost steals the show!
I remember going to see this movie with a friend while my wife was away on holidays. I don't remember laughing at all during it's run time, and when it finished, we looked at each other and said, "what the f*** did we just watch". Unsure if it was actually a comedy or not, when it was released on video, I just had to see it again. Well the more I watched it, the more it became one of my favorites. It's low budget, nothing really stands out production wise, some of the acting was a bit... well, you know! it's not all gold, but it works! I must have seen this 7 or 8 times. Dan Akroyd as the overbearing neighbor who is messing with John Belushi, is just brilliant. Cathy Moriarty is perfect as the sultry Ramona, (rarely have I seen sexy done so well). This movie shouldn't be analysed with a critical eye, it's an odd little number, that everyone seemed to have fun making. Give it a chance, and view it for what it is, and you may just enjoy yourself
Brickleberry (2012)
Keep 'em coming.
O.k. there's some bad jokes in there, but South Park, Family Guy, American Dad etc. have them as well. I've watched 6 eps so far and it seems to be finding it's feet. Squwabbits was frickin' hilarious, everybody I know likes this show. Some of you so called critics out there are just nasty for the sake of getting you're name in print. Your over educated (or un-educated) ramblings make most of you sound like you've lost the plot. Some so called "critics" get so far off the beaten track, or is so poorly written I just can't understand WTF they're on about. If you don't like the show, don't watch it, watch something that you do like and comment on that. STOP SPOILING EVERYONE ELSE'S FUN, it's a mildly offensive cartoon, that does exactly what its supposed to do, and that's perhaps not everybody's cup of tea, but it is funny when you give it a chance 7 - 8 out of 10 and rising.
Prometheus (2012)
At last, an intense, intelligent movie, better than I had hoped for.
Well, I have been hanging for this movie, since I found out that Ridley was going to do it, so I'll keep it reasonably short. Again, the overly clever critics are pulling it to pieces, they will never be satisfied, no matter how good it is, you may also notice that, their names are not mentioned in movie credits, or at award ceremonies, ignore them, and just go see this movie. This is Ridley Scott doing what Ridley does best. Loved it in 3D, don't read the spoilers.
Mister Scott, please, may we have more of this.
Shield your eyes for this part,....... better than Avatar, no fake looking blue aliens here!! Bravo, encore encore!!
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)
Timeless fun for everyone
It's a real pity that some people are so clever, so articulate, that everything they see must must be pulled apart and analyzed to the nth degree, ultimately destroying their own, (and others) enjoyment of something that is meant to be pure escapism, what sorry, sorry lives they must lead. I love the way they pick the crap out of a movie, saying, Oh they should have done this or that, or the acting was....., using words you need a dictionary to understand, Yes everybody thinks they're really clever.
Sky Captain would have to be one of the most fun works of art I have ever seen, so damned clever in it's execution. Yes the acting and overall feel was very typical of the old one reeler's we used to watch at the cinema's, when we were kids, but that is exactly what they were shooting for. I didn't like Jude Law much until I saw this, and Gwyneth Paltrow, well she is just eye candy. Angelina Jolie made the most of every frame she was in, making her part unforgettable, everyone looked like they were having fun.
It's not everybody's cup of tea, but then I didn't like Star Wars very much, proving that you can't please everybody, and I am a very big Sci-Fi fan, but this movie has passion written all over it. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), that it was the first of it's kind (to completely use green screens), going places and doing things that that hadn't been done before, so it was largely experimental.
Sky Captain is a triumph, a hell of a lot of fun, brimming with innovative and clever ideas, something to help forget the world for a couple of hours, good clean family viewing.
It has one of the all time best endings.
Do yourself a favor, don't analyze, just watch and enjoy.
Oh, and one more thing, to the clever critics, instead of criticizing other people's work, get out there and show everyone how it's done. We should be praising their genius, and encouraging them onwards.
A very fat 9 out of 10
