Catwoman (2004)
Allow me to be the dissenting voice
I watched this movie on cable, having been warned out of the theater by critics and media hype.
Piffle! I have been led astray again. This is a perfectly enjoyable piece of fluff. Halle is charming and the cat-like animation of her movements is pleasing. Sharon Stone is a hoot as the villainess, and it is a joy to see Frances Conroy moving to the big screen. And what is not to enjoy about Benjamin Bratt with his shirt off?
The script is as full-bodied as one can expect from what is a supporting character to Batman in the comics. We are not expecting a Shakespeare epic here, it is a graphic novel for the screen.
Lighten up, and have some fun watching this.
The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943)
Hilarious historical gem
I was captivated from the beginning! I watch old movies looking for how much has either remained the same or changed in our society. Lots to think about in this one! Then, ten minutes in, I realized how charmed I was by the goofy comedy. Very daring for it's time - Betty spends nearly the whole movie pregnant, without anyone ever saying "pregnant"! I was absolutely beguiled by every character, even while they were irritating me! Attitudes towards female/male roles in old movies are always an eye opener.
And pure genius to bring in Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini for a laugh!
I passed up watching NFL football to finish watching this one. And to me, football is religion. So how's that for a recommendation?
