Modern Family: Chirp (2010)
STOP THE FLIPPING CHIRP!
WORST idea for a story. Okay, maybe not the absolute worst, but I certainly hope whomever had the NOT BRILLIANT idea to sound the actual @#$@#$ alarm chirp at what seems like full volume throughout the episode is long gone! Other storylines were interesting but, unfortunately, I couldn't tolerate watching because by about mid-point I had such a headache from the "chirp" I had to shut off the sound and then the show. Fortunately, this time through I had the sense to put on subtitles so I actually watched the entire episode. My most hated episode.
Table 19 (2017)
Charming and Surprisingly Deep
The first time I watched this movie it was by default as there was absolutely nothing else on. I'm not a big A. Kendrick fan and the description sounded rather "lame": girl goes to her friend's wedding where she has to face ex-boyfriend who happens to be the brother of the bride. Despite that it began a little slow, it ended up being an absolute delight! Fun, quirky characters and a moving story with unexpected twists. I've watched it a few times since, and still find it delightful and satisfying. I also find myself still laughing at the characters' lines and antics. Table 19 has become one of my go-to films. Love it!
Angie (1979)
Loved Loved LOVED "Angie" & NYC!!!
I'd forgotten about this terrific sitcom until coming across it on IMBD today. This late 1970s/early 1980s retelling of the Cinderella story was a favorite, one I looked forward to every week.
As did many of its fans, I never understood why it was cancelled until now when I read other reviews. Apparently, a big reason was that it fell victim to the old time-slot shifting game which confounded viewers.
"Angie" had great actors, interesting story lines, well-written scripts and, best of all (for me): the city of NEW YORK as a real character. Loved this show and so dismayed that it isn't available to view anywhere!!!
Robin Hood (2018)
Great fun, though flawed.
This film was entertaining for me as well as friends who included a 30-year old and a teen. Personally, I get bored easily and didn't find myself checking my watch at all. Decent story and acting, especially by Foxx and Egerton who made a pretty charming Robin Hood. FAR better than Kevin Costner who, honestly, should go down as the WORST RH ever (!) and, sadly, pitted against the late great Alan Rickman (the BEST Nottingham ever). The script & dialogue rough at times due to logic flaws which were distracting. Action sequences were exciting and very well done. I wasn't crazy about the decision to use contemporary costumes in some of the scenes--it didn't work for me but that didn't take away. Message relevant to today, certainly, but not terribly heavy-handed. All in all, a lot of fun; glad I saw it in the theater/on the big screen, rather than wait for DVD.
