Black Sails (2014)
Goes nowhere
This show has little to no action and goes nowhere. Theres a big reveal in season 2 that the main character was gay at one point! Big whoop. Waste of time investing time in this show.
Hand of God (2014)
Great acting. Interesting premise.
Every episode from this season I felt like I had to watch the next one to see what happens and they don't do it in a teasing you and not answering any questions kind of way. Ron Perlman is simply a fantastic actor and he does a great job here with his character. There's not much of a happy go lucky funny TV show going on here it's dealing with some serious issues of Pernell trying to save his son PJ by doing things that he believes god wants him to do and wondering if it's really god or if he is delusional. Pernell is a judge that has a lot of influence and others are trying to use that influence to get things done but while he is on this quest he becomes hard to control because that is his main focus is on saving his son and everyone trying to control him while he tries to solve mysteries about his son and they are trying to get what they need done and the two conflict. Im really not sure what they are going to do in season 2 but hopefully they can come up with something interesting. If anything Ron Perlman I'm sure will give a fantastic performance.
Daredevil (2015)
Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 not so much
Season 1 of daredevil is some of the best superhero TV that I have ever seen. It's a dark action drama with a just a sprinkle of comedy in the form of foggy. Im a big fan of dark shows and movies but usually the superhero TV shows like flash and the arrow are more on the action or comedy side. Daredevil is a bad ass sticking it to the bad guys left and right and has a great villain in Wilson Fisk with great performances from all the actors. Season 2 changed some things that I'm not a fan of. Foggy has some lame lines and instead of being an awesome superhero they made daredevil go out of his way to prevent really hurting people that have killed others. Lame. Now I'm only 3 episodes in on season 2 but I already don't like it as much. Season 1 was a 10/10 and I wanted to watch each episode after the last one. Season 2 not so much.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Huge disappointment
Positives: Han Solo and Leia are in it. Decent acting. Cool use of new saber. Negatives: A lot. Same rehashed story, Cameo appearances from R2D2 and Luke (who doesn't even speak) plot problems, Using teenage main characters, antagonist is a big baby wanna-be and not very menacing, no explanation of how things got to be where they are at.
A droid is carrying classified information that needs to be given to the rebellion and needs teenagers help to do it. Also there's a death star that needs to be destroyed. Sound familiar? That's because it is and that's the premise for the force awakens. The movie starts off in the same way as the old films with no explanation of how they got back to being that way. The movie is also pretty quippy with the quips being at awkward moments. The antagonist I thought was going to be this dark menacing character but people talk down to him like hes on the same level as them and the undoing the mask should have been done when Han solo confronts him and not during the interrogation room. It made the Han confrontation less impactful. But then again he gets beat by Rey who has never wielded a saber in her life. The explanation for this is chewy shot him in the side but I still think this movie makes him look pretty weak and like anyone can beat him. I wish they had chosen characters that were a bit older instead of adolescent teens to play the big roles. i think my biggest problem was they could've done ANYTHING, 30 years later it could've been a whole new, different, interesting world. Instead it's the same story same set up same everything all over again. It didn't feel like a star wars sequel to me, it felt more like a spin off than anything. Oh and Luke skywalker? A 30 second cameo at the very end. Thanks Disney and JJ for the disappointment.
John Carter (2012)
Tries to be great but falls short
This movie starts out pretty decent but then becomes very very boring and full of characters that I just don't care about. The only character I like was the creature that was like a dog and following them around everywhere. Evidently with a big budget film like this one most of it went into special effects and not writing in character development they show a few scenes from John's past but nothing really substantial that hits home for me. The special effects I must say are good. When you think the movie is going to end and everyone live happily ever after with the conjured romance of two people who don't even know each other at all he gets transported back and 10 years later is able to trick them and getting a medallion back and then the end he transports back but doesn't show anything after that. Probably trying to set up a sequel. Too much budget into special effects and thinking they can James Cameron this thing and make lots of money. Especially with a director that has only directed cartoon films.
Saw III (2006)
Not as good as the first
This movie has some flashbacks and explains how the 1st movie was setup. Amanda brings in female doctor (Lynn) to help Jigsaw stay alive until the next guy (Jeff) gets through his game. A device is put on her to make her comply and is linked to Jigsaws heart monitor. The main character Jeff is trapped in jigsaws game encounters people that let his son die. The witness that ran, judge, and the killer himself. He tries to free 1st one but she froze, judge he saves but has to burn his sons things to get the key. Jeff taking his time through the ordeal even though he has limited time. This movie is more gruesome than the other two and is the last of what I consider the classic saw trilogy. Jigsaw dies at the end of the movie and you can pretty much not watch any of the others after this one. Ending was bitter sweet. Amanda betrays jigsaw and she doesn't want them to live and refuses to take off the devise and Jeff comes in and shoots her. It is revealed that unknown to Amanda (and the viewers) that Jeff and Lynn are husband and wife and that the man Lynn was with at the beginning of the movie was just some guy she was cheating on him with when the viewers assume it's her husband. Everyone dies at the end and jigsaw reveals in a tape that Jeff's little girl is trapped.
Saw IV (2007)
5.9 is an accurate rating
This film has a decent backstory on jigsaw, cool camera transition scenes, dims in comparison to jigsaw as the killer though. Jigsaw is what made this film series and now he is dead and can't help thinking you still want him to be alive. The films main character is Daniel Rigg a guy who wants to go around setting people up in traps the help Eric in his own game of jigsaws helper. The movie gives no reason why in the world he would do this other than he is obsessed with helping people and wanting to save them. Then why is he putting them in traps to save someone else? Why does he care about eric matthews so much? The movie doesn't say we are just supposed to not think I guess and just go along with it. The lawyer of jigsaws is part of his game as well and shows backstory on why jigsaw got so mad and became who he was after his pregnant wife was hurt by a druggie trying to get drugs from her clinic that she runs and bumped into her with the door and caused a miscarriage. He sets the guy in the trap (has to push his head through some knives) and he gets through it and comes after jigsaw and falls into a barbed wire cage. The guy would have to be a complete moron to fall for that. He just runs past john and jumps right in it. Yea right. I also kept thinking cant they have another kid? He tries to get victims to forgive others but he doesn't seem very forgiving himself. Seems like the saw franchise suffers what most other horror franchises do as well. It is revealed that one of the FBI agents that was part of the game is actually the new jigsaw and everyone else dies. They put dumb characters with no common sense and horrible lack of judgement into their films. It shows a lack of creativity and laziness when you do this and honestly is a pet peeve of mine but it's something that I have to ignore when I watch some horror movies.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994)
Bored to tears
I haven't watch a Freddy Krueger film in a longer time (over 10 years) and decided to watch this one. Not only have I never seen it before but on multiple websites it states it is one of the best of the series. If this is the best I don't think I would be able to see the worst this movie was good premise awful. The first ten minutes of the movie were great with a great premise. The actors from the other movies are shown making the movies and it's a movie within a movie. It started off great and then it just gets really boring with the female lead and you barely get to see Freddy throughout the movie and there's not much character to him at all. I guess they wanted to try something different but it was just an awful film.
Saw II (2005)
Good horror movie
This movie had a lot more character development on jigsaw. We find out the had cancer and tries to kill himself and survived. The main character's son is trapped in one of jigsaws game and is shown on the monitors and poison is going through them and the rest of the people in jigsaws game have all been in prison because of his dad who is a corrupt cop and planted evidence to obtain convictions. Amanda from the 1st one is in there with them. They are stupid. 1st guy at the start of the movie could have used his forearms to brace the Venus fly trap device. Pit of needles could have used the bat to dig for key to the antidote but instead Xavier thrown Amanda in there and she searches for it with her hands? Xavier figures out there are numbers on the back of their heads that they need possibly for a combo. He doesn't tell anyone you he just carries a knife and threatens them to turn around. Yea that is sure to go well. That ends up in a fight with one of the other characters and Xavier kills him and get the number off his head and once Xavier corners Amanda and the kid she tells him he still doesn't know his own to which he cuts it off his neck. Who does that? I know hes wobbling around and crazy but he did stupid stuff earlier too. There is a cool twist at the end of saw 2 where the cameras aren't a live feed and his son was in the room the jigsaw the whole time! Overall a pretty good film and better than I remember it. I love the twist at the end but not a fan of putting in some characters that areso stupid that it's hard to believe.
Full House (1987)
Love it!
I love this classic TV series. If you're looking for a good TV show with some good values thats funny and doesn't use the laugh track too much this show is great. I love all the characters and grew up watching and caring about them. This TV show can be watched and enjoyed by kids and adults. I remember watching this as a kid and really liking it but not understanding certain jokes or while the laugh track was rolling but as an adult I do now. Overall a great cast and TV show. There are serious moments in there that cause you to tear up and really care about what's going on and there are also times that are really funny and cause you to laugh out loud. Overall this show has got something for everyone to enjoy with all the different personalities.
Tomorrowland (2015)
Great premise but falls short
This film has a great cast and starts out with a great premise. Once the main character goes to a different land from touching the pin (as shown in the trailer) it got me hooked to keep watching it. That was about the peak of the film and goes flat and falls down from there. The ending was very weak and left me wondering if they had set it up to be a sequel which they didn't and didn't have plans to. Once certain plot points and turn of events are revealed it is a let down, perhaps due to the special effects and they great cast you feel you are going to expect great things from this movie as well but overall a pretty good movie with some great visual effects and characters but ultimately falls flat.
