Uncut Gems (2019)
Artsy doesn't mean good, and it seldom is.
This is much like the banana duct taped to an art gallery wall that quirky individuals are willing to pay thousands for. Not art. I can see why so many people have confused this for a good movie, it's so busy shouting at you from every angle it's hard not to be confused which is a neat trick considering the plot isn't hard to follow at all. Nothing about this movie was explicitly bad but nothing about it was great either. Adam Sandler gives a decent performance considering the shoddy script he was given and it's interesting seeing him play a role so far from his usual, past that this movie has nothing more to offer than a moderately boring waste of 2 hours. Obnoxious synth music plagues most scenes and when it doesn't multiple characters are constantly shouting over each other, a complete cluster **** is the best way to describe this movie. I did however gain one insight from this movie, prior to watching it i considered the 10 second fast forward on Netflix a redundant feature but it really was a god send to help me get through the last 30mins.
The 62nd Grammy Awards (2020)
Talk about pandering.
It's a shame musics no longer celebrated for musical talent. These days the grammys are nothing more than a popularity contest. What a joke.
Godfather of Harlem (2019)
Great show, great actors and a great story.
This show is very well done, with some fantastic performances and a compelling story. It's not the greatest show of the year, but it's definitely up there. Alot of people hang heavily on the rap music featured on it, and it's the one grievance i share. Every time it comes on it breaks the illusion of the time period and feels about as natural as the famous Starbucks cup from game of thrones, and im a fan of rap. It is however a small issue, but an issue that stops the show from being truly immersive.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Bunch of entitled losers.
So the show didn't end the way you or even i wanted. Welcome to the real world, life sucks and it doesn't end the way you want it too. I see alot of people apologizing to GRRM. Who worked on the show, informed the shows creators of how it ended and was just as responsible for said ending as any of the writers. Everyones acting like Danys descent into madness was a shock, once again not the shows fault, if you're too dense to follow the hints that have been dropped since season 2 that's hardly the shows fault, that's your own ignorance and the way YOU put a character on a pedestal. Frankly between the swarms of negative reviews and polls to recreate the season most of you appear to be nothing more than spoiled, lazy and entitled children.
As for the episode itself, it was far from the best, the ending did feel forced, but if thats how the creators choose to tell their story that's their right. Game of Thrones has been an amazing ride, waning somewhat as it aged but still strong the vast majority of the way through. I would still recommend watching it start to finish. Just don't throw a hissy if it doesn't go your way.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Why is everyone so shocked?
Dany snapping seems to have blown all your dense little minds, however it's been a possibility since the start and there's been ALOT of clues too it. Don't blame the show because you lot were oblivious to it because you blindly loved a character.
The episode was the best in a long time, everything was spot on and oldschool GOT. 10 stars to make up for all the crying fanboys/girls.
Paradise PD (2018)
What the actual @#$%
This is garbage it's almost as unintelligent as anyone who like this show must be. I'm all for shocking and in your face humor, if it's clever. But this is what would happen if the cast of "born this way" turned to comedy. Do yourselves a favor, skip this one, burn any copies you are gifted and send netflix hate mail for backing such a festering pile of trash.
Dark Tourist (2018)
What a joke.
The best documentaries don't drip with bias, obviously its often impossible to completely hide your bias but first and foremost they're supposed to be educational. All i learnt from this is the presenter is a liar. The show starts with the David Farrier expressing his love for the macabre and fascination with death which lead him to the desire to create "Dark Tourist". Immediately it's obvious that David is too sensitive to handle such a subject matter, in every scene, be it Fukushima's radioactive ghost towns or talking with doomsday preppers he has a mocking tone and is obviously offended by all of it. This show is more about David's political views than it is an educational look into the world of dark tourism. Made worse by the fact the scenes are obviously cut to cater to said views. Every scene where Farrier is interviewing the exorcists in Mexico is designed to make them look like morons, conversations are designed to look like they are free flowing and natural but are obviously cut and put into an order that most reflects the message Farrier is wanting to send. Take the green fleck that magically appears on the head exorcist then disappears constantly, the conversation hasn't just been cut to fit, its been chopped and changed to suit Farriers message. Whilst i personally agree Exorcists are redundant that should be a decision i come too based on what i view, not what's manipulated and forced down my throat. This show had alot of potential, but a bad choice in presenter has wasted it all. Don't take this as an accurate representation of anything, yet alone New Zealanders. We're not all this ignorant and close minded. I do give him kudos for getting out there and experiencing it all though, some of what he did takes balls, if only he was able to leave his obvious bias at the door.
Preacher (2016)
Dont listen to the entitled fanboys
This show (which is endorsed and adored by the creator of the graphic novel) is masterfully done. The only negative reviews i see are from butthurt fanboys who complain about how tame it is, and how a comic doesn't translate perfectly to TV. The acting is spot on as is everything else about this adaptation. I personally was very sceptical about alot of the changes, Tulip for instance being cast as a Ruth Negga undermines alot of the comic characters history, however she does a spectacular job capturing her essence and the changes to the character fit perfectly. The story is fun and fits well allowing the show to go on for more than the 4 episodes it would have taken to mimic the comic which i am thankful for, because i cant get enough. The show is still true to its roots with outrageous levels of violence and wacky characters and that won't appeal to everyone. But to mark the show down based solely on the fact it's not something it doesn't pretend to be is moronic. If you're not squeamish i would strongly recommend you add this to your watchlist. It's a wild ride you won't regret!
Riverdale (2017)
Shockingly bad.
This show is the product of everything that's wrong with society today. It's the brainchild of the entitled millennial complete with lackluster acting, contrived storylines, abundant factual inaccuracies. Picture Twilight if it was made by a group of horny 14 year olds and you have something that's nearly as bad as riverdale. Do yourself a favor, save your braincells and skip riverdale.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Absolute joke.
This show is terrible. There's no other way to describe it. It's the product of the stereotypical avacado loving millenial. The entire premise of the show revolves around a hard done by girl wanting to explain why she took her life and make those responsible aware of how horrible they are. In theory a great premise, one that could deliver a powerful and helpful message. However lack luster presentation and terrible acting ruin any positive the show could produce. The "victim" has a cold calculated way of talking, one that detracts from the struggles she apparently faces and makes her look as though she killed herself out of revenge, not misery. Which is further enforced by the main plot device. The casette tapes. Do yourself a favor, skip this show completely. This show will give you nothing more than a jaded, uneducated look into suicide. One that i personally find insulting to those who deal with these issues on a daily basis.
The Walking Dead (2010)
The Walking Angst
This show started out strong but gradually starts to lose its magic as it progresses. Until season 7 where it plummets off a cliff. The action and excitement that made the show is replaced by angst and monotony. The characters all live in a world where nothing but long winded sob stories are spoken, drawn out close ups of sad faces. I wish i could say something positive about season 7. But poor writing has ruined the show. The characters have spent 90% of the season in a world where nothing happens. What could have been achieved in one or two episodes has been dragged over 10. Characters that were once full of color and charm are now as dull and lifeless as the zombies that are seldom shown. I hope something can bring life back to the walking dead. But after this abysmal season I'd say its better off being buried.
