No Hard Feelings (2023)
Predictabley a sub par movie
With the trailer previews ,one knows what to except from this movie; A fun romantic comedy, that takes your mind off for a while.
There's nothing special in the plot line. It's the same old boy and girl, one timid, one exburant getting together, all be it for different reasons. With all the familar plot themes, viewer can kind of except/guess what's about to happen. The quirky comedy didn't exactly stick at times, some moments just falls off as soon as frame passes by. The main characters relationship timeline feels rushed and doesn't exactly makes logical sense at one point. Up until half way through, the movie had decent laughs and logical sense, and in an instant it all fell apart. It happens so fast, it's quite off putting(I'm quite sure everyone who watches this movie, could pin point the exact time frame of that particular moment). From then on, everything got rushedon. It's like ,we need wrap this up, and just get on with it. Whatever emotional element the movie had, just disappeared like magic.
Lady Chatterley's Lover (2022)
A Missed Opportunity.
It's a good movie and unfortunately not a memorable one. I feel like I watched an incomplete movie. What i mean is, in few moments of the film there were no triggers that led to the next scene. It feels like a bits of pieces stitched up together to make it whole. In more than few cases the camera work was bit off in narrating that particular scene, or, just completely off in framing actors within the frame. All in all there were too many missed opportunities from editing, filming, framing...as you go through the movie you notice these little things. It was off putting.
Going through the meat of it, the main actors did well with what they were provided...I guess. Their passion doesn't exactly feels raw and emotional, but, you root for them. For some reason, to show passion you need passionate sex scene(s), which is dumb, shallow, and almost naïve. Both the main characters didn't get a "the scene" scene. The scene where two people you root for, just talk. Spray out all of their vulnerabilities out in the open, in passionate manner. In fact all through the movie these both characters don't have that kind of scene. All of their talking scenes, feels trimmed and forced to make up the plot.
Coming to final 3rd, it didn't fit with the rest of the movie. It's like, yeah "we have to end this film, so, here it is". The final 3rd feels rushed and lacked whatever "passion" that was preceded up to that point. It just ended.
All in all, if felt like i watch a movie with big chunks of pieces missing. I watched an incomplete movie.
Detachment (2011)
For every student who hates and loves school.
It might sound like an advertised material, but, this is a movie, every teenager should be acquainted with.Every pitfalls that has been incorporated with the education system, both with the students, and, with their respective teachers, has been picked up, piled up and made it into a thought provoking movie.
The filmed stayed true through the entire movie, not deviating with any typical Hollywood mumbo jumbo. The only negative thing, i could think of is, that the movie didn't focus enough on a student's perspective towards the education he/she getting.
Oopiri (2016)
What were they going for?
After watching the original the intouchables, it's hard not to compare the movie with the original one.In the original movie, their main focus was the relationship between both main characters, in a way the entire movie evolved around them, and the movie was told form Driss perspective about Philippe's life. Philippe's heartbreak, laugh, rejuvenation, new profound view for life, through Driss. That was it.That's all that needed for the story.
Coming to the remade version. They included too much nonsense into the movie. Every main character has a backstory. There was no need for that. They prolonged the movie for more than 2 hours, just for the sake of prolonging it. The unnecessary romance between seenu and Keerthi, and a little too much of Prasad character, totally made the movie a regular old "telugu movie formula" cliché. Maybe the movie would be fine for the fresh viewer, who haven't watched the original version. Maybe, that was they were going for, or, they lost the entire plot. Both the main characters, Nagarjuna and karthi, did there best, but, that wasn't enough for the plot at hand. There wasn't anything special from both Tamannaah and Prakash Raj.
Well, all in all, if you haven't seen the original version(The Intouchables), i suggest you give that one a chance before watching the remake(Oopiri). In my personal view, The Intouchables did justice for both the movie, and to the real life story of an incredible friendship. All Oopiri did was, a glorification of the movie actors, in an attempt to make a buck as an investment process.
Loft (2008)
Too long in terms of run time, otherwise a decent movie. Spoilers ahead !!
The movie starts off on a high note in an attempt to take a hold of viewer attention, which it does. The negative side to that is, keeping viewer in that state is a lot harder job. i think that's where this movie went wrong. It's too long!
I don't know whether it's to keep integrity of the story, or out of respect to the screenplay, but, the director took a little too much time to establish a character attributes. At the same time took a great detail in not to give out the main crucial point of the plot. The motive of Luc Seynaeve, and eventual involvement of others is a little too thin. More over through out the movie the character Marnix Laureys is shown as a Fool, an imbecile, one who have no regards for social norms. There was only one instance where he was shown, as a loving husband. That's when his wife leaves him!! That side of him is not believable to a normal viewer. It's just thrown into to the story to provide him with a reason for joining into the Luc's plan.
Apart from two or three leaky sub plots from the respective character's, and the run time, it's a decent enough movie. Worth While too some extent. Not one you will remember when you think of Best Mystery movies.
