My Beautiful Broken Brain (2014)
Emotional and intense
I started watching this documentary without a clear idea of what a stroke is or what to expect of it. Within the first 30 minutes I was crying because of the intensity of Lotje's experience. I can't even imagine how hard it is to go through such a thing and never give up hope. I loved that she filmed a lot of it herself, even though she couldn't always explain how she felt.
But you do see her evolution, not only in her recovery but also in acceptance of what is. She became conscious about her condition and about the importance of rest and tranquility in life, which is slightly different from the person she was before her stroke.
This documentary is a reality-check about the severity of brain damage but also about being conscious, satisfied and grateful for your life. It teaches you the strength of human faith, even though she didn't always think she would recover - she never gave up and that is exactly what got her this far. She is an example for all of us, with a beautiful broken brain or just a regular one.
Down to Earth (2015)
Beautiful and moving
Really loved this movie, although it's quit intense and in my opinion it would have been better to split it in 2 and go deeper in detail. They give to many very interesting information in a very short time.
It moved me very deeply, it makes you think about how you are living your life spiritually and if this really is what you want.
Very beautiful music and places, I didn't expect it to look so professional at all.
The Soloist (2009)
Good plot but lacks some artistic input
I liked the movie but expected more of it. It's a really good plot and gets you feeling emotional at some points. Nice viewpoints and framing. But I was very disappointed in the creative side of this movie. There were so much opportunities to really transport this movie to another level of audiovisual arts but all left blank. For example when Nanthaniel and Steve are attending the concert with the 2 of them and there are just colors matching the music. I also thought the scenes are a little tedious. Good actors, but not Robert Downey Jr. best work by far. Jamie Fox was marvelous though.
