Raincoat (2004)
real-no-non-sense-stuff
Excellent work by Rituparno Gosh. The long fades to black really slows down the movie and gives that subtle feeling. And of course the Rain ambiance adds a lot of subtleness. The last shot that fades to black in three stages is lovely.
As for the acting of Aishwarya and Ajay, both have done a good job. Aishwarya is finally off to acting now! I have seen a couple of flicks, and could never see her in 'REAL ACTion'. The surprise role is Babhi(Mouli Ganguli) - In my opinion - a very composed role that 'outperforms' the lead roles.
The climax - the dialogues between Babhi and Mannu is a masterpiece! Excellent cinematography - The best shot is a perspective super wide shot of train wheels over a bridge. The Theme song by Subha Mudgal's is echoing in my ears for over a day now. Very good Music and Truly Commendable Poetry by Gulzar.
for those who rate it below average, for a change, you have (had) a chance to watch the 'real-no-non-sense-stuff'
Deserves an overall 8 on IMDb.
Theeviravaathi: The Terrorist (1998)
This movie made me go berserk..!!
I am an ardent cinematography lover. This is an amazing piece of cinematography work by SANTOSH SIVAN.
Throughout the movie, I was glued to my television. Sharp focus, Green color contrast and some excellent compositions. This movie is inspired from Mani Ratnam's Dil Se, The Depth Of Field was shallow throughout, very few wide angle shots, most of them being tight closeups of Ayesha (Malli). The music score was a bit disappointing, and the dialogues were less audible than the re-recording.
Does anyone know why there were couple of BLACK INSERTS in between some very intense shots..?
Will watch it again. I give it a 10 on 10.
Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000)
amazing song visualisation
I have seen this movie over 3 times, it has got the best cinematography work for songs.
Some sheer hard work has been put in by Ravi K Chandran, 'Konjum Minakalea' is an enthrawling song, it has completely different visualisation Tamil movie has even seen! The dressing, the location, and Aishwrya looks so good in here. I guess thats the best of her I have seen so far..! Though the movie did not do well in the stands, there has been great effort put in by Rajiv Menon.
The movie was not a buster, but I give it a 10 on 10. Really 'found it' interesting!
Finding Nemo (2003)
pixars have done it again =;)
Just saw Finding Nemo this morning (Satyam Cineplex, Chennai, India) one word to comment - 'breathtaking CG work' the entire voice talent team has done a gr8 job too!
The colorful coral of the Marlins, the forgetful Dory, the 'Fish are our friends, not Food' Sharks, the mighty Whale, 150 yrs old. Crush - the Turtle and its kiddies in the EAC, the tank and Nemos' Mates at the Dentist's place, they are all too good!!
Toy Story, Antz, Shrek ...and now Finding Nemo! lol forgot Darla at the Dentist.. Guess the CG supervisor visualised his worst girl friend at School.. haha.
