The Last of Us: Look for the Light (2023)
Endings and New Beginnings
Great finale and a great way to wrap up the first season. Joel's and Ellie's past wounds and trauma have started to heal because of their companionship. They may not be biologically related but human beings have the capability to care for each other beyond their biology, caste, creed, race, species. Something which has been beautifully portrayed here. Last of Us is one of the most human stories that I have experienced.
Film and TV has become the prime medium of storytelling in our generation but this human core of the story is something which I feel has been somewhat
lacking from the medium recently.
Last of Us proves the mettle of videogames and their competance of telling a great story. I had dropped playing videogames for the last 10 years but the show made me want to restart my journey as a gamer. Last of Us also broke the videogame adaptation curse and hopefully in the future we will see more of great videogame stories being adapted in film and television.
All we require for the production houses is to support and give freedom to the creators who know their stories inside out.
Thank You, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin and the cast/crew for the experience. We hope to see more of your creations in the near future.
PS: I LOVE YOU, PEDRO!!!
Farzi: CCFART (2023)
Title Sunny ne bechh diya
Farzi is consistently going in an upward trajectory. It has well rounded three dimensional
characters and Michael consistently keeps on growing on me. Raj & DK have gone somewhat the Srikant Tiwari way with Michael. The first two episodes focused on his professional struggles and him
playing ball to get things done. Episode 3 gave us a glimpse of his personal life, his troubles with alcoholism,a failed marriage and being a deadbeat dad.
Michael does not want to emotionally bond with his son, he wants to buy him. He does not spend time with his son, so compensates with expensive gifts. Michael is not perfect, which is what
makes him great. To be human is to be fallible. Sunny is regularly flirting with the dark-side of the force. Maybe, this is what happens when you indulge in crime. A thrill which keeps
you going with massive returns and the overconfidence of not getting caught. Must be like cocaine. I should try both of them once(just for some benign experience).
The supporting cast is also extremely colorful. With the charisma and resourcefulness of Anees, the drive and alacrity of Megha and dhairya and principles of Nanu. Let's see what we have in stores for the coming episodes.
Fingers crossed.
Monica O My Darling (2022)
Too Lazy to think of a cool Heading
So this is Vasan Bala's second film after the cult-action-comedy i.e.Mard ko Dard nahin hota.
The first aspect that the viewer may observer is that the film is shot very well. I love the way Swapnil S. Sonawane shoots lights and shadows.
Achint Thakkar is going to go a long way as a musician. Great to see him scoring films after his success in the OTT space with Rocket Boys and Scam 1992. The script is tight and
well written. Something which we demand more and more from bollywood. The silver lining was well written, engaging, three dimensional female characters which we usually do not see in hindi films. Radhika Apte was especially a surprise.
The film also reminded me of Sriram Raghvan's Andhadhun. It follows similar black-comedy-thriller tone of Raghvan's films. Always subverting the expectations of the audieces but at the same time leaving enough bread crumbs for the observant viewer to figure out the mystery. It is a win for Vasan Bala post his first film and shows his ability to juggle in multiple genres.
Excitedly awaiting his next project and how his career progresses.
All-in-All, a great film that one can enjoy with their friends on the weekend.
